Has anyone been able to survive and beat the game without a White mage in his/her party? I have only been able to play with 2 warriors, White mage and Black mage. I'd like to play with 1 of each a little 1 war, 1 Red mage ( my favorite class), monk, and Thief. sometimes feel obligated to have one as without a Whm your chances of survival go out the window. i myself could barely make it to the second town with the Later group. and the monsters outside it owned me LOL. Any pointers or advice from tested theories greatly appriciated.

Well i tried it once without one and i had 2 warriors, 1 red mage and a thief and my red mage healed most of the time for me but as i got farther in the game it got to diffucult so i ended up using alot of potions and i ended up having to have like 99 potions in my inventory. Dont really have an advice other then telling you to make sure that you have a white mage in your party heh :monster:

It's not just this game...
In just about ANY game you need healing magic. There's times where potions lose usefulness, or get too damn expensive. Why one would try to beat this game without a white mage is beyond me... It would take FOREVER.

you're absolutely right, it took me over 60 hours to beat it without the mage.

I disagree. Granted, I LOVED Final I and played through it 3 straight times when I was on disability last year, but I was able to beat it with 3 Monks and a Red Mage. I also did it with 2 knights and 2 red mages. Monks make the game much easier, because they have REALLY low equipping costs and their attack values ramp up drastically after the class change. The trick to the game is getting to the class change as quickly as you can and with as low a level as possible so you can reap the added bonuses as you level up. :)

None of you have lived until you beat this game with 4 level 99 black wizards. I beat it with 4 black wizards, 4 white wizards, and 4 Knights all at level 99. I think it was hardest with the Knights and the black wizards.

I agree with captianbill47. It can be done without a White Mage, and Yes the trick is to get to the class change at as low of a level as possible.

I actually read a hardcore guide somewhere (I wish I could credit the guy who wrote it, but I have long forgotten) that says that every "Grown Up" class gains entirely better stats per level than their previous form, with the exception of the Black Wizard, who gains LESS strength per level than the Black Mage, but far superior in all other aspects (Black Wizards should Never Attack anyway), and the Red Wizard.

Because the Red Wizard gains the same stats per level as the Red Mage, it doesn't matter what level you "Grow Up" at. Everyone else is the sooner the better.

Using this philosophy, I killed off my other 3 characters (Fighter, Black Belt, Black Mage) in the first battle, and I played all the way through the first half of the game using only a Red Mage. I then performed the Class Change at Level 1 for the most benefitial stats possible.

In Short. No White Mage, and I still blew
Chaos
out of the water!

I've beaten it with a solo Black Wizard. :)

*I have! ive played Final Fantasy 1 many times and most of my party doesnt have a white mage,i chose the red mage for healing and attack parameters :)

*in my opinion white mages are a nuisance, they need healing after one hit from any enemy and they stink with attacks,so i dont use em :)

i like FF1 and i tryed something hard play the game the only white mages and ho better class
i did this out of bordem and i won the game (bet it)it was hard best thing in a party is ninja and black mage in a team every thing else can be anything else

I don't use magic hardly ever but I would have been screwed without a white mage. Theres no way I would be prepared to stock all those potions :wacky:

Oh lord, I can't imagine trying to beat the game without a White Mage. I'm sure it would be easy if you power leveled, but there were so many times in the game the White Mage saved my life it's untrue xD

If I were going to try without a White Mage, I'd choose two Red Mages, a Warrior and a Monk. I kinda see a Red Mage as half Black, half White, so in order to have a White Mage, I'd need two Red Mages, right?

Flawed, I guess. FFI isn't my speciality, but no one has suggested this yet.

The trick to beating the game at a low level without a white mage is using the healing staffs/healing helms in battle to heal up your party when you are fighting weak enemies in the final dungeon.

As long as you keep 99 potions in stock for the earlier dungeons you should be OK.
