Covers - Good and Bad.

Some of the ones which spring to mind are:

Hendrix's cover of Bob Dylan's All Along the Watchtower is superb. On some level I prefer Hendrix's version, but Bob Dylan's is still awesome.

Muse's cover of Feeling Good is another great song.

Patti Smith did a really good cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit too. Completely differant to the original but still superb.

Gary Jules' and Michael Andrews' cover of Mad world (Originally by Tears for Fears). It's a great interpretation. Completely different from the original and just great really.

and of course Placebo's cover of Running up that hill is up there. Better than the original.

"Hold It Against Me" - Britney Spears cover by Sam Tsui

I think this cover was awesome! It gave the song a different feel. More loving and meaningful.

Britney's original had a nice feel about it too but it also had a more sexual feel due to the beat.

Both versions are awesome in their own way but I do still prefer Britneys'. XD

My favourite covers are any of the cover artwork of Dope, Breaking Benjamin and Sonic Syndicates albums. I dont know why I like them, There is just something about them that draws me in. :D

Id have to say my favrorite cover is bad romance by outline in colour mainly because of its sound(screamo parts are easy to understand) and add a unique twist to the song

and another song cover i like is still fly by the devil wears prada because its simply amazing and well done
my final favorite cover is paramores version of use somebody (does it really need explaining its paramore) its amazing

Man, I can't believe I forgot to mention Blind Guardian the last time I was in here...especially given how much I go on about them.

They do some really amazing covers, one of which just came out last year:

And to list their other good ones:

(Hooray for Pennywise cosplay!)

Oh, I know a couple off the top of my head that I thought were very good.

I'm not a Manson fan, but I think they did an awesome job on this Eurithmics cover. This was the first Manson song I heard and thought they'd be awesome, but it was downhill after that.

Another deal where I'm not big on White Lion, but this version rocks so much more than Golden Earring's version. The Golden Earring version is just too boring for my taste. Excellent cover.

I really loved Adam Lambert's cover of Tears for Fears' "Mad World". It was simply brilliant.

And a few others that I like are the following

Seperate Ways(Journey) - A Skylit Drive
Notorious Thugs(BIG) - Scary Kids Scaring Kids
Jumper(Third Eye Blind) - Bedlight For Blue Eyes
Dream On(Aerosmith) - Blessthefall

FYI, those all were featured on the "Punk Goes..." complication albums. They're all fabulous :3.

My personal favorites are:

Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding (Elton John) covered by Dream Theater. They only did it live but it was fucking amazing.

Testaments cover of Sails of Charon by The Scorpions.

I think someone earlier mentioned I Will Survive by CAKE. I love that one too. I can't think of the original singer.

And Trivium's cover of Master of Puppets. I actually like it more than the original.

The Beatles' cover of Twist and Shout is fucking brilliant. John's voice is fantastic and he really gave it his all. I especially like how it's a bit flawed in some parts. It's not perfect, and I adore that. Makes me hate today's edited music even more, but that's a whole other conversation.

My picks

Here is a few I enjoy.

1)Metallica:Stone Cold Crazy-originally by Queen
2)Metallica:The Wait-originally by Killing Joke
3)Fear Factory:Enter Sandman-originally by Metallica
4)Megadeth:School's Out-originally by Alice Cooper
5)Children of Bodom:Hit Oops I Did It Again-originally by Brittany Spears(sooo hilarious)
6)Phish:All Along The Watchtower-originally by Bob Dylan

Breaking Benjamin's Cover of Who wants to live forever of Queen, definitely has to be one of them for me, I don't favor pop covers a lot its usually only Rock songs that have the best covers.

White Rabbit by Emiliana Torrini
originally by Jefferson Airplane, she has a great voice and made this song fresh and new, but I still love the original also. Maybe its just my love for Sucker Punch xD As well as her voice being amazing!

Heart covering Led Zeppelins Rock and Roll
, her voice is perfect for this song and this has to be one of my favorite Led songs I also love Heart!

Maria Aragon covering Born this Way by Lady Gaga, this girl can sing! And she makes the song for everyone, in case you don't like Dance stuff.

My favorite cover has to be Death's rendition of Painkiller by Judas Priest.

Death - Painkiller

Chuck Schuldiner absolutely makes this track his own by providing the perfect example of a great cover. It shows respect to the artist it came from, but added its own personal flair to the song that makes it special. (This in case being the different vocal delivery and the two fantastic new solos peformed by Chuck.)

RIP \m/

Johnny Cash's covers of Personal Jesus, Hurt and Solitary Man were phenomenal. Way better than any of the originals, except perhaps Solitary Man.

My favorite cover has to be Death's rendition of Painkiller by Judas Priest.

Couldn't agree more, this cover was awesome.

Also Graveworm's cover of 'Losing My Religion' was pretty damn excellent.

Covers of Songs you love - Done Good or Bad?

Pretty sure no thread exists like this.

Okay, ever fell in love with a song and then had some newer band cover it? Well post the two songs here and tell whether the newer cover of it is good or just major crap.

POSTING EXAMPLE:
- You should post the original song first, tell why you love it(or hate it)
- Newer cover after with short description of why you like or hate the cover

To get this started... my pick is.....

Foo Fighters - My Hero
Amazing song, simply perfect. Not much more to say other then epic. I don't care what anyone says... there's times when this song could make me cry.

My Hero - Covered by Paramore :wtf:
Now, I like Paramore and everything but seriously... you don't mess with a classic. If you're gonna cover it you can't change it as if the original isn't good enough. My god, show some respect and do it like it's supposed to be done. As far as I know, they only covered it as a slow acoustic version... which shouldn't have been the way they did this song... ever.

Her vocals are okay, but why so god damn slow, for crying out loud :gonk:

Classics like "My Hero" should NEVER EVER be covered.

Anymore?

:hmmm: I know of two covers I like better than the originals:

Mad World - Tears for Fears

This is the Original Mad World song, the reasons I don't like it is because it seems too upbeat for what it is about, the music is too bouncy and it just doesn't seem... sad or emotional enough.. but perhaps that's the point? :P

Mad World - Gary Jules

Ok so everyone's probably heard this song from Donnie Darko. I like this one better than the original because the pace of the music actually suits the song better and overall it just has a better sound than the original.

~*~

Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd

I actually don't mind this song, I enjoy listening to it but it is a little slow... which kind of contradicts my reasons regarding the songs above seeing as comfortably numb is probably a song that should be sung slowly but I feel that the Cover made it sound better with their fast pace.

Comfortably Numb - Scissor Sisters

Not really sure why I like it better, the fast pace seems to suit it more, I like the pitch of the singers voice and I think it makes this song sound a little more quirky :)

~*~

and there we have it <3

Since there is already a thread on song covers.

-Threads Merged-

I also changed the title to include bad covers. I figured that people would tend to discuss them together, so it makes sense to have it all in a single thread.
