Original Darkness of the Ancients

I agree with what Lightning mentioned. I mean, the story itself is interesting and I enjoyed reading every chapter. It was just a bit challenging to read.

I guess that you're a final fantasy VIII fan from the style of story you're writing. That's cool cause I am too. XP

Can't wait for the next chapter!
Good Job!

Another mystery unveils

Mount Seela Exit

Arriving outside the tunnels, Damon, Vikki and Olivia were faced with a brand new problem. Before them stood a dragon, the same one as before. It bore a red scaled body with giant talons capable of cleaving a man without a second thought, it’s head bore a spiked crest which was jet black in colour and it’s eyes were as red as the very fires erupting from it’s mouth.

This Dragon wasn’t going to wait for them to make the first move, blasting red hot fire toward them, causing Damon and Olivia to separate from Vikki. “Vikki! You alright?” the dragon then turned to Vikki, attempting to swipe at her with it’s claws, Vikki narrowly backflipping out of it’s grip before leaping toward’s the wall of the mountain and lunging forward, impaling it directly into the eyes.

“What are you waiting for? Come on!” Vikki called over to Damon and Olivia, gesturing them over as Vikki climbed atop it’s head. Damon and Olivia made their way onto the Dragon’s back “Are you sure it’s safe?” Damon asked as he shakily got on it’s back. “Of course it is!” Vikki lunged a kunai into the back of the Dragon, causing it to cry in pain but seemed to obey Vikki now. Slowly it flapped it’s wings into the air and began taking off into the sky.

“Not so fast...” Damon, checking to see if Vikki or Olivia said something saw it was neither of them, from above a female in a red kimono of a foreign land with a giant katana fell from the sky. Her hair was cut short and spiky, with thickness and her face was almost pale with her red lips as the only colour to her face. Her eyes were light brown and she seemed quite small, about 4”11, give or take. Her sword was 6ft, which would ordinarily be too large to wield by someone of her stature seemed just about possible for her. On her feet she wore straw sandals and she seemed to possess an almost calming expression.

Landing firmly on the back of the dragon she lifted her head and with both hands held the katana firmly at Damon’s throat. “You gonna stand there, stupid? She’s gonna kill you!” Olivia pulled him back as she tried to rush the woman and stab her, but was quickly kicked back. “Ooooookay, it’s all on you then...” lightly laughing she pushed Damon back in.

Damon unwillingly faced this woman, unsheathed his sword as the strange woman with the giant katana held it with two hands invertedly at eye level. Damon, seeing her not making a move struck first with a slash to the gut, being easily smacked away by her huge sword. “C’mon nitwit! Kill her already!” Damon looked back “You wanna switch places!?” Before he could get a reply he had to turn around to block a huge slam from the katana against his sword, easily pressing him into the ground. On one knee with both hands pressing on his sword he tried his best simply to not get crushed. Thinking up a plan he quickly came up with something, kicking her directly in the shins she fell over him, head facing off the dragon.

Holding onto her so she didn’t fall off she appeared frail as she fainted, impulsively pulling her up he noted “Heh... Must be scared of heights...” grabbing her huge sword before it could fall he held onto them both “Hey Vikki, where are we landing?” Vikki, busy focusing on holding the dragon down pointed over to a small settlement nearby.

Church of Rana: Exit

Julius, prepared for his mission had mounted his horse Silvermane and charged off for the Temple of Topaz. The sky was an innocent blue with not a cloud in sight. However, his mind was plagued with thoughts, what was going on at the church? Why was he being sent off on an escort mission? Barely 3 miles of galloping and he found himself stopped, by monsters.

Dismounting his horse he patted it’s side to make it step away from them, unsheathing his sword he held it in both hands as he looked around, counting his targets. 6 of you bastards, eh? Well make it quick” all six of the monsters were black, wolf-like creatures, possessing no features, just a simple silhouette. One wolf charged him, Julius’ impressive strength made short work of it, as he charged forward, delivering an overhead punch into it’s skull, killing it easily as it faded into smoke.

The other five charged him at this point, overconfidently he swung his sword in a 360 arc, cutting down 4 of them as a 5th leapt onto him, bringing him to the floor. A moment later an arrow of blue light struck down the creature. “I assume you’re alright?”

Temple of Topaz: Grand Hall

The next morning Mark, Ami, Amanda, Jessica and Mandi stood before the giant entrance door leading outside. In silence, as this didn’t need to be a grand occasion they pushed through the door and left the Temple. “So, how far is Lesar Village?” Amanda asked Mandi, as she was in charge of navigation. “First we cross the plains, then we navigate around Mount Seela and the village should be straight ahead. We’d best be careful around Mount Seela; there have been sightings of a dragon there” everyone nodded as Mark lead the way through the plains, with Mandi’s navigation skills to keep on track.

After roughly 10 minutes of walking through the grassy plains, Mark felt a strange magic at work, it felt oddly familiar. Bringing the group to a halt he scanned around, seeing if it was nearby, from above a giant black ball began to expand as a man appeared from it it began to close in on itself, it was Zardan!

“You again... What are you doing here?” Zardan chuckled to himself “Isn’t it obvious, Ancient? I’m here to collect you...” lifting his right hand to eye level, his arm began to fill with dark energy, just as it gathered into a sphere it shattered into glass-like magical shards, cutting off the spell instantly.

Turning around they saw who they presumed to be a man dressed head to toe in animal furs and war paint decorations. Of what little skin on show he appeared to be darkly skinned, like one would compare to a barbarian tribesman. He bore no weapons, yet he appeared dangerous. His build appeared quite muscular and he seemed to have a strange silver tattoo on his arm. “Friend or foe? Speak quickly!” Zardan called out to him, though the answer appeared obvious it was unknown whether he was their ally, or had another reason to prevent his attack.

The strange robed man however, did not reply, instead he walked through Mark and co and stepped up to Zardan. Zardan attempted to launch a black wave of lightning at the man, who simply swatted it away with his hand, making it disappear on contact. As he stood, towering over Zardan forcefully punched him in the stomach; Zardan being powerless to stop him was flung into the air, opening a portal to catch him.

Mark walked behind this large man, stopping short of a few inches of him “Just who the heck are you?”

Dragonback cliffs campsite

Argor, having trekked for the past few days found himself on the Dragonback cliffs. He had set up camp for himself and his friends had gone back to the oceans, trying to help the situation as best they could. Besides, how well would they last on a mountain? As night came over the campsite, Argor looked on to the stars, he could sense something nearby, some malevolent spirit was at work here.

As he was about to go and find it, the spirit found him. A spirit on a mountain... An unusual occurrence in itself, it was pretty much a floating mass of energy, almost invisible to the human eye. Argor, slightly able to see it, pressed lightly on it while focusing his thoughts, eventually the spirit changed into a physical form. It however, was not a spirit as Argor assumed. In fact, it changed into a window, the ‘glass’ was watery, pressing his hand through, Argor felt cold air on the other side. Moving his body through it he found himself in a blizzard, in some snowy place.

The ‘window’ disappeared behind him, clinging to himself for warmth his body began to shake as the blizzard began to blow aside from him he looked up. Before his eyes stood a female of ice, though Argor knew this was no ordinary monster he had no weapons to fight it. Before her ice capabilities he had no chance, his body however was rapidly growing cold, at a faster rate now she was approaching him. “You, small creature, scurrying in like a mouse, become my new puppet...”

And after a huge delay, here’s the next chapter. Who are the three mysterious figures who have appeared to the heroes? And what has happened to Argor and who is this ice woman?

Find out next time

Looks like everyone's paths will soon become intertwined! :hmmm:

Good chapter overall. It's still a little hard to read with things here and there, but it's better spaced out than it was before. Don't keep us waiting for longer next time! xD

Chapter One: Nice start, deceptively innocent school-like beginning. The duels and characters were interesting and the whole thing flowed very well.

Chapter Two: Excellent transition from mock battles to real urgency. You managed to capture a sense of urgency very well, and also introduce a ruthless villain, who won't hesitate to kill achild.
