Multiple Platforms Dark Souls

It's "hollow" and "humanity" now I think. They also took away luck, though. You're just more lucky when you're not a hollow it seems.

They did away with a lot of tedious things as well, such as world tendency. It was a major pain in the ass to get it shifted to either pure white or black in order to get particular NPCs/items to show up.

I'm still unsure of how I feel about the removal of luck, though.

Do you still lose half your health in this hollow form? :ahmed: I don't have a problem with that in Demon's Souls because of the cling ring :hmmm:

You don't, you keep all your health. You only lose health if you're cursed...half of it. Then half again, then again, all the way down to 1/8th, and it sticks even if you die...in fact, once you are cursed, you die automatically. You need an item to lift it.

I am eternally relieved they ditched world tendency, I HATED that in Demon's Souls, it was so bloody convoluted, and just a general pain in the arse.

Oh, and this game has the WORST jumping mechanic ever. Dash, roll and jump are all assigned to the same button. It makes jumping an absolute bloody nightmare...in trying to get back to the Asylum, I ended up falling and losing half my health multiple times, because the jump I needed to make to get the crow's nest was so bloody awkward, and the camera angle didn't help matters. I did actually manage to get back there, but the Stray Demon killed me, and then I went back to Firelink Shrine...I gave up at that point. If I'm going to try making that jump again, I want to be able to kill the boss with relative ease :hmph:

NPCs move about a lot, as well. I found a guy cowering behind a locked door, and now he's at Firelink Shrine, doing absolutely bugger all. I'm tempted to kill him to see what I get for it. Two bodyguards also showed up with a lady in white next to the guy who sells miracles...then vanished again.

Nah, you don't anymore. The only difference is luck and some other junk. Your HP is unaffected now, thankfully. Soul form was hard to use imo. I always felt it should make you move faster being dead, or make your equipment easier to bear but noooooo :hmph:

Well you do more damage in soul form :lew: The downside was you take much more damage.

I don't think you do extra damage, your stealth stat goes up though, making it harder for NPCs to detect you. That and the HP was the only difference (ruling out the multiplayer aspects of it) if I remember right. :wacky:

Either way, I'm going to roll hollow form for a while and see how I feel about it.

I've not noticed any real difference between Hollow and Human forms, asides from the fact that you can summon NPCs you've spoken to when you're in Human form, as well as other players, I think. At least, I summoned Soltaire when I fought against the Bell Gargoyles - he's a real sweetheart, he cut off the main one's tail for me whilst I dealt with the fire-breathing one - and I had two random people at my side when I went into the forest I shouldn't have been in...they both died pretty quick though, so they weren't too much help. xD

(writes list of questions)

How do you summon/be summoned? :gonk:

Do you know how to leave messages yet? :hmmm:

Any voice chat that you've noticed?

Slightly more vibrant glowing text appears on the ground, press X (or whatever the 360 equivalent it) over it and you'll get the opportunity to summon. As for how you're summoned yourself...I have no idea.

You can buy something at one of the merchants that lets you leave messages, I believe.

None :gonk:

I've reached what I think to be what you guys meant with the Undead Burg. I'm grinding at the moment to purchase that repair kit.

I fought my way into the cemetery and killed everything except that which is significantly taller than I am. I acquired the sword and all other loot in there (I also picked up a Winged Spear somewhere, dunno where but I'm using it as a second primary now :edd:)

So, as a thief class my current load out is as such:

Basic thief starting equipment, Bandits Knife/Winged Spear for primary, Buckler (I think it's a buckler)/Crossbow for secondary. I found a ring that protects me from losing stuff when I die but I've yet to equip it as it'll break after it is used. I'm only using normal bolts for my cross for now.

I've also found that as you gain humanity you will slowly lose souls for the over all yield per kill. Your chances of finding better items goes up significantly, though. I have yet to purchase the box but I've already looted most of the weapon he sells just by killing the undead nearby (I have 2 humanity and am human currently).

I've also yet to be invaded. I'm a bit sad at that fact. :sad3:

Hah, I was invaded in The Depths and kicked the kid's ass. It was awesome. I was so pissed that he invaded my world and that I was gonna die, but he turned out to be really, really weak.

It turns out that you can actually regain your souls if you're killed by an invader! I managed to make it back to the point where I died to find a little green haze and about 7000 souls waiting for me...I now have about 10,000 souls, and I really, REALLY need to spend them, because I've started exploring the lower levels of the sewers, and the frog things that spray the curse mist are setting me right on the edge...firebombs work wonderfully, though. Although I now have 9 left, which I doubt will be enough to get me through. Opened up a shortcut, so I might head back to a merchant and pick some up...

Two things I admire in the Souls series;

One, is the weight in combat and death. They've figured out a way to make combat and death dreadful and weighty. Which is what combat in many games lack. Though it loses its novelty as the game progresses seeing how combat is tied to your EX points, and it becomes repetitive as you memorize the patterns and fight the same enemies again. The "gamification" of the Souls games start to resonate loudly and you're aware of it's artificiality. Though that's compensated for exciting boss battles that are both surprising and unpredictable.

Two, is the general feel of being alone in a large hostile environment with no one but cutthroat merchants and craftsmen, and the wraiths of potential friends or enemies. Good game feel.

I just cleared the sewers myself, my attack power was enough to 1 hit kill all the frogs with my Claymore thankfully, until I fell down a pit I was able to avoid most of the frogs :lew:

Right now i'm in Blighttown, trying to find a way down to the swamp, just hit the first bonfire there.

I've been playing for about a week. Rang the church bell, but there is one boss that I just can't seem to beat: Capra Demon in Lower Undead Burg. It's not that I don't know the trick: you need to kill off the hounds first, it's trying to do just that. There is very little room to maneuver, and the hounds stunlock you every time. This is just going to be one helluva time of simply getting lucky. I know once I can manage to take out the hounds without getting killed in the process, I can handle the demon with ease.

I'd recommend just running/rolling straight past them, up the stairs and onto the edge of the ledge if you're having trouble. That'll keep the demon itself away from you - it can't quite reach you there - and give you some time to deal with the hounds~

Problem is I've tried that. The hound keeps intercepting me >.<

:hmmm: Did you pick up the Drake Sword? You should be able to kill the dogs within two hits with that, the trick is just blocking that first hit, which should be alright if you've got a Heater Shield.

If it proves insurmountable, you COULD skip him area entirely...provided you picked the Master Key for your gift at the start of the game. There is a shortcut through the New Londo Ruins to the Valley of the Drakes, and there through to Blighttown. Best of all, it's to the swamp bit of it, meaning you bypass one of the most aggravating areas in the game as a result. From there it's a pretty quick route to the second Bell of Awakening~

If that also fails you can try turning Human and seeing if you can organise a party or alternatively, get invited to a party so you can work out a map of his attack patterns or their start ups, could give you an edge if you want to fight mano o mano with it.

Well, an update, I did beat him, and yes, I had picked up the Drake Sword. Right now, I have better: a +10 Winged Spear and Qualeeg's Fury. At present, I'm trying to form a party for Slough and Ornstien that will actually go after Slough FIRST. So far every single summoning group I do goes after Orstien first. Yes, I know it's easier to beat super Slough, but I want Ornstien's Soul to craft his spear and to be able to buy his armor. And since I didn't buy an item to let me make those orange hints, I have no way to communicate my target choice of who I want offed first >.>

Edit: Finally did it. Luckily, there was a sign on the ground that said immanent giant. I used the point down expression, they read it, and the battle went smoothly ^.^

Edit II - RAGE!!!!!!! SAVE FILE CORRUPTED! NO!!!!!!!!!!

SO, having to completely redo my game AGAIN. Created Sir Fratley the Pyromancer. After grinding in the forest and redoing the game, I am about to go to Sen's Fortress. Currently, this is how my character looks:
Lv. 60
Vit:10
Attunement: 12
End: 20
Str: 24
Dex: 30
Res: 12
Int: 10
Faith: 25
Covenant: Sunbros

Equipment:
Winged Spear +10
Tailsman
Longbow +9
Grass Crest Shield +5
Mix of Eastern and Gold-Hemmed armors
Ring of Favor & Protection
Blue Tearstone Ring/Rusted Iron Ring (situation dependent)

I intend to focus further level-ups to dex and faith, with a faith cap of 30 until NG+, then up to 50 so I can craft and get the Sunspear. Once cap is reached, level ups will focus on Dex and Vitality. Only using two spell slots: one for lightning spear, the other for either Great Fireball or Great Combustion/Fire Whip/Great Heal Excerpt (Situation dependent). Currently offering aid for boss battles so I get enough Sunlight Medals to get the Great Lightning Spear spell. Also looking for people to aid in the O&S fight. Aiming to take down Smough first so I can fight Super Ornstien and get hte soul needed for Dragon Slayer Lance and to be able to buy his armor.

News:
Just found a super easy way to make the most annoying and difficult part of Anor Lando super easy! I speak of the dreaded archer ascent. I found that with a good bow, some aiming adjustment and poison arrows, you can poison the archer on the right. You have to aim about an inch above and a little to the left, you can hit the archer. The arrows won't do any damage (you're too far away), but after hitting him a few times, he'll get poisoned. wait for the poison to do it's job (and I recommend being in hollow form since the last thing you need is a PvP jackoff coming and trying to kill you when you're so close to getting to the next bonfire). I just pulled it off a few minutes ago on a whim. Had to fend off an invader since I was in human form (had to turn human to kindle the first bonfire), but the poison did the trick.
