Do Guys like Girl Gamers more as opposed to non-Girl Gamers

Can't say I've noticed anything different with a girl whether she games or not.

Sure, it's cool blasting away on a game together and getting competitive, but at the same time, gaming is usually my escape, something I do like to do on my own at times, and I think it's healthy for people to have different interests so they aren't constantly under eachothers feet.

Though, if I did find me a girl tomorrow, and she was a gamer, that'd be cool, make for some good nights in if there's nothing on TV or whatever. If she isn't, then atleast it's something for me to slip away into when I want some alone time.

Though it's got to be said, there's nothing more funny and sweet than playing a game with a girl who has no clue about gaming and gets really into it, screaming at the TV and panicking and shit. xD

Funny? Yes. Sweet? More like embarrassing and annoying. I've seen girls like this on a regular basis. They spend twenty minutes playing Counter Strike, act less coordinated than a drunk ballet dancer, and make a big show whenever they run right into an enemy camp and get fragged repeatedly. If they're not willing to take the game seriously, they might as well get back to reading Seventeen and stop pretending like they enjoy strategic and competitive forms of entertainment.

And Ive seen guys panic and run round in the same way in CS. Not all are pretending to like it. I did my best to get into it so I can play agaisnt one guy I was dating and yeah I did like it for a while, but I hated the guys I played agaisnt cause they were jerks cause I had tits.

Well hey, I've seen it with girls I've been in a relationship with, and it's those moments of spotting the little things you wouldn't normally see that I think are some of the best times.

I don't like guys that harass women on voice chat, they're assholes and part of the reason that a lot of girl gamers look down on gaming communities to begin with. I think they've been brainwashed by sites like 4chan to think such behavior somehow makes them an alpha male. But there are increasing numbers of well moderated servers are cropping up that that quickly ban these people before they become a problem.

That being said, we shouldn't always pressure girls to play the games guys traditionally enjoy. I've found that a lot of younger female gamers are much more willing to play games like Gears of War if you're willing to challenge them on Club Penguin or Bejeweled.

Okay, that's a tad harsh there. I'm not going to pretend that when I play a game like say, Counterstrike or Halo with a bunch of my male friends that I act like a composed and serious gamer. If it's a game that I'm not familiar wit, genre wise then what's my immediate response when I keep getting ambushed? Well I laugh about it and poke fun at myself (and occasionally I'll make a little amusing jab at my male friends too). Do they mind? No, they're pretty cool with it and there's some guys I'd played with that didn't even know me on a first name basic, who didn't become insulted at my behavior.

But then, everyone reacts differently, right? Right. Well enough about me. The fact of the matter is, now every girl is going to approach a game like say, Half Life 2 for instance or Portal with the same restrained enthusiasm as you might or as some other guy would. You have female gamers who I'm sure would agree with you and would probably play these sort of games with a practiced amount of patience but that's probably because they're used to playing these games. I'm not the sort of girl that sits and plays traditionally male-oriented games; you won't find me oohing and aawing over Counterstrike or Team Fortress 2 but when I'm invited to try it out, then sure I'll do it willingly. Does that mean that I'm going to pretend to love it if I don't, honestly probably not, but I'll respect the person who allowed me to try it. I know enough, to say when I can or can't play a certain game.

That said, I do agree with you on the verbal harassment. Whether it's from guys or from girls that play multi player or co-op games on the net, it's just silly. It's downright rude for a guy to heckle a girl because "man she sucks at . . ." such and such a campaign or whatever. Grow the heck up, is what I'd say. If you can't deal with the fact that some girls aren't as L33t as you are then maybe you should shut the game off for a while and do something else with your life.
So cut the girls that do act like that some slack, at least they're trying to play the game.

Contrary to how society views gaming now, it's still a means of entertainment. If a girl plays and has fun with it, regardless of her skill or ability, then that's what really matters. It's not serious business, it's just for fun. Whenever I've played games with some FFFers (and some of them are girls), I just wanted to have fun. We shared many laughs in ours games, even if we sucked in the process. We're not all MLG, nor do we all want to be MLG. If MLG people can't accept the fact that people are playing games for fun, and not for profession, then maybe they should take a step back and realize that they are the ones who are being irrational. The gaming world is a free world, not one ruled by the serious gamer.

Good question

For myself the answer is yes (well it is a plus). Ive had girlfriends that were not into anime or games and it did creat issues. Ive had female friend gamers but never anyone i was involved with. With girls in the past many looked down on me for playing my games. It always felt like i was attacked. So to get involved with a girl that shares a love for gameing may be a possitive change.

Does gender really come into this concept?

In the virtual world men and women are evenly matched, dont take this the wrong way ladies but in most competitive arenas men and women are held apart for the different physical abilities they poses.

Heres where I could get in trouble.........Men are Stronger than women its a fact beyond our control, but this has little effect in Video games, so From my POV what gender you are has little bearing on my attitude towards.

Expect no Quarter, For no Quarter is given.

What is that line from FFDissidia?......Garland says to Terra

"Expect no chivalry here woman!"

That may sound stupid but its how I approach such situations, that being said if a Chick comes into a session its assumed she is fair game unless she wants help and that is no different than if it were a guy.

VG are a competitive arena, and female/Male sexual......stuff.......should, at least I reckon should, be left on outside. When it comes to MMORPG type of games the convergence of of the sexes is just a consequence of the real world being inhabited by both genders.

Certainly VG are a male dominated Arena, but girl gamers are just as good as good as there male counterparts, better even when it comes to some trickier parts in games, not in my extremely wild dreams could I see a Girlgamer putting there fist through a wall as did a few times when I was younger..........but you never know right?

Yeah I was kinda angry back in the day..........grrrrrrrr! or is that rooooaaarrr!

Did any off that sound Chauvinistic?:hmmm:

Strangely I feel an ass whuppin coming my way!

I actually get along quite well with the girls yknow in regular social settings wihch is surprising coz if you saw me you would run......or walk briskley in the other direction
Think HULK!

I wonder if some Girlgamers actually do capitalize on there........Female Charms?

After writing this I feel like some Womans Lib group is gonna put a hit out on me.....It feels wrong some how......

To be honest it puts me off a little bit. Anything where people would invest a lot of time into isn't good if it's not together. Sometimes made worse if it is too much time together too I suppose. My girlfriend and I will happily play the likes of SceneIt or Uno or somethign quite basic like that. But I think if we were investing a lot of time and money into a games console and playing whatever, having out own little groups of friends and what not it would put me off. Not because I wouldnt trust my partner, but because I just don't see it as an overly appealing thing to me if I was with someone who was on XBL 24/7 and bought every new game that came out. And I wouldn't expect my partner to want that from me either. a bit of a gamer girl is always awesome, but just like everything it's all about variation. I couldn't be bothered with doing the same thing every night etc.

Though in fairness, I can't say if one is nbetter than the other. Just depends on the person really. So as an activity it is good, but as a habit it isn't.

I think SE were influenced by girls when developing FFX-2..........I'm not being sexist or anything, but the game is really girly. As well as the dialogue,it even had yuna as a famous singer which is almost every girl's dream as a teenager. But overall I think girl gamers are good, even though I don't like FFX-2 it does bring a little fun into the game.

But I obviously prefer guy games instead of girl-games................

But I doubt there is a much girl-gamers then guys..............

even though this forum is full of girls

How generous of you.

What kind of instincts are carried over to the VG world by both genders?

In an RPG scenario are guy gamers intimidated by a powerful female warrior? Do girls feel initially drawn to the roles associated with magic as many VG developers would have you assume.

Is it wrong for guy gamers to want to protect his female team members?

It might be pointless to psycho-analyze these dynamics but it could be fun to see what is acceptable....

In terms of how it may effect the way I interact with Girls..........if they are great, if not thats still ok because we notall things must be shared to be friends, An exclusive GF is a little different.

My Animus Femelicia(latin for.......girl friend) likes to play Wii games and thats not my style but when we play wrestling together its fun because it involves a certain amount of teamwork.

I also play games with my niece.......which is......fun....I suppose.

Guys harass Girls on live chat?

Idiots! Way to make people feel welcome you wankers!

yeah, I think its true, I get allot more attention once boys find out I play games.

lots of guys dream of girls who play video games like they do
and yeah, I think it used to be more rare. when I was younger they made a bigger deal about it, then they do now

but then of course there are the old fashioned guy's who like girls who game. but aren't willing to accept the tomboy aspect that comes allong with us
because they like girls who act like girly, but are entertained with the fact that we can kick you ass in soul caliber

"waah why dont you wear make up?
waaah why dont you have any other friends that are girls?
waah why dont you straten your hair, or wear dresses?"
that's all I get sometimes...
bleah. I aint no girly girl

I think the higher amount of attention that female characters in MMORPGs receive in comparison to male characters is evidence that there is some gender bias going on. I'm pretty sure anyone trying out a female in WoW or Maple Story can attest to this.

Hmm... I can't really say, as every single girl I know plays video games. Or at least, the ones I care to admit I know.

I have found that those people who are really preppy and all that BS that makes them total bitches (no offense to any of you truly intended, I just am disgusted by a lot of people at my school) have no interest in games. Meanwhile, the people that I actually consider someone worth talking to all have an interest in games.

I have noticed, however, that guys (myself included) do seem to enjoy hanging out with a girl that also games, as it gives them something to do that doesn't involve going out to a resturaunt/movie/ whatever the hell you do on a date. Plus, when you team up with a girl and wipe out the opposing 4 people by yourselves and tell them this, you find out that they're for the most part sexist and you learn a few new insults.

(I tried this, with similar effects, while teaming up with my sister while I was 12. Learning that you got beat by a kid and a chick apparently sends some people right up the wall. Kinda funny.)

Um... *cough cough* No one likes X-2. And if they do, they're 8 years old or younger. And consider the context that game was made in. Japan, people. It's pretty well known that they don't hold women in too high regard at all, okay? So it shouldn't surprise you that they made some crapstick, fungus-ridden, shit-licking, pus-oozing, wamby pamby, lily-livered game starring three 'girls' (i like to think of them as diseases, myself) that consciously panders to the female sex and thus puts a bad name on all of us females.

God, that makes me physically ill, to think of that game!

I think FFX-2 was consciously made to pander and be condescending to females, and let me tell you one thing, we girls notice this kind of crap and we don't like it. At. All. In fact, I do believe someone said that X-2 left thousands of gamers camping outside the SE building with shotguns demanding their money and 30 hours of their life back.

With that being said, ANY GAME decisively made to be condescending and "girly" *shudders* is universally disliked by anyone with mental development greater than the fifth grade. So don't think of these as 'girly games' just think of them as what they honestly are -- meaningless pieces of shit.

Well, now that I've vented my opinion on that --

As I said earlier, in the very patriarchal society we still live in today, people will think that getting pwned by a girl on, let's say, Halo online, as an added insult to injury. Know, however, that this doesn't mean EVERY guy out there is like that -- in fact, I've met several guys that can only be described as gentlemen on such games. When I asked for help in a tough spot -- just as any other guy gamer would do -- they came without ripping on me simply because I have a uterus. Sure, there was a lot of smack-talk, but it's the kind you always find when a bunch of people are in the moment of simulated ass-kicking, so it was all in good fun.

Let me tell ya, the ovaries are not the things pushing the buttons on the controller, people. And if some guys are honestly using their equipment to play.... well then, that's simply quite disturbing, isn't it? There's something seriously wrong with people that play like that.

And as an addendum, the games I most enjoy are the ones that include a good plot, fun characters, and heaping amounts of ass-kicking. Devil May Cry has always -- and will always -- be very, very dear to my heart. And those aren't 'guy games' they're simply games that rock of awesome.

Thank you for reading. =3

This is the absolute truth, from my own personal experiences. Preppy bitches are so concerned with their appearances, they don't know how to have a good time by planting a plasma grenade up the nose of a Hunter. Well, they're loss. Saves more grenades for me. =3

And yes, the people at my high school also pissed me off greatly. When I finally beat DMC3 on Hard mode, there was no one to appreciate my boasting! Can you imagine? It was hell!

To be honest, I find it very attractive if girls play video games. Idk if it has to do with me playing them often so therefore it would sway my opinion or what, but hell yeah if a girl plays video games and loves to have fun like that, then when her competitive nature comes out while she's playing and she shows some attitude when things go good or bad for her on the game.
That is utterly amazing.
Not saying that I'm only interested in girls that play video games and wouldn't give non players a chance, but that is a plus! :)

I like X-2.

I think this thread is very zealous. Times have changed and only archaic individuals are still of the opinion that girls are inferior to boys in any stretch of life. Rants like the one above annoy me because I'm quite tired of hearing it when it has no place any more. No one thinks any less of you if you're pushing buttons and have tits, or any more of you if you don't, and making a song and dance of it on the presumption that people are looking down their noses at you(r online avatar) is a bit silly.

I like X-2.

Really? Amazing. You are then part of a very select group that likes that game. Shortly after I made that post, someone repped me saying that 'X-2 is a fraking awful game'. Its unpopularity speaks for itself.

I think this thread is very zealous. Times have changed and only archaic individuals are still of the opinion that girls are inferior to boys in any stretch of life.

Well, you've obviously never met a misogynist have you? You've never had a religious person say your the spawn of sin. Trust me, archaic individuals exist aplenty, and they filter their opinions down into their children, who will perpetuate such ideas. It's a pretty powerful cycle. And those children go on to get jobs and go to school.... and play games online. So yeah, it is still a problem.

And please, a rant? LMAO that wasn't a rant. I'm not one to go on making pointless rants for the sake of it. Compare it to a real rant, and you'll know. And to be precise, Japanese culture still does hold women in a lower regard -- 'men are more equal' kind of way. That is changing -- of this there is no doubt -- but it's slow going and cultural hierarchy does show in all the various forms of media today. This includes games. So that isn't ranting, that's pure fact.

And the fact that a game that nearly no one likes is being seen as 'girly' just shows that there is a considerable stigma attached to anything feminine, which is considered as weak and unwanted. A car is a girly car if it has pathetic horsepower and design. It's a girly item if it is lame or flimsy. It was this definition of the game called 'girly' that I had a problem with, because really, the game is just bad and unappealing a majority of people. There's still plenty of negative attitude toward the female sex, it's just a lot more subtle now; it's societal, almost none of it is by law. However, women are still paid less than a man doing the exact same work. There's plenty of this around if you just open your eyes and look around. Has there been change? Absolutely, no argument there. Is there still a ways to go before fair treatment is reached? Definitely.

No one thinks any less of you if you're pushing buttons and have tits, or any more of you if you don't, and making a song and dance of it on the presumption that people are looking down their noses at you(r online avatar) is a bit silly.

HA HA no

Let me guess -- you've never been cluster fucked on Halo Online, have you? It isn't a little-known phenomenon. And let me tell you, it's fucking annoying. Going online to have some fun and then getting gang raped by a bunch of gamers just because you have different genitalia is quite belittling and downright mean. It happens all the time to a plethora of girl gamers. And if you truly believe that gamers online don't treat you any differently because of your sex, then you're being simply ignorant. I did not buy a game and pay for online service just to be cluster fucked by a bunch of assholes.

That being said, as I've already made VERY CLEAR in the above 'rant', not all guy gamers online are like this. I've met several that are downright fair and have no other agenda than to play a game and have fun. But those cases are sporadic at best.

It's time to face the fact that yes, there is a double standard in treatment between the sexes and it isn't limited by any medium. It's quite silly to think otherwise. Now, with that wrapped up, if you wish to pursue this line of discussion, than I formally request that you make a separate thread for it. This really isn't the topic of this thread, and it would be spamming to keep on going here. I'll be glad to take you up on another thread or PM if you like. Thank you.

Lol, I love X2. Mainly because it cheered me up when I was going through a really shitty patch in my life.

The online crap you get does get so damn tedious and frustrating at times. I try my best to ignore it. Ive recently started playing Magic the Gathering and Ive seen loads of girls playing it at my local Magic shop and yet you get some men who are like "You play Magic??? Oh, you mean you just watch your boyfriend play right?" Gah, that winds me up always.
