Did anyone ever...

Oh, I've killed many Malboros, it's pretty easy, just junction Blizzard Elemental atk, Pain, berserk, and Break for Status Def, Death for Status Atk, easily take out Malboro and other Monsters.

Easy as heck once you have Ribbon, to guard against all status ailments.

I have beaten far more of them than I cba to count. XD Also, the attacks do little damage to me, due to high defensive stats. ;)

Where do you get the ribbon because I really really need it! :gasp:

As for me, I have yet to kill even one of those damn marlboros, or anything for that matter, on the Island Closest to Hell. Normally I just mug it for its goodies, then get my arse outta dodge before it has a chance to kill me. I think I'll get all of my characters leveled up over 70 before I attempt fighting one again because the 'Game Over' screen gets old after awhile D=

I killed them without too much trouble personally.

However I had a pretty hefty amount of status resistances on all my characters. It wasn't 100% of everything, but it was enough for me to keep control of my characters so they could remedy/esuna.

However I would like to note that I set up a perfect junctioning system (every person could equip magic to every stat/resistance available) and spent hours drawing magic (which I never used, just equipped). Also I spent quite some time figuring out how I should equip my magic for the optimal performance based on how I played.

Needless to say I basically made my characters as close to god as you could get on that game.

Yes i beat marlboro i was junctioned right and beat him around level 30.

You can get Ribbon only if you have Pocket station, which you have to breed a chicobo, and fight with your friends who also have chicobo and win the battle to level up your chicobo, so that you can find rare item in the chicobo quest. If you're playing the pc version of FFVIII, they have included this game during the installation, but if you're playing in PS, you have to buy that pocket station console.

I pretended Ribbon doesn't exist in FFVIII, because I don't have pocket station, just equipped the best and suitable defenses, weapons, and attacks for the battle would be fine.

Forget the ribbons, Squall or anyone else in your party except Quistis.

You see Quistis as this limit break called Degenerator which is a one hit attack that defeats monsters instantly including the Malboro.

All you need to do is have Quistis with critical HP and with the ability Initiative, which you can learn from a few GFs like Pandemona or Cactuar for example, now Initiative gives your character the first turn and so all you need to do is select Degenerator from Quistis limit break list and it's bye bye Malboro.

To make it safer you can junction: Berserk, Confuse, Pain, Sleep and so on...to your status defense. And i garantee you wont have problems with a Malboro again.

You can't get Ribbon normally, smartass, you only have it because you used Gameshark and Defense is not a problem, magic status is!

By Junctioning 100x Pain, Sleep and a couple more spells on your characters J-Status (except Berserk) you can kill a Marlboros easilly by attacking them with heavy damage or using Degenerator. ;D

You can't get Ribbon on the game through normal way, the only way to get it is through Pocketstation or like Meta Charizard did, Gameshark.

my thoughts on topic

When I fight them she uses bad breath then every now and then she'll use a move to wake one of my charaters up. From then I just pound away hoping she wakes up another. Yeah I have killed a high amount of marlboros this way. usally one on one.

I never realised people had such problems with this, I though marlboros were pretty harmless once you set up your status-def junctions. If you protect against Confuse, Berserk, Poison and either Silence or Blind you should be fine.

EDIT: Wait can you junction berserk? I have something niggling in my brain that you can't for some reason?

I really hate Malborros and there freakin bad breathe attack it just freakin annoys me not only in viii but in Final Fantasy X. God I hate those ugly malborros.

Why not? you can junction it either in status-atk or status-def, something wrong with it? or you can't junctioned it?

The Best Junctioning to defend the "Bad Breath" attack and other monsters' attack is;

Status Attack
Death (works for other monsters, not Marboro)

Status Defense
Pain (Silence, Bio, Blind already included)
Berserk
Confuse
Sleep or Break (if you have more slot)

Elemental Attack
Firaga if you're in Heaven
Blizzaga if you're in Hell

Elemental Defense
Full-life x 100
Shell x 100
Protect x 100
Ultima x 100

Note: This will give you absord magics rather than just defense.

Character should be bring with;
Quistis with Degenarator which can be learn from item "Black Hole".
Equip Threatment command from Siren GF

Extra;
Recover command from Leviathan GF
Revive command from Alexander GF

100x Pain
100x Berserk
100x Confuse
100x sleep
=> then malboro looks like a flower haha

@ AmanoLover

I didn't know Malboros from heaven and hell react differently to other E-AttackJ...
What about Grandidi and Esthar Malboros? They were always weak against Ice element...

No, you've misunderstand, that's just my opinion for the convenient that you fight other monsters who had the weakness to the elements, for example, if you junctioned Firaga while you're on Hell, your attack will actually heal the monsters, not hurt them. my thoughts were plants should be weakness to fire or ice.

There's no different between heaven and hell malboros or Grandid and Esthar malboros

I beat them everywhere you find them.
Have plenty of remedies and auras.
Have one character immune to at least confuse, berserk, and death.
Place the auras on the person who is immune.
Have rinoa in your party.
Use her limits to become invincible.

I pretty much ran away whenever I encountered one, lol. This was the first FF game I had ever played so I think its fair to say that I was a green little n00b. I wasn't a master battle ace so whenever I saw one I turned tail and fled, my friends. I remember the first time I fought one, I thought 'damn, you are ugly!' Then it did it's infamous breath on me and I was stuffed. I was one unhappy 15 year old girl.

Actually just thinking about it makes me want to just go and find one to see if I could beat it. I probably couldn't even now, lol.
