Well... Let's see... Playstation 1 came out in Japan 1994 and 1995 in the US. Playstation 2 came out in 2000 and the PS3 came out in 2006. Nintendo and other systems usually release their new systems around the same time. There is a 6 year difference between each system. Most likely PS4 will come out in 2012. IF THERE IS A PS4... >_> It will probably cost 800 dollars knowing Sony. -__-

Sony will certainly continue to improve their hardware. I can't say for sure that they'll continue with their Playstation line of consoles (though it's probably a safe bet), but they aren't gonna disappear from the industry. There's gonna be more consoles from Sony in the future.

I believe so.What wou;d make Sony stop from creating more Playstations anyway?I strongly believe that there's gonna be a ps5 too,but after many years.I just wonder what else they're gonna add to that console.I see the end of the traditional video games.

I'd say yeah. They had a slow year, but with the release of MGS4 the sales went through the roof...from 10,000 a month to 77,000...meaning games like FF should do great as well.
The system just needs better games, needs more rpg's imo. Sony expected to lose money from the start anyway. They even went out to say they expected to lose over a billion dollars. It is a very rich company anyway, they can afford to try again.
I own all systems so you can exactly call me a huge sony fanboy. But I do indeed like and play the ps3 more then the other systems.

I'll be betting on a yes. Doesn't make much sense to believe they stop now... I guess.....

Well, i suppose they'll stop only when they can produce graphics that look 100% like real people when its actually virtual, lol. By then it'll be a scary age.

Hopefully some genuis will create a totally new kind of game console before that happens but mostlikely the big 3 is just ganna keep coming out with new systems till people stop buying them. as long as the games are good i dun care.

For sure, how many people I know, has a PS3. So I think prolly around 2010 PlayStation 4 will be released hopefully. But yea, you know there will be a 4th one.

It's just obvious as long as the technology is developing that means maybe there will PS4 or maybe PS5, it just Graphics are getting better, processors are faster, so they will make one with the latest technology.

I've heard rumours that it will be 2016 when the PS4 is released which seems reasonable enough to me since 2010 has to be the most absurd date I have ever seen, especially when it takes companies 1-2 years to make games that have amazing depth, storyline etc, and not the crappy ones that are made in a matter of months.

I know in a magazine I had, couldn't say which one it was or if I still have it they said that Sony had bought domains for the PS4 and PS5 though whether they are legit or not I'm not too sure.

i don't think it'll go up to 15 or anything ( if it does i'll hang myself ) but i know that they are planning on getting up to nine but even if they do get it there more or less everyone will be using XBOX ( the XBOX extreme 100080 ) but no matter what i'm sticking with playstation for these reasons

A) the playstation is a very much up to date console and has been very good
B)the controller is probably the best one i'vve ever held and i can't even hold the XBOX ones
C) well, thats realy it, oh yeah, its only the best kind of electrical equiptment ever made, except TV

The PS9 ad isn't real. At the end of the ad you will clearly see "PS2, The Beginning" which is supposed to suggest that the PS2 is the first step towards a futuristic console where games are played via electronic spores. Its just a marketing ploy which has been misinterpreted. In other words the ad isn't for the PS9, but is actually in fact an ad for the PS2. Why would they advertise a console that is going to be released in 2078?

As for a PS4, I definitely think they will develop one however I don't think it will be for a good while. Keep in mind the PS3 was only just released.

I know the ps9 ad isn't real or is it ?

Well my prediction is that the ps4 will be out before 2013 obviously but thats only if they release a ps4.Knowing if nintendo and microsoft release another console which they are then sony releases another.Damn console wars just make one god system thats all you need to stop all this fanboy crap.

i skimmed though most of this article...so sorry if this was already said...but does anyone remember back at the most recent E3 when Sony went up on the main stage and said that they believed in the the 10-year product cycle(not sure if that is the exact wording but close enough)...it means that Sony as a company and the management within it(unless it has changed hands since E3) believe that they need to make money on this system before they release a new one... Sony didn't make any money on the PS2 or PS1 when they were first releases if i remember correctly but they are making butt loads now...it takes a while for a any new product on the market to become profitable to a company. do you think Honda and Toyota were making much money when they releases the first hybrids on the market. of course not but now they are make a ton because they stuck with it and didn't give up on it. i believe it is the same way with the consoles... of course it would be absurd to think that Sony does not people already working on the PS4 but it prob a small deptment right now without much manpower or funding behind it. they are prob putting more towards the ps3 knowing that in the long run it will become very profitable for them... I believe that they will wait and see what the next big thing to come out is...like DVD was for the PS2 and Blue-Ray is for the PS3.

feel free to tear my opions apart on this and if you have not yet seen sonys E3 press confrence it is avavable in the playstation store for free download(if you have one) and it most likely on youtube somewhere i just dont have the time to look for it right now.

Yea, a lot of top tier companies follow a loss-gainer technique of business. They produce advanced technology and sell it at a loss until they have produced enough of it to drive down production costs. Now all of a sudden they're selling advanced technology and gaining profit, not because they reduced the price or increased the sales... but because they got better at manufacturing it.

But yes, I do think there will be a PS4. There is a lot of talk about the next generation of consoles being non-existent because "gaming consoles" are really more of general entertainment devices now. While that may be true, I still think companies are looking to sell hardware. Analysts tend to argue this isn't the case because of the overhead cost involved in designing, manufacturing, and distributing hardware but companies are not what drive industries. Right now consumers are still looking to purchase tangible products. While that is the case, there is no end to console hardware.

Although the ps3 hasnt been as successful as the xbox 360 or wii, the ps2 was more successful than the gamecube and xbox, and there is still a lot of credit given to sony. Anyway, there will always be new consoles comng out, and i find it very hard to believe that sony could go out of business. Consoles tend to run for about 6 years, so i predict 2012 for the next generation. Sony tend not to be very original in naming their consoles so they'll probably just call it PS4

Without a doubt there'll be a Playstation 4. Sony will learn from their mistakes regarding the launch of the PS3, in which everyone knows has been dire. However, if it had a good launch I honestly think they would have sold more than the 360 since they have only sold 5.8 million consoles when at the beginning of the year it was 9 Million+

So they have done well this year. :)
