I finished watching Death Note [for the 3rd time] with my boyfriend, and we both realized that we liked some of the more 'disliked' characters. So, I figured I'd make a thread to talk about everyone's favorite characters, and throw up a poll to go with it.

Pick whoever you guys like, I made it multiple.

L. And N. Light is a self-righteous prick, so I don't like him much.

Although I like L because he has Asperger's traits and is fairly logical. I would have liked N more if he wasn't quite just some character thrown in the last half of the manga.

My favorite, favorite characters were Matsuda, Mikami, and Near.

I loved Matsuda because he was the happy-go-lucky, clueless guy who in the end...ended up doing more damage to the villain, than anyone else.

I loved Mikami because of how loyal and righteous he was...yet how fragile his sanity was, as well. I just thought he was an interesting character, and almost all of his scenes are great.

I liked Near, because unlike L, he got the job done. L's mistake was getting close to Light, yet Near was smart [and lucky] enough to keep a hands off approach to Light, which enabled him to win in the end. I did think his way of catching Light was a bit of a cop-out, but I just liked his character more. L was too smart, to the point of rethinking all of his thoughts. Near made conclusions, and ran with them, without rethinking it. And, he happened to right on it. Plus...watching him play with toys was oddly cute.

I liked that aspect of N too. Everytime we see him, he's always surrounded with toys, models, tall stacks of objects and other items. It's really nifty in a geeky appreciative way.

My favorite, favorites were Mello, Ryuk, and Light's dad.

Light wasnt so bad until he got cocky. And L was such a loser. He had no reason for his conclusions, and used impossible tests that when thwarted managed to still keep his attention irrationally.

L had aspergers? aside from the fact that I dont think its real... L was fairly outgoing and didnt seem at all awkward in social settings. Intelligent? Yes. In no small part thanks to Watari.

Mello is probably my favorite character overall. I just liked his over all attitude and I think he was a nice contrast to L.

I also like L and Light about the same. Though I wouldn't like Light in real life, I could appreciate how he went from a character that had misplaced good intentions to down right psychotic. And when he lost his memory of the Death Note he was a pretty sweet person.

And L, I just like L for his originality. He's quirky and he's smart. And you wouldn't expect a character like him to play the role that he did.

I like the contrast between L and Light. You would expect Light to be the good guy and L to be the villain based on appearences. But of course, the characters are the exact opposite of that in the story.

And I like Light's dad. I liked his overall attitude through out the story.

Some one with aspergers doesn't necessarily have to be with drawn from everyone else. They just have to behave in a socially unaccepted way with out realizing it. I know a kid a my school who has aspergers and is very sexually expressive. He had a restraining order out against him for asking the lady at the book store if he could tie her up.

Mine would be L I liked his Smart Conclusions, he's way too smart even so his appearance says different O_O , and he was the one who made "Death Note" exciting :monster:

QFT! And he was really adorable when he lost his memory!
But I did happen to notice a few character traits that were consistent -- he's stubborn and headstrong, and will do anything to protect his morals (like his dad XD). During the Yotsuba arc he used those traits for good, but when he had the Death Note he used them for "evil".

I loved all of the characters... Except for Misa. She was... alright, but I felt sorry for her when I heard that
she killed herself at the end... and on Valentine's day
. But my favorite character out of all of them is Light *points at username*. He was probably one of the most developed characters and the hottest. He's not one of those shallow bad guys that you commonly find in anime.

L was really interesting. He was my favorite character in the beginning. I've never seen a character like him, and he was really unique. Also headstrong. He valued winning more than he valued his own life.

I voted for L. He's definitely my favorite character. Yeah, I've heard the theory that he's mildly autistic or has Asperger's. He's really intelligent, but also really quirky and interesting. I just about cried when he told Light that he'd never had a friend before.
And in the episode where he dies, and he's washing Light's feet, and I think he cries (?); I almost lost it. So saaad.

I freaking hated Light. -_- I was with him until about the third episode, when he starts getting self righteous and arrogant. Ugh. I hated him. He just uses people constantly and pretends to be doing society a favor, while he's really completely self serving. God, the ending was so gratifying. :neomon:

Mello was pretty cool. I liked his style. Near was an L ripoff who wasn't nearly as interesting. Mikami was...just really crazy-ass and cool looking. His appearance in the anime was one of the coolest parts, imo. The crazy music is playing in the background, and he's just writing dramatically and screaming "eliminate!!" I love that part.

And though he hasn't really been mentioned, I loved Ryuuk. He was completely indifferent to everything, but he was still so entertaining.

I voted for Light because Deathnote really took a different perspective on the main character as far as being evil....you don't know whether to be on his side....or L's.

Honestly , Near. He's like L, but alot more hardcore. He's insolent, a brat, and plays dirty. I quite like him. Heck, I probably like Mello more than L too. Then L.

I voted for Light. He is such a cool character and i believe he used the death note for a good reason although killing is bad.

I've only read a couple of mangas, but my favorite is Mello, bwahaha. I overall think that L is overrated (primarily because I know Derek), and Mello's persona is more appealing and charismatic to me. :D

no u

i blame L's giant L on teh computah and all the kewl icons people make. and hirotoki :neomon:

But.... L had a unique way of getting me to laugh, and I liked that. :P He's just adorable with his japanese voiceover :wacky:

I didn't really like any of the other characters besides the team working on the Kira Case, really. I hated Near though,
he made the anime ending really shit
.

I've got to say, I'm not a fan of L. He was a very impossible character, constantly able to be just one step ahead of Light no matter how incredible Light performed.

And I know, 'why should Light be held to a higher standard?' Well he did have a good reason for being as cautious and calculating as he was, he was Kira, public enemy no. 1.

Meanwhile, L furiously chased Light with very little reason (though it was obvious the creator wanted you to think that he had one.) Seeming to be dwelling on a 'hunch' and took severe risks against his 'hunch' but then quickly retreated when he was forced onto unsteady ground. Light would bring about almost perfect evidence to his innocence and L would still have 'just a feeling'.

Meanwhile, Near on the other hand simply followed his guts and moved perfectly towards them. He had a few advantages over L, granted. But I firmly believe he would have performed differently than L.

How did Near ruin the ending?

I couldn't have asked for a better ending, personally. Everything I wanted to happen, did happen. Though, I did think that the 'evidence' seemed like a bit of a cop-out, but the show did a bad job of really explaining how it was done.

I like L, but I like Near and Mello more than I liked L, for most of the reasons already mentioned. Near was more cocky than L was, and he wasn't silly enough to actually associate with Light on a personal level, that was the key factor that enabled Near to get so far. L's biggest mistake was getting close to Light, if he kept a hands-off approach to him as Near did, things could have turned out a lot differently for L than they did.

I suppose the movie-ending was the 'sorry guys!' ending that the creator offered up to the fans who didn't like the anime/manga ending.

That kind of came out wrong... For me the ending is a love it AND hate it kind of thing. You watch the main character come so far, just to be taken out so abruptly. It's really irritating to me. :wacky:

Though, there really isn't a better way of ending a series than killing off the life of the show/main character, which makes it a good ending.

Though, I never knew the film altered the ending. That's some shit fanservice. Well, unless it was like minor alteration, like how the character died. If I was just saying it like that, the anime would be equally as deserving to be called shit fanservice, seeing that anime is derived and bastardized from manga. D :

If you want to know how the movie ended, read this:
Near, Mello, and Mikami are not in the movie at all. Light's father isn't dead, and L also isn't dead, he comes back at the end with the proof against Light, only issue is, he used the Death Note to fake his own death, and will have 21 days to live. Matusa shoots Light like he did in the anime, and when Light freaks out, he demands that Ryuk kills L. Ryuk agrees, but when he shows Light the name that he had written, it was Light's name, and he dies there as a result.

None on that list! :neomon: As I totally prefer Beyond Birthday and Reiji Namikawa - hubba hubba hubba. : purr ! : I could vote other, but I'll just go with Matsuda. I felt extreme, EXTREME, satisfaction - at the end,
when he got to shoot the hell out of Light over and over and over again. The bastard deserved it. Now that was a perfect ending for me. Yes, I hate Light with a passion! ;D

L, just for his pure intelect...
And could someone tell me what happened in the ending of the anime?
I've only known about the movie...
