I figured the games been out awhile and I was wondering has anyone captured a cool ass monster that's a once in a lifetime catch :D?

Share it here and explain how you captured him/her.

In my latest capture I caught a Gigantuar ((Jumbo Cactuar)).

This was a absolute fluke on my part, I was doing the Way stones in the Archylte Steppe the First time you visit there.

I managed to pull off a 5 star Victory since all it did was use 1000 needles the entire battle :/ ((lol only ones who died semi often was Serah/Cactuarina since their hp is around 1500-1700)) But when Noel launched him and I finished him off with Firaga low and behold his crystal dropped and I spat out my drink XD.

I haven't used him in battle yet since he's a Syn.

I know this monster crystal almost ALWAYS drops but really who doesn't love having a Giant Cactuar as a partner! ((Brings back memories of spamming the Jumbo Cactuar GF in Final Fantasy VIII))

yh i got that huge thing, like u it was a mistake, i even managed to get it on camera XD i didn't 5 star it :/

i want to know if you can capture the huge elephant thing... that would be soooo awesome XD

I'm pretty sure they'll most likely be the same class but if not hey least we get a verity of em.

As for the Giant Turtle Elephant thing I'm not sure I think it may be a tad too big to be a actual party member unless it has a baby and you take it since you killed the mommy lol

XD So many weird things to try and capture

this is a quote from my post in my little gil making guide

Well thats a bit low, I know when I fight him about 50% hp he starts dishing out 2999+ damage stabs and at 20-15% he dishes out 9999 HP damage just be sure to keep Phoenix Downs on you at least 30 or so also the tonberry is worth the trouble cause it can learn the +35% Atk and +35% Mag Skill's which can bolster up your monsters if you infuse him ((Thanks to him my Gold Chocobo has around 1300 Atk))

Also my Noel is at 7000+ HP and Serah is at 4500 or so.

I use Com/Com/Com(Gold Choco) since staggering him is pointless since it takes too long

It doesn't take me long to kill it and it IS worth the effort since the +35% Atk+Mag helps make your main monsters uber :D

As long as you focus with Com/Com/Com and when low on HP switch to Med/Med/Med when your down to like 3k hp you should be able to kill him

Hi,

First time post!

Potential Spoilers await! ?

I've caught a load of different monsters now. It’s great post game because you can buy all of the different grades of monster materials in the Chocolina posts, so with a bit of gill farming you can test lots of different monsters to see how they cope. I've found that the Chocobos make great partners. The Silver Chocobo is my favourite Sentinel; it has great hp and also has the passive ability of increasing rare drops. Depending on your stats, getting 5 star ratings in the game might require you to play a bit more hard core with tri disaster and the three comando paradigms, but if you have both of the chaos crystal weapons and full stats, you should be good to get a 5 star rating for most fights with ravager, comando, and sentinel. So the chocobo is great for farming.

The blue chocobo is great for a ravage too, but I prefer the cloud burst monster that can be found on Archylte Steppe. Its synchronisation heals wound damage and buffs the party, while its also an amazing ravager with over 1000 magic attack stats :)

I was also using the Tonberry as a Comando partner for a long time because it has great attack strength, but I had to catch the Don Tonberry for an Achievement so I levelled it up and I now use that one. However, when I was levelling both up I went for the commando bonus boosts. When you fight with Tonberries, they only do one attack per turn. I don’t know if increasing their ATB segments would alter that but it’s something to keep in mind.
I have also found that the Yakashini is a great Synergist. The passive abilities with this monster are: First strike which gives the monster a full ATP at the start of the battle, useless when you get a preemptive strike, but useful for boss monsters when you want to start with the Premediation paradigm! (That’s Saboteur, Sentinel, and Synergist) The other two passive abilities are HP: +25% and Defence maintenance. First is self-explanatory, but defence maintenance increases the duration of buffs which is useful for long winded battles like the alternate paradox scope battles with Caius and the long but fairly easy battle with Raspatil.
I have never paid attention to the Saboteur monsters because I have always had my paradigms set up to keep the three most required monsters, which in my opinion are Commando, Ravager and Synergist. So I cant offer any advice there.
A good early monster to capture is the Spiranthes from Yachas Massif 010 AF. It is not the best medic monster in the game, but it will be good enough for that part of the games progression. The reason I’m advising it is for the passive abilities: Item Collector, and Improved Raise. Increasing the HP restored by Raise, and increasing the % of rare drops early doors can lead to a profitable future! You will find yourself needing to upgrade eventually, and by that point you should look for the Silver Chocobo!

Heres a good trick though. When you get into a battle, push right bumper button for xbox 360 (dont know the ps3 button) and it pulls up the beastiary for the monster/s you are currently fighting. It tells you in the bottom right if the creature can be captured or not. Unfortunately, the Long Qui (giant turtle) on Archylte Steppe can not be tamed although I would love to repeat that battle with a Long Qui of my own! :(
PS. The DLC to fight Lightning lets you capture both Lightning and Amodar to fight alongside you as monsters, although it is quite hard to capture them.

So far only a Behemoth and a Red Chocobo.

The Behemoth has a beautiful blue flower on his head, just
ravishing

I just caught Gigantar and I'm wondering if anyone has really invested in leveling it up? It gets some fairly good buffs right away but sadly has that passive ability that lowers magic damage dealt. Could be awesome in a Syn/Syn/Sen or Syn/Syn/Syn set up?! Does anyone use this beast of a monster?

Nah- I don't use any of the penalty ones, they are worthless.

I keep Syns and Sabs just in case an enemy gives me problems, but Serah and Noel are usually sufficient as Syns and Sabs. The coolest monster I've captured so far is just a Gigantuar. :sad3: And a Neochu. :britt:

Twilight Odin has to be the coolest looking capture just because you can't summon in this game and it's kind of like having an eidolon, i mostly use don tonberry (perpetual poison is annoying though :p) and all of the chocobos (took a while to gain them all) Gigantuar is a once only capture so once the crystal is gone you cannot gain him again.
BTW i found something out purely by accident, in academia 4XX af if you go into the control room with Hope and Alyssa throm mog at the base of the Cocoon hologram if you hit the right spot you will gain a silver chocobo crystal, he is the best chocobo to race with too if you max his stats he is unbeatable nearly :)

My best capture so far was the Munchkin Boss. I've only been playing for about 6 hours though, so I expect better captures. Oh, and a Green Chocobo. It's not much, but it gets me by. :)

Com - I think my best capture was the Golden Chocobo, can be found in the Dying World using the mog throw and along with the silver Chocobo is the best for the Chocobo races.

Med - I found that my best monster capture for the med role was the Flanitor, superb healer and its fearl ability(hyper healing) just makes him even better.

Rav - Easily one of the best ravangers in the game is the blue Chocobo, I do recommended this one if you still playing the game.

Syn - Yakshinsi(sp?) is my favourite synergist and one of the best if not the best in the game, my opinion.

Sab and Sen - Can't remember what monster I used for the Sab role but I used a Pulse Gladiator as my Sentenial.

For some reason last night I had a sudden urge to re play my XIII-2 to try and catch Don Tonberry, and I wandered the ruins till one popped up ((took 15 mins T_T)) and on my first attempt I managed to capture the little bugger!

Hes not too bad but I feel I need to catch a tonberry to beef up his atk power
