Playstation Dragon Quest VIII

I love this game. I don't own it myself I borrow games off of my friends and I borrowed this and loved so I'm going to buy it soon. Anyways on topic I still have to beat Dhoulmagus >_> I'm level 30....But the graphics were pretty good seeing as they were anime style I LOVED the story line and characters......Yangus LoL. Angelo or Yangus are my favorites but I love how you can get monster teams and use the Alchemy pot. But I would buy this game in a blink of an eye.

Is this game worth buying? I love all the final fantasy games. Also does the game have any connections to final fantasy for example is the magic called bolt or fire or somthing??

It's not like the modern Final Fantasies, it's more like the earlier ones really. It doesn't have the same names but has all the usual Fire and Lightning spells you come to expect. Think old-school gameplay with a last-gen makeover, depends on what you like but I would recommend it.

Thanks. i might pick it up sometime then. After i'm done with ff12 i guess. Whats the story like?

I love the Dragon Quest Series, I remember playing it when it was Dragon Warrior for the Nintendo ahh most of my middle school down the drain with those games...memories

Dragon Quest VIII is like a throw back to old RPGs if you have played any of the Dragon Warrior Series on the Nintendo 8-Bit this will take you back to memory lane, it's pretty much a standard RPG story line, Kingdom has a curse, Hero comes to save the day and then rescues the princess, I don't want to give the story away ;)

I got the free demo disc off of Squenix's website a few years back when they were Promo-ing it. It looked like it could be a good game, but I never got around to getting my hands on the whole copy. Eh, my bad. I'm too obsessed with the Final Fantasy series.

The story is the usual fare, Hero and his party travel to a town which has a crisis on its hands, they save the day then repeat til the halfway point of the game where the true big bad appears and they travel to beat him etc.

The story does enoguht o keep you interested but it's the characters, graphics and exploring the World Map that really kept me going through this.

I actually beat all the Dragons after a while. After you defeat all of them though, you have to fight them ALL in the same fight. That was a bitch....
........I still haven't beat that yet, and I got the game when it came out.

Sounds good to me. I take it, it has the normal leveling system??

Yeah, characters level up the old-fashioned way. Each character also learns skill points as they level up which they can add to either a weapon class or their own personal thing (Courage for Hero, Humanity for Yangus etc) to earn new skills for them.

Anything else?

Hmm........ok i kinda get it. You level up and get points that you spend on skills/magic/weapons to make them stronger. Sounds like a really fun game to me.

I also loved this game. It was a nice relief to see, that some game developers out there still know how to make a good, nice, LONG, challenging game. I can't wait for DQ9 for the Nintendo DS!!!

Just got this game again through Fleabay, Haven't played in a long time, just waiting out my college days to be over with until I get my PS3 :P

I'm so close to beating DQ 8 just have to do the Dragovian Trials and then I'm pretty much done.

I can't wait for the next DQ game I'll try to get unless I can't.

I just bought this game this week, ive played about 5 hours so far,im enjoying the game,i feel a few things are just a big time waste (like having to go to the priest to ressurect a character and losing 1/2 your money when you die) but im enjoying it so far, i just wanted to hear what you people who have played through the game have felt about it.

I love DQ i bought the game on the day it came out and played it constentley for weeks :P :P It took me a while to finish cuz i wasn't very good at it to start with

This game was a pain. I haven't beaten it yet. But the constant leveling up and stuff. Wow.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King was a marvelous game, and soon after completing it (I have yet to do the Dragovian Trials), I went in search of Dragon Warrior 7. Though I love Dragon Quest VIII, I think Dragon Warrior 7 blows it out of the water. Anyways, my favorite character from VIII was Yangus, and I named the hero Stephen. What I liked most about the game was its difficulty; I kinda rushed through it, so the battles were hard as mess.
