Jeez A sillouhete of a new pokemon from generation V has been revealed. Ummm ok generation V but ya like Arceus created almost every pokemon. Will generation V tell us who created Arceus? I thought he was GOD! Plus according to the history of pokemon It says that Arceus was born from an egg of light. Like 5th generation is gonna be so OFF. So what do you guys think about this? I think its shocking really. I think 5th generation will give more pokemon who have only 1 stage of evolution another stage. For example Pinsir, Far fetchd, Smeargle and all that. But The new legends will be really confusing. They have to all link to Arceus or the story wont make sense. Plus Arceus is GOD and Giratina is already the devil so what more will there be> Check it out here http://serebii.net/generation5/ :ffs:

I'm actually pretty excited about the prospect of a new generation of Pokémon, tbh. There are so many pokémon that could use evolutions or pre-evolutions. Granted, Arceus is the creator of them all (supposedly) but that doesn't mean that there can't be pokémon we haven't met yet. I find it rather exciting and have known they were going to make a 5th gen for a while.

There's some rumours floating around that Jynx will get an evolution to match Magmar and Electabuzz and that the likes of Miltank and Smeargle will get pre-evolutions.

I love Pokémon and until the craze dies out in Japan (which it doesn't look like that's going to happen any time soon), they will keep making games. Mark found an article stating that the 5th gen game might even be released later this year. I don't have the link anymore....

But overall, I can't wait. I'm such a pokénerd. The more pokémon there is for me to catch and raise, the better in my opinion. :)

After you take away the dual versions, the third versions, and the fourth/fifth ten-years-later versions, you're left with FOUR unique games...out of 17. (And judging from the established pattern, it'll be 5 / 19 by the end of this year, and 5 / 22 by the end of this generation.)

And this will bring forth another 150 anime episodes, 2-4 movies, 2-4 TCG card sets, and countless books, toys, Burger King meals, and lord-knows-what. Hooray for capitalism!

I'm not at all bother TBH. I do like them, but the games are tedious and really heart to beat 100%

I'm not looking forward to this. Each generation of Pokemon has been getting more poorly designed, broken (the 4th gen is horribly unbalanced with competetive battling, in my opinion), and just plain crap. The third generation was mediocre, the fourth was absolutely abysmal - I mean, look at how many legendaries its got! And all these crappy alternate forms, as well - and now we've got even more coming.

That silhouette looks more like a Digimon (maybe a mutated Renamon?) than a Pokemon. I expect we're just going to get more pre-evolutions and evolutions to Pokemon that don't need them, as well as a crapload of legendaries and some awful-looking new Pokemon. Competetive battling will be destroyed even further, and about the only thing that will remain good is the gameplay - which hasn't changed significantly at all since it started. I adore Pokemon, but this is pushing it...

...I can't wait to see how they out-do Arceus, though. The God of all Pokemon. Good luck with that. The Devil of all Pokemon, perhaps? Or the four Pokemon the Apocalypse?

No doubt the 5th generation will bring in a new anime series with Ash and Brock - and for some reason another new female heroine to replace Dawn. But then again it's the games I'm more focused about not the anime. What they will do with the 5th generation games is sadly, predictable.

Some new cute starter Pokemon (fire, grass and water types), some new evolved or devolved forms of existing Pokemon that are not needed at all, some new Pokemon with plain and unimpressive designs. Look at Giratina - I hated that design and I'm not enthusiastic about the next generation of legendary Pokemon due to this reason.

I do wish they try and make a 3D Pokemon DS game. I don't know - the other "proper" Pokemon games have been so similar and it's samey if it is so conservative all the time.

I've always been a Digimon fan over Pokemon. Too bad Digimon just isn't the same as it was in terms of popularity. >_>

I'm not looking forward to this. Each generation of Pokemon has been getting more poorly designed
I'd have to disagree with this. I think the Fourth Generation was a huge step up from the garbage that was gen 3 in everything other than the legendary overhaul.

Anyway, the talk of a fifth gen is old. I'm pretty sure they've been hinting at it for a long time coming. In fact, it should be kind of obvious. There's no way they'd leave game production off at a remake of a previous generation. That's just the bridge to the new batch, which will continue to come so long as Pokemon is popular and profitable. Last I checked, it's still going strong in either of those categories.

Let the games continue.

It's some sort of walking tree frog with Sonic the Hedgehog on it's head!

Suddenly the conspiracy all makes sense... T.T

It looks kinda like Sonic with boobs and a mullet, if you use your imagination.

It looks like an evolution form of Lucario :hmmm:

I'm not totally bothered if they bring out a 5th generation of pokemon or not, chances are it's slowly dying and probably will be the last generation in series before it dies out, it's certainly a dying series in EU. Sales will peak when they release new games but then the hype dies down until the next "main" game arrives. They'll find something else to replace it eventually.

I have to agree with you, Mercurial. Pokémon is pretty much dead where I live as well. Eight years ago everyone had to have a game. Now that the fourth generation is out, people have lost interest in the games. The creatures keep getting more complex and gaudy (ever hear Kricketune's cry?) and they really overdo things. Such as, making 2D sprites but a 3D overworld in the fourth generation.

Well yeah I know Arceus is God but like whats better than GOD? I want to see what legends they can come up with now. Another trio etc etc. Also this new pokemon does look like an evolved Lucario Ryan :mokken: So yeah what could the legends be like? 4 pokemon of the apocalypse is pretty cool.

I have to disagree with Pokémon dying out. Where I live, it's still massive. People take their DS' on the trains and battle each other or trade. It's everywhere I look around here. And HeartGold/SoulSilver has already been pre-ordered something chronic.

As I said before and as Highwind pointed out too, so long as Pokémon is popular and sells, the series will go on. The series is MASSIVE in Japan. It's a phenomenom. and whilst it stays as big over there as it is atm... we'll continue to get the games.

I personally, cannot wait to see what they come up with.

So long as it's better than Bidoof...

Pokemon will never die tbh. Its really popular and Im still very interested in it. I know a few friends who have lost their love for pokemon and I pity them. Omg Adri why do you still like that? Cod is better. My response: I still like pokemon better than COD. So yeah ill be a fan for a long time but its not fun that some of my friends gave up already. So plz Satoshi Tajirri make the 5th gen awesome!!!

It will disappear, it's reliant largely on the Japanese and the Japanese gaming market has gone down the shit hole in general since the release of Diamond/Pearl. It may not die soon, but it'll happen. Compare it to 8 years ago when Pokemon was the rage, everyone watched it on TV, everyone went to the cinemas to see the movies, bought the cards, the toys, books and the games. Other than the games nearly all of that has completely disappeared. Ever since Red/Blue, with the exception of Ruby/Sapphire there has been less and less sales even though the amount of handhelds have increased.

If it weren't for the fact the franchise is owned by Nintendo I would bet it to have disappeared already. Kids these days want shiny top notch graphics or Call of Duty, although it doesn't help that the current generation doesn't hold a candle to the old first generation.

The first image of a new fifth generation Pokémon seems to have appeared on the internet.

Scans on fan site Serebii appear to reveal not one, but two new Pokémon set to appear in the next handheld game.

The first Monster is supposedly called 'Zorua' and is a dark-type Pokémon while the other is 'Zoroark', an evolution of Zorua.

The pair's existence means we're now up to a whopping 495 Pokémon. Catching 'em all used to be easier in our day...

If they don't come up with considerably better than that THING, I shall certainly not be playing another Pokemon game after HeartGold and SoulSilver. As if we needed any more bloody foxes...

Pokémon's going nowhere. Look at the response Pokémon Platinum got - Pokémon Platinum sold 1 million copies in its first two days on the Japanese market.[108] By December 2008, Platinum had sold nearly 2.2 million units, making it Japan's best-selling DS game and second-best-selling game overall for 2008.

As long as they continue to sell, they're not going anywhere.

I'm actually looking forward to Generation V. Nothing can be worse than Bidoof, so I'm excited to see what they can come up with. Apparently gameplay changes are being planned, so in my opinion, Pokémon will be around for at least another 5-6 years. People have been saying Pokémon will die each time a new generation is announced, and each time they've been proven wrong.

As Mark pointed out, Platinum was massive when it came out and it's still pulling in sales. It might not be as popular as Final Fantasy nor it might not have sold as many copies as earlier pokémon games... but let's look at it this way.

The other Final Fantasy games don't sell as many copies as FFVII but is Final Fantasy dying out? Is it hell. So why does a decline in numbers since the first game for Pokémon automatically mean it's going to die out? If that's just your opinion, then fine. But it's not hard facts.

And this is about HeartGold/SoulSilver sales.

In Japan, the games sold 1,480,980 units within the first two days of release, topping the Japanese sales chart that week.[17] Within two weeks, the games had sold a combined total of over two million units.[18] As of December 18, 2009, the games have sold over 3,228,000 copies.[19]
Making that more copies than Platinum... Now just think how many more copies that is going to sell once it hits British and American shores.

Tbh, imo, I think Pokémon is only just getting started.

OH! And I'm pretty sure Pokémon has more sales than FF... but that could just be me. :monster:

And those new pokémon look pretty cool. I can imagine them being Fire/Dark type like Houdour and Houndoom. o_O

Also looking at sales figures -

  • Pokémon Red, Blue, and Green (20.68 million approximately: 10.23 million in Japan,[46] 9.85 million in US,[19] 600,000 in UK)[37]
    • Pokémon Red (4.83 million in US,[19] 300,000 in UK)[37]
    • Pokémon Blue (5.02 million in US,[19] 300,000 in UK)[37]
  • Pokémon Gold and Silver (15.2 million approximately: 7.6 million in US,[19] over 7 million in Japan,[76] 600,000 in UK)[37]
    • Pokémon Gold (7.45 million approximately: 3.75 million in US,[19] 3.4 million in Japan,[46] 300,000 in UK)[37]
    • Pokémon Silver (7.66 million approximately: 3.85 million in US,[19] 3.51 million in Japan,[46] 300,000 in UK)[37]
  • Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire (13 million)[79]
  • Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen (11.82 million)[72]
  • Pokémon Diamond and Pearl (17.39 million)[70]
  • Pokémon Platinum (6.39 million)[70]
  • Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver (3.74 million)[5]
I think this shows Pokémon is still as commercially viable as it has ever been. Generation IV has outsold Generation II and III. Just because Pokémon isn't as omni-present as it once was, doesn't mean it's fading in popularity or going away.

I can see Generation V being just as popular and successful as the other games. If Diamond, Pearl and Platinum only sold like, 5 million between the three of them, then I'd be concerned. As it goes, I don't think Pokémon's going anywhere.

Plus, I love the look of that new Pokémon, it reminds me of Vulpix, and we do need more Dark Pokémon. So I can't wait, personally xD

The other Final Fantasy games don't sell as many copies as FFVII but is Final Fantasy dying out? Is it hell.
Actually, it is. Square Enix have openly admitted themselves that if they don't start to westernise, the Japanese market and the company itself will eventually fold. Square Enix aren't half the company they once were and people are seeing this. Final Fantasy XII was scored highly among critics but heavily criticised amongst fans, this in turn has had a backlash on Final Fantasy XIII which hasn't sold half as well as Square Enix wanted it to. It's becoming a poorer series as it progresses, Final Fantasy XIII has had mediocre reviews from major western critics and doesn't really look set to be breaking records anytime soon. Final Fantasy in general seems to be a less wanted title than current AAA titles.

So why does a decline in numbers since the first game for Pokémon automatically mean it's going to die out? If that's just your opinion, then fine. But it's not hard facts.
Just as this is yours, naturally there are two sides to every argument.

And this is about HeartGold/SoulSilver sales.

Making that more copies than Platinum... Now just think how many more copies that is going to sell once it hits British and American shores.
What are the sales in comparison to Pearl/Diamond? Platinum is essentially the International version of Final Fantasy if you will. They always sell worse than the original titles, ie. Pearl/Diamond.

OH! And I'm pretty sure Pokémon has more sales than FF... but that could just be me. :monster:
It would be appauling if it didn't as Pokemon has a far, far broader audience to that of Final Fantasy which appeals mainly to those who are fans of RPGs.

Edit: The statistics are wrong, certainly for the UK part.
