It just felt like an unneeded extension of the first game. SE knew fans loved the "romance" between Tidus/Yuna. They then proceeded to milk it into a sequel adding some girl sexual prowess to coax some more male buyers since the females would inherently buy it.
That's actually a great way to describe what it is and what it has done to the series, glitterbunnie. :D

One more thing that struck me as...weird... Yuna and Rikku are cousins right? So that would make Yuna and Brother cousins... but Brother wants to... be with Yuna... someone explain that to me....
You'd be surprised by how often that happens...Just something to make Brother creepy, I bet. :neomon:

X-2 made it better. It added a sense of completion to the story. FFX seemed like it was written by 13-year-olds who don't know how to properly express themselves in words. The dialogue was childish, and the plot was comprised of broad strokes of inexplicable sentiment. It was like a 90-hour Jim Jarmusch film. Imagine that.

Well...it ruined the story. I thought the gameplay in FFX-2 was actually really fun and I've been waiting for the return of a good job class system for a while. X-2 sort of provided that for me. :D

They should have just created a new game. The ending of FFX was perfect in my opinion. Very sad and happy at the same time. They had it right on que, but then they sold out in order to try to make more money. The storyline and character design in X-2 was utter shite, but the gameplay was still fun.

You're right though, FFX's ending was quite perfect actually. Yuna's speech made it much more bittersweet and it could have stayed that way. Ah well. :\

While I do like FF10-2's ending, just cuz I couldn't see Tidus go, I have to say that yes, mostly the ending, did ruin it.

The whole point of 10 was that Yuna was going to die at the end, and Tidus would do anything to stop it. And in the end, he ended up dying. It was sad and bittersweet, but a nice twist.

All of 10-2 was Yuna trying to find Tidus, but different people teaching her not to dwell on the past. Then, unexplained, he's back and everything is happily ever after?

@nomad I'm sorry but I have to say I most certainly disagree with you. 10 is known for its remarkable story, and the dialogue was nothing short of beautiful. I actually found it to have some of the best dialogue of many of the different video games I've played!

As I thought.

But really, FFX is known for great story and dialogue? The entire story of X is you trying to find Sin. And then you find it and fight it. For a long RPG, that's really not enough to keep the excitement going the whole time. You could really summarize everything you need to know about the plot in a paragraph.

I found a lot of the dialogue stilted. There was always some kind of disconnect between what two people were saying. I remember thinking it sounded unnatural almost the whole time. I thought FFX was known for that terrible scene where Tidus and Yuna are pretending to laugh. That pretty much sums up how terrible the dialogue and characters are.

FFX-2 fixed a lot of the problems of the original. So I'm glad they realized their mistakes.

I find the discussion of which game people played first outside of FFX/X-2 irrelevant to this topic...

And yeah, FFX is definitely known for it's great story- one scene does not sum up the whole of FFX's dialogue, especially as there are so many scenes of dialogue, and all of them are better than the laughing scene, so I totally disagree with what you're saying there. FFX-2 didn't fix any of the problems, as you claim. FFX-2 changed the way you fought and the way you advanced with the story, but that doesn't mean it "fixed" anything

Am I the only one that thinks Tidus didn't even die at the end of FFX? After the credits you see him wake up in the water like he did when he first came to Spira. The ending was bittersweet, but they still added that little cutscene for those who wanted to know that Tidus didn't disappear forever. I think FFX-2 was horribly long winded and that 10 second scene was plenty to end the story, let the fan fictions take over instead of hammering it to the death.

Yes I have to say I am not a fan of the FFX-2 story, but I don't remember all of it so I am actually considering making a second attempt to play through it.

The re-occuring antagonist was absolutely ridiculous, it was like Team Rocket from Pokemon. I loved Seymour, one of my favorite villains... but he died with FFX.

So what made me keep playing? What's making me consider playing it again? The battle system was awesome. I love clean parties, I hate having a bloated party of 7-10 in which at least 3 of the characters become the "weak ones" and get shoved off the battlefield for good. I had no problem at all with 3 female characters, and using dress spheres not only kept battle and strategy entertaining it allowed me to tailor my character's abilities exactly how I wanted them.
