Playstation Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled

This was my favourite multiplayer game back when I was a kid.

I played it with my dad, my granda, a family friend / babysitter, my friends... So many memories.

I am extremely happy that this is now being remade (and revamped). It looks like they might be adding some new features to it (such as customisable cars?) so that is also brilliant.

I just hope that unlocking most of the characters isn't going to be a pain. I relied on cheat codes to unlock characters like Penta the Penguin... I don't think I was good enough to unlock him organically.... I might have to be this time around!

Looking forward to this one! I've been saying since the Crash trilogy came back out that I'd love to see this next with online racing so...yus :).

@Dionysos - I imagine the game will be made easier than the original. Games are normally easier these days *smokes grandad pipe*.

So this has been out for a couple of weeks now. What is people's opinion?

I got it pre-ordered so have been playing it since release. Managed to clear all the trophies and Oxide in Adventure Mode within 4 hours. Only cleared all the Relics and CTR challenges yesterday as the Nitro Fueled GP has been taking up most of my time. All that is left of Adventure Mode is get every Relic at least Gold and then beat Oxide again.

The game is visually stunning and gameplay stays very true to the original classic. The amount of customisation options is really neat even if they are just cosmetic changes. The inclusion of Crash Nitro Kart tracks and characters is also pretty awesome even though I never actually played the original CNK on the PS2. My only real issue with the game is that it takes far too long to unlock stuff in the Pitstop (the games online store) as the amount of Wumpa Coins (the games currency) the game gives out is pretty low. Oh and im pretty sure they've made getting to certain short-cuts much harder haha.

I'm really enjoying the online multiplayer at the moment too. Much like the Wumpa Coins, accumulating Nitro Points is still quite grindy, however it's broken up into challenges so doesn't feel as bad.

Curious, what difficulty have you been playing it on? I consider myself relatively good at the original, yet I feel playing Adventure Mode on Hard that the AI is ruthless to the point where it just feels broken - There are times I can't keep up with them even with using a power boost & Uka Mask combined!

I also find that the mechanics just feel a little off, in the original in Hot Air Skyway I'd easily be able to drift around the whirly bit at the start, yet on this version I always end up sliding to the side on my drift and the only way to counter act that is to jump, hold break and turn in mid air just to counter-act it - Which simply doesn't feel natural.

I also find I am clipping on invisible map textures A LOT. Like in the shortcut in Sewer Speedway, I could make that jump every time in the original, yet here I even get enough height but still end up crashing and falling.

I like the games content, it's bursting with modes and tasks and playin online is fun with my friend - Though Not having the ability to use Splitscreen online is a wasted opportunity in my eye. I like the Event that is currently happening and getting the points for unlocks - Though, I feel that the lack ofWumpa Coins for playing Offline is becoming a pain. Overall I like the presentation but sadly the core mechanics themselves just leave me frustrated.

To be honest I just wanted to get through the game to unlock shit so I blasted through it on Easy. Easy and Medium are more intune with the original but yes completely agree on Hard Mode. It's brutal! I will play through it on Hard for the trophy sometime but right now im ok on Easy/Medium.

I've been having the same trouble with some maps. Especially Oxide Station. There is a bit with a turning that I go completely off the map... even though I am clearly on the track and no where near the edge to even fall off. I've had alot of trouble with the Sewer Speedway shortcut too. Sometimes its been the opposite for me though. I'd clearly not have enough air to make the jump, crash into the bottom bit of the opening, yet the game boosts me up through it hahaha. Crazy shit. It definitely is harder to pull off than the original but I think I've nailed how to do it now. The same goes for many of the shortcuts.

The game isn't 100% perfect, and they are updating stuff bits as time goes on, but cannot deny the amount of fun im having. Really enjoying playing these tracks again, getting to know the CNK tracks (and being furious at them) and racing online against players off Discord. Even getting a small crew up together to co-op clearing certain GP Challenges has been fun.

Just near to unlocking the Tawna Sticker and then her Motorsport skin at the very end then I'll be done with the Gold Tier prizes. Waiting for Isabella's set to pop back up in the Pit Stop to finish off my collection of new racers, then I'll start getting the GP-exclusive skins, wheels, decals and stickers in that order.

Now that issue 3 of the magazine is out there, I do hope to grab a copy of this game so I can race you all!

This has always been my absolute favourite racing game (though I've never been a fan of the genre in general) so I can't wait to see how they've remade it. It looks incredibly clean and aesthetically outstanding.

You will not be disappointed. Much like the Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy, the original game is all there intact but made insanely more gorgeous. I've been going around some of the tracks to find all of the little animations (many being odes' to the past platformer games) they have included in the background. Things like in the distance on the Papu Papu's Pyramid track, you can find one of those horrible venus-fly traps acting as a teacher to a class of mini-plants (and a chicken) complete with chalk board diagram... or those native's from Crash 1 doing a dance around a cook-pot with a chicken inside... on the Crash Cove track there is lots of out-to-sea shenanigans that remind me of Coco's sea levels from Crash 3 to giggle at and much more.

The current GP for the online multiplayer is ending really soon (4 days from the time of this post) but the next one, The Back N. Time GP, should start sometime soon after. This will add lots of additional content much like the current one (Nitro Tour GP) has done.

The Nitro Tour Gran Prix has ended and the next one starts in 3 days. Wow. I'd though we'd get given a little more time in between GP's but im ok with it. Quite excited to see things get changed up!

Only details so far are in the image below. The new character skins and kart sets look great and im really excited to try the new track. Seems like they've included some new challenges for us to gain Nitro with aswell.

I've bought the game, faithful to the PS1 version, I got a bit surprised by the difficulty, in normal mode in adventure even the first tracks are already hard to win, you get bombed and missiled often and even when doing a good run they are doing even better.

Activison have updated their CTR:NF blog with a lot more detail regarding the upcoming GP and it's new content, plus confirming other characters such as N.Brio and Nina Cortex will appear in future GP's.

Also confirmed is a micro-transaction service. It's dissapointing to a point but I think I'm ok with it. They aren't changing anything about the current way of gaining coins in-game, just adding the option to buy additional coins to supplement those earned.

I can't wait to play the baby dinosaur.

And I'm also absolutely delighted about the N. Brio reveal. It always seemed odd to me that CTR would miss out such an important character from the franchise. I'm glad they are finally rectifying this.

I'm considering nabbing this on my birthday. Hopefully it will have gone down in price by then since once the main single player mode is done I'll probably stop playing it, knowing me. Unless someone calls me up for an online match ;) ;).

A new trailer and a new gameplay has been released recently featuring a new Grand Prix. Here are the new trailers of Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled. Enjoy!

I now have this game and I think we should definitely arrange some races at some point.

When are people likely to be free?

I’m really enjoying it. Like others in this thread, the game can be very brutal at times. I've completed the main campaign on normal difficult, but I'm going to struggle doing all of the relics and CTR challenges.

And I get absolutely owned online most of the time, so I'm finding it really difficult to earn enough coins to unlock things in the pit stop!

I wondered if there were any legitimate ways to unlock Penta Penguin without cheat codes. I tried to unlock him with the codes and the game told me my trophies were now disabled and that I couldn’t gain Nitro Points anymore… I’d rather avoid that! :argor:
I also checked my characters and he wasn't there after I typed in the code, so maybe I used the wrong one.

I'm totally down with racing. Even better if we manage to get 8 players for a full lobby which I think we may be able too.

The Purple CTR challenges (the crystal grab levels) seem to be a nightmare at first but I managed to do most within a few trys. Once you get your route down its just a case of speeding up to make it within the time. Only one really took more than a few attempts. As for the regular CTR challenges (CTR letter races) most are ok and can be spotted within the first lap ready to get picked up on the second or third laps. Admittedly did have to look up the locations for a letter or 2 for a few tracks as those were really well hidden.

Online racing is brutal! Some seriously good players out there. For Wumpa Coin earning the best thing to do is have a private lobby with a friend or 2. There is a x5 daily bonus active for 30mins of racing time (no loading screens or lobby time, just time spent on the track) and a further x2 bonus active all day at the weekends. These bonus stack so for those 30mins per day becomes a x10 bonus before reverting to a x2. Any other times you may aswell play Local Arcade as the rates become standard and you'll more likely get the full wack for placing 1st instead of the rubbish rates 4th and below get online.

For example a popular go-to track to 'farm' coins is the CNK track Android Ally. The standard rate is 68 WC for 1st. At weekends it is 136 WC. During daily bonus it is 340 WC or stacked with weekend bonus is 680 WC. I've gotten good enough that I can get about 8 races in during the weekend daily bonus time, netting me 5440 WC. During the week its hardly worth much effort outside of the daily bonus time so I tend to use that time to collect Nitro for the GP or do Adventure Mode/Time Trial stuff instead and then use the weekends as my Wumpa Coin farming race days.

There is no way to get Penta 'legit'. Like in the original game he is only unlockable (aswell as the White paint job and Penta sticker) via cheat code. As a throwback it is the same cheat code as in the original game! Good news is that the Penta cheat is the only cheat that won't disable trophies or rewards so it is perfectly safe to do so. So yeah if you have been disabling stuff you definitely have been using the wrong code :XD:.

The correct Penta codes are these I believe:
PS4: Hold down L1+R1 and press Down, Right, Triangle, Down, Left, Triangle, Up
XBO: Hold down RB+LB and press Down, Right, Y, Down, Left, Y, Up
Switch: Hold down L+R and press Down, Right, X, Down, Left, X, Up

Yesterday I finally managed to turn all my Sapphire relics into the gold varient (even picked up a few Platinum!) and get my 101%, Gold Relic paint and Hot Rod Nitros Oxide skin. I am still a long way off besting N. Tropy and Oxide Time Trials or even getting all Platinum Relics though.

I'm now the proud owner of a Penta Penguin! He used to be my main in the original game, so I'm delighted to have him back.

I'll make a note of that advice about how best to gather Nitro and coins. That'll be really useful since I haven't been earning as much as I'd like to.
