Hey Everyone.

Got a new PSP 3003 from my Boyfriend for my Birthday and it came with a free download which I picked Final Fantasy VII.

It's been a long time since I played this game so can't remember much.

When I did play it before I got to the part where Aeris decides to run off on her own.

Now I have been told not to get too attached to Aeris but not been told why, Now since shes pretty much the only Mage in the game who else can be a good Magic user?

I was told Yuffie makes a decent Magic/Melee but I don't know for sure.

I also have Crisis Core and Advent Children(not played/watched yet) was told NOT to watch AC til I finished FF7 or atleast got to disc 2.

Anything I should be aware of?

Look at the back of the case and you will see it there. (If you have the PAL version).

If not then I do not know how you have possibly avoided that spoiler being an internet dweller. People mention it a lot of the time and forget to use spoiler tags etc.

I'm not going to tell you as I don't want to spoil it for you, but lets just say she leaves the party for good.

I know she ran off and was saying somthing about she knew what to do but thats about it.
She doesn't become a Rinoa(Runs off every 5 mins) does she?

I don't have the case it's the PSP Store download.

She doesn't become a Rinoa, no. She does run off, but she never does it again.

If you're more concerned about who you should substitute her with as a good magic user, Cloud and/or Yuffie are good bets. As I recall Red XIII has a fairly decent stat in that department as well, maybe even Vincent too (but by the time you get the latter you'll likely have already developed a mage).

Don't worry about asking what Aerith/Aeris does to warrant your friend saying "don't get attached"; just play the game through and find out yourself... just remember not to rely on her for long. :)

Just read the title of the thread. Dont get attached. She will become like the girl that got away, you may never see her again

:(
Why am I not liking the sound of this......
I have played 8,9,10,10-2,11,12 and theres never been a playable thats left the party and not come back....

I both knew why I shouldn't get attached and watched AC before playing the game.
I believe it ruined quite a lot of my enjoyment, so don't be like me!!!
I wonder how you don't remember it though...

As for magic user, I don't really know.
I think, if you train the materia enough, than it is not so much different who will use it.
Of course there is the stat and all, but there are materia which can boost stat anyway (I know at least about HP and MP, not sure about the other stats though).

Just look who have the highest Magic (or whatever it is called in this game) stats and make him the magic user. Though, I didn't really have a "magic user" anyway.
I just let each character to have only one or two elemental magics and the rest were different abilities.
Kind of party in which all characters are more or less balanced and there is no "magic user" or "warrior" characters.

Having a completely safe and fixed party is only really a recent thing.

FF2 had lots of party members coming and going I think.

FF4 also had lots of party members leaving for good at different parts of the game.

FF5 had a party member leave.

FF6 could potentially see some party members leave for good if the player didn't try to find them / save them in the last half of the game.

FF7 was I think the last real game not scared of making a main character leave the party if it fitted the story well.

Yeah, the earlier FF's had people leave for good, so its not new or anything, but the later ones took it out, maybe to add more connection to the player and the characters.

But I said "Hey have fun and stay active"!!
That's a really nice line :gasp:

And quite an odd one, seeing as he's been a member for over a year. :brooding:

Back on topic, aside from the limit breaks that you will miss out on, there will not be much that Aerith could do that other people will not be able to learn themselves. I mean the materia system allows you to equip anything you want to anyone, and you could raise magic stats with those stat up items I believe if you were to come across any, but I don't think the difference is major.

IDk how you would be able to forget what happens, but anyways...

For a magic user, you want someone good with magic who doesn't get as strong as other characters, so that you're not missing out on his attack power... Cloud is a bad choice as a mage simply because he can get so strong... RedXIII is probably the best choice, him or Cid, who comes later... Both have strong magic power and their limit breaks can be rather useful... Cid's ultimate is a multi-hit one it can be useful in battle(that's how i make my decisions on a party, who can hit multiple times with a limit a.k.a. Cloud, Barret, Tifa, and Cid, as far as I remember)... That is awesome, hope this helped!!

because she cheats on cloud with sephiroth :monster:

I was told Yuffie makes a decent Magic/Melee but I don't know for sure.

melee, her ultimate weapon is the easiest to get in the game. Some pretty good limit breaks too.

I also have Crisis Core and Advent Children(not played/watched yet) was told NOT to watch AC til I finished FF7 or atleast got to disc 2.

Burn Advent Children / Sell it immediately after watching it and dont buy DoC unless you want some of the same bullcrap but worse.

Well AC in general and DoC both put the loop holes in the game that made us go .... "so whens the sequel to VII".

Then when Crisis Core came out, it put even more questions in the back of our heads.

Honestly Aerith is a great character, don't mind what your friend says. I would say her and Aerith are the most popular female characters in the game.

I'm not gonna give away the part regarding "party members", although I'm sure the TP has played through it by now.

But as far as the magic users go..., here's the breakdown of some potential candidates:

Cid - Like Cloud, he is incredibly versatile. His stats are all-around solid (nothing weak, nothing too great). Depending on how you equip Cid, he can be a great brawler, a great "mage", or a combination of both. He also has strong vitality, so he can equip a lot of materia and stay pretty "healthy". Consider him your "Cloud light".

Yuffie - She's a big candidate for the "mage" position. While equipping materia would lessen her HP quite a bit, her long-range weapons allow her to perform from the back, so she won't have to take the damage full force anyway. Her magic is very powerful - not far off from the best.

Vincent - A back-row ace. Vincent has strong attack stats, and he's competent with materia. Since his weapons are long-range, you can have him as a back row bomber by switching between attack and magic as you wish. That being said, don't overhaul him with materia, or he'll be useless.

These are your 3 best bets, and you can do with them what you prefer. I think your best "mage" candidate would be Yuffie though.
---
Also, to the post above: Um, what major questions did Crisis Core leave us with? And while AC had problems, it wasn't like it was so left field, nor did it contain any real "loop holes". It took a major focal point of FF7 - the lifestream, and explored its state with the presence of Jenova cells, another focus in FF7.

Welcome back to the pleasure that is FFVII!
As for getting attached to characters, just let the story envelope you again as you immerse in it.
Iirc my main magic users were Red XIII and Cait Sith. Although I didn't use it that much.

You should really play the game out and not really worry about what your friend said. This is a game that will have you guessing till the end,(or atleast until mid disc 2).

In my opinion, your two best bets are Red XIII & Cid as magic users if you want a little muscle versatility. Or Yuffie & Vincent for magic users that deal moderate melee damage from the back row.

I would've recommended Red XIII, but I struggle to do so because he's also a great attacker. Unfortunately, he's all close range (if I recall), so it's an either/or thing for him, and there are other characters (Cid, Yuffie, Vincent) who don't have to struggle with that same thing.
