Epic lags of fail

Yup, of the 4 forums not including this one that I visit. This forum is by FAR THE SLOWEST. sometimes I have to double , triple and quadruple click just to make sure it's loading. Plz, get rid of some junk around here and let the new members create some new threads if the crazy amount of threads are what is slowing down this site. I really REALLY love this place. But the only thing keeping me from visiting daily is the fact that this site is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SLOWWWWWW in loading everything. Otherwise I'd be here for at least 3 hours a day maybe more on weekends.

LG's said that FFF is on a dedicated server, and it's the best server money can buy, apparently. So, the server isn't the problem for those who are experiencing lag.
Well, I don't claim to know much about servers, so I might be off in what I'm about to say. A server is running like a computer does, with a motherboard, hard drive, etc etc. Computers in time will lose out on performance, and this can come from many factors. It's quite possible that the server, being the best server around and all, may need to be cleaned out or possibly need a firmware upgrade of sorts. I mean, I imagine it wouldn't be a major issue for LG to at least look into possibly debugging or searching for a reason to which it MAY be running slow.

Yeah, we'd been talking about disabling it for a couple of days and see how the site does without the shoutbox. If it turns out it IS the shoutbox, we did think of other alternatives to it, like chat rooms or something like that. I really don't want to risk losing any activity if we do disable it for a couple of days, so we'd definitely come up with another way for the members to chat.
Well, you could always disable the shoutbox for a 24 hour period or something, this should be more than enough to see if this is the main issue. Due to the erratic nature of the lag, I really couldn't blame the SB for being the issue for the simple reason that at times it's functioned very well with as many as 12 active users and at a busy time of the day. Then on other days, it'll be a very dead time in the day for the forum and SB and yet it lags miserably, the lag tends to be very inconsistent, which makes it tough to decipher what exactly the problem might be. Ju has said that the combination of the SB and Inferno are what cause it to lag. I honestly know nothing about the Inferno so I couldn't tell you if that was possible or not, but I doubt the Inferno would cause such lag either. It's possible that if Ju is right about this, then maybe disable both the SB and Inferno for 24 hours, then maybe the next week, shut one off one day and the other on the next, or something to see if there is a difference there. As far as your concern about losing out on people on the forums due to a temporary shutdown, I highly doubt you'll lose anyone. I mean, most people on the SB on any given day have MSN accounts, so conversing can continue off site. And if it's only for 24 hours, it definitely isn't long enough to drive people out of the site, but it is long enough to see if that is indeed the problem.

Anyways, my thoughts on the matter. I may be on the right track or I'm way off.

The owner of some forums I used to go on said that moving the shoutbox at the bottom of the page actually reduces lag. I don't know if that would work, but it's worth trying...

The lag is beyond a joke. It took 3 minutes for this thread to open. I logged in sucsessfully a few hours ago. Up until then everytime i attempted to get on i recieved the ''server not found msg'
Surely something will be done. Lag can be handled but this is a bit ridiculous.

Yeah I've been logging in and for the first 15 minutes or so it's super fast and then after that every time I try to open a thread or make a post it keeps saying, 'Problem loading page' or something like that.

It's really annoying.

It takes forever just to post sometimes. That little circle thing that goes around when you hit 'post reply' goes around FOREVER! and then doesn't even post half the time. <_<

I'm glad the lag is a wide problem, at least that gives us a bit of solidarity as a whole in trying to work out where the problem lies. It takes me about 10 minutes just to make a single post, and about 5 minutes to even manage to enter the site successfully.

Lag isn't my only problem either. I've also had numerous link problems, where it tells me that my all browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari) can't find the link. I've tried troubleshooting and it still persists.

Usually it takes me to ask.com. As if fff does not exist. Im guessing its the rpg which causes lag. Probadly the most popular thing here so they cant exactly shut it down.

I've been getting this lag for the last day or so. I had to disconnect and then reconnect to the web, and since I've done it so many times for the page to load, it's really a nuisance ): Sorry...

It might be the RPG actually, why not put it on hold for a while? Don't kill me!

I would have to agree with all the posts above, the lag certainly affects my performance on the forum, like Swift said it can take up to 5 minutes to actually post something...it can be rather annoying.

The server should be checked, as well as the RPG and shoutbox i doubt the forum will loose activity if you close the RPG for a day to see if that's the cause of the problem.

It's horrendously bad, it took me 5 minutes to close a thread from the thread page, I didn't have to load anything to do it :( I've just had to give up moderating for the last 2 days or so, it's impossible >.>

could the RPG not be moved to another site though? Or see what happens moving the SB back to the bottom of the page?
SOMETHING needs to be done, I page load errored trying to get into this fucking thread, and Ive been take to Ask as well sometimes trying to get on here I just get more error messages than you can shake a stick at
After the server move, it improved SO much, I was experienced like, the odd Page load error, maybe one a day, if that and zero lag. Then recently, it's just hit welll hard

And it takes the fucking piss :rage:

For the most part I have been experiencing lag, but before I blame it on the inferno or the shoutbox let me point this out. We have bots and guests constently checking out topics from 3 years ago inside of the locked areas. This is going to slow down the loading of the site. Basically what I am saying is maybe it is a good Idea to remove everything in the locked forums from 12/4/08 and back.

I used to use FireFox as my main browser, but because it wouldn't load the site when I first signed up, I moved onto Safari and that had been working extremely well. Seriously, after the RPG went up, it started to lag again and I keep getting page load errors. I'm unbiased in the RPG causing it because I've never played, I don't like it and I don't dislike it either. It is just honestly where I think it's coming from.

I'm getting used to copying my posts before I post them just in case I get a page load error, it's becoming a constant thing. I like being on here, being active and such but it's becoming hard to be.

Also, where the shoutbox should be, it regularly comes up as just a grey box. I don't know if that's a problem as well but just thought I'd mention it.

I’m not usually one to complain, but these lags and other problems have become unbearable now. I have had a broken link and an error in loading up a page. It has taken me 20 minutes to finally be able to type this up. At this rate we wouldn’t be able to be regularly active and new members may be put off from signing up.

I have doubts towards the RPG. It seems that problems have begun soon after it came back online. I don’t know about the shoutbox though. As Kelly said, the RPG can be moved elsewhere, or it can be closed for a trial period so we can see how it turns out. It might upset many people though if the latter is tried out. :hmmm:

EDIT: Weird- it seems to have improved just after I finished posting.

I would actually rather shut down the RPG for a time than I would the shoutbox. It seems like we didn't start getting these problems until the RPG was brought back online...I'm having them like crazy. I'm getting page load errors and everything. This is just getting to be absolute bullshit.

Seems like theres not much support for the rpg at all. If it came down to losing the RPG would it be put to a vote? I can understand its very popular but if you cant actually browse the site due to EXTREME lag. Its all a waste of time.

But there is also the chance that the RPG had nothing to do with the lag. I checked the numbers and most of the guest and bots are checking our archives then you have possible binging from people who were banned and so on.

I'm no expert, but I'm sure that the problems rose ever since the RPG's opening. We can try doing what Eric suggested, though I'm not sure if that will have any impact. Once Lord Golbez returns, we can try and ask him to do that and perhaps do something with the RPG to see where that can get us.

Bots and Guest have been viewing the site since forever though and its not caused problems before. And the RPG recently started up not all that long ago correct?
Timing fits.

I'm thinking if there would be a way to edit the RPG in a way that it would not cause the forum to lag so much...although it's not even confirmed that's the source of the problem, still it can't hurt that much to close it for a day, the RPG as been close for much longer periods then that as i recall.
