i was getting tired of listening to the same songs on my ipod the other day so i cleared it and stupidly decided to clear my itunes library as well - what i didn't anticipate was that it would ACTUALLY DELETE the music that was in it. i restored it from my trash bin but for some unfathomable reason i decided to delete them again, permanently, thinking i could just reload the music from my older ipod (which i thought had all the music, only now realizing it doesn't).

moral of the story: i've lost quite a number of songs and i don't know which is missing, and i feel like a complete idiot. i made one stupid decision after another. GAAAAAAGDHSJALK;DHSAIOI;DHVJLS

Oh man that sucks.

I lost a lot of my music when my hard drive crashed, and it took me FOREVER to find it all again. And I've done the same thing you did on a much smaller scale before.

Good luck getting it all back.

yh i hate this when this happens this happened with my college work to me last year :/ hope you can recover it XD

Problem circumvented if you buy CD's:tehe:

I'll probably always just save up the money to buy CDs as long as they're available;it gives the artist every ounce of the money they deserve(I'm sure I'm in the distinct minority taking this into consideration);it has the best sound quality;and you don't need to worry about the above scenario.

I prefer paper books, too.:wacky:I'm sure the day will come when I'll be outright ridiculed for both these things.

I think I've done this once or twice. Surprisingly it didn't take me that long to restore it or rather restoring everything was less annoying than I thought it would be.

It's alright you probably have poor taste in music.
Though I don't really see the point of the thread. I certainly shan't delete all the songs from my iTunes library now. But I wasn't planning on doing that anyway. Hmmm.
I have so many that I don't know if I could be bothered putting them on again.

I'd be upset if I did that. Of course, first I'd have to own an MP3 player. Now if I'd lost all the music off of my computer that'd suck because there's like 2,600 or so songs on there. That'd be a pain in the ass to replace.

This is mostly a rant thread 'cause i needed to vent. I've managed to restore most of my lost music, but there are some that i had for years that are now gone. that's life i guess, but i'm kicking myself over how i lost stuff thanks to a dumb mistake. baad :[

Can't say I've ever done this, but then I don't own an Ipod, MP3 player.

I used to have a cheap MP3 years ago but never had this happen to me.

I'd be more annoyed if I deleted the songs from my computer. Then there is really no way to remember all that you had and to re-download them all. :sad3:

Though my other computer just died and it had a bunch of music on it. I'm afraid I won't be able to fix it and save all my music onto a USB. >.<

No it doesn't, only a few percent of the CD sales go to the artist, the majority goes to the corporation that owns them.
Anyway, I think if this happened to me, I'd probly commit suicide, 70 gigabytes worth of music (11816 songs) would not be a nice thing to lose :(

This is one of my biggest fears. All the stuff I've downloaded has been deleted. It's kinda why I'm afraid of the eventually digital age. Where we'll have to keep everything on a drive or whatever. Not too cool tbh. XD at least in this case you can still get it back.

when i got a new laptop, i had to burn all my cd's to it to restore my library on there because i didn't have a micro usb at the time to plug my mp3 player in and do it that way. also, when i played ff6 i got near the end and accidentally deleted it when i was clearing some other stuff off my memory card. since that, i've never had the heart to go back and replay it properly even though i really enjoyed the game.

I switched laptops recently, and used my USB to save my documents.

I forgot to extract those documents onto my new laptop...And gave the USB to a friend for a lend. He cleared it off. :sad3:

I keep all my music backed up onto an external hardrive incase anything like this happens to me. I do it once every 2 months since I have over 10,000 songs.

Edit: Also making a Last.fm account and scrobbling your music to the website is a great idea, that way if you lose a certain song or band you can look at your last.fm to see if its on there to remember the name/artist whatever.

http://www.last.fm/user/Bengal_Chris for an example

I now have two 2TB hard drives with all my music, videos etc saved on them in case anything were to happen to my computer.

My friend lent me their hard drive (which was the exact same model as one of mine) for me to copy all my new movies and such onto it for them.

Unfortunately it died a few days later when they were using it and they lost all their information.

I luckily had another 2TB hard drive that was a totally different model with all the same info saved on it, so if my model that was the same as theirs died as well, I'd be covered by the other one.

I never just wanted to copy all my info onto one hard drive and then clear the computer. I needed to make sure that there was a second hard drive in case the first one died. >.< So glad I did it!

Much of the time, I laugh at people who this happens to because many of them illegally download their music and I feel that they deserve this. I have very little music on my laptop; just one or two albums I think. All the CDs I purchase, I usually back up onto my Xbox only because I like listening to some of my music while playing certain games. I don't use mp3 players, as I still have the same CD Walkman I have had for atleast fifteen years now. That thing is a beast. :mokken:

I've gone through quite a few laptops in the last 7 years and the 2 things that annoy me the most are a) losing all my graphic art resources and the second which is the most annoying thing by an absolute mile is losing all my music. It takes me forever to download everything again. Im not talking hours either im talking about days and you never manage to get it all back either. youl be sittin on the bus once day and think.
''Ooooh I really wanna listen to this song''
Then you scroll through your library on your ipod to find this song and of course its not there :rage:

I threw out some older CDs that I had with old songs that I handpicked in high school, thinking they were 'obsolete', but, I got myself back into rap and have something of a lingering remorse for it, so I know the feeling. The sure solution is to ease out of the shock and get the most appealing songs, and I wish you luck in your recovery. Again, my condolences.

I cleared all mine by accident not to long ago, lost it all off the phone, ipod and iTunes. I was able to get the downloads back easy enough with a quick copy paste from my music folder, its all the CDs ive copied over that il have to copy AGAIN that's really pecking my head.
