Favorite Playable Character

He was totally my hero in this game. He was so passionate about saving the world and fighting to the end, he really had his priorities in line and his concern for Marlene was really touching. Plus I loved his Limit Breaks and his strength--sometimes I like just bashing the random enemies with weapons to get through an area and he was really good about that :D He was always in my favorite party of three, along with Cid and Nanaki ^_^
 
My main team was always Vincent, Cloud and Cid. Cid being my number one favorite. Cid's attitude and grit was refreshing to me in this game. Along with Vincent's stoic personality and Clouds pessimism, it made for an odd rag tag group to play with.
 
I liked Cid, he flew an airship and cussed like a sailor. Plus there is a Cid in like every one of the final fantasy games. [ i think in all of them, unless i missed something somewhere]
 
Aerith was one of my favorites, because she seemed so nice and calm, almost no matter what happened. My 2nd favorite would be Red XIII because I thought his weapons were intresting (He was also the only one who I got all the limit breaks for).
Cloud was one of my favorites because he's just awesome.
 
I like getting Aerith's final? weapon, killing the other two characters, and then watching her kick ass. (with this weapon, her weapon does more damage if your characters have low health)

But in all seriousness, I liked using Yuffie the most. I love long range characters because I can put them in the back row, and I loved her limit breaks. And I also loved her victory pose XD She was my favorite character in the game. I feel that she was the toughest of the three female characters in the game.

I also liked using Cid. I think I just liked his victory pose at the end. And I did like his final limit break.
 
Fucking Barret! He's the most badass character, aside from Cid. He has a machine gun as an arm. :gasp:

I loved all his affection for Marlene. It was like he was a big, scary looking guy, but he was really affectionate inside.

And throughout the entire game, he always made me laugh. Even if it was during something dramatic.
 
Although I hate her whiny little girl persona, I liked playing as Yuffie (when you have to fight through the tower in Wutai to gain her level 4 Limit Break).
I also like the fact that her ultimate weapon the Conformer allows you to deal max damage when morphing an enemy into a source. She is vital if you plan on maxing every character's stats.

I think I made up my mind now,my favorite has to be barett cuz I always like characters usually with big heavy weapons,and the character is also big.

My favorite playable character would be Cid Highwind. I always loved his lines. Plus he had that whole hardened old man thing going but you could tell he was really just a softie. xD

And his monologue about Loveless was classic. :lew:

I like cid highwind also,both cid and barett remind me of cole and baird from gears of war series,ever played them?
 
I'm gonna have to go with Barret. He seemed to really have his shit together and the confrontation with Dyne was badass.

Plus I love his Limit breaks like ungermax and flamethower.
 
I liked Cloud. He is the best character in terms of stats/power, plus his limits are probably the best too.

Those aside, he has a nice balanced personality. He is likeable, he is heroic without being too martyr-ish, he is kind without being corny, he is concise/efficient without being distant.

He is probably the best protagonist of all the FF games. He isn't whiny, or annoying, or a monkey, or a mere child.
 
My favorite playable character is Red XIII aka Nanaki without question. I always found him to be the sickest out of any character that you can use, and I loved learning about him in Cosmo Canyon. Him and Cid would have to be my 2 favorites, Cid is up there because his spears are ruthless. And I found him to be quite hilarious as well.

Red 8 I want to meet this Character in the game I have met Red 13 like but not 8!!! Any way mine would have to be Cloud and Cid there both great in this game!!
 
I would have to say my favorites were between vincent, because he just has awesome style, and also Barett. Vincent was just awesome, and if he wasn't then why did he get the entire Dirge of Cerberus title made about him? It wasn't bad, but it lacked originality as far as gameplay. But Barett is just huge, he has a wicked awesome weapon, and I have just enjoyed his character's style.
 
I liked Cloud because he was the guy I could use both physical and magic attacks and still dominate. He's also a beast when you combine Cover and Counter-Attack materia since his HP is so high to begin with. I also like his limit breaks. Tifa and Cid would be in my primary party, too. I like how Tifa's limit breaks chain together and Cid's just funny.
 
Don't get me wrong guys, Cloud is cool and all, but don't you think hes a little overrated? He is just a super emo kid, who is just overpowered. He looks like a rip off of all the bad animes from the time the game was made, and he's just as overhyped as most of them. I don't really see the fascination with him. I'm curious if anybody can tell me why he is soo popular. If anything, I would definitely choose Sephiroth, because he is a ONE WINGED ANGEL, he is such a badass, and I honestly that's soo much more awesome than Cloud.

Have you played VII? He wasn't emo, imo, and the only time he was sad was when Sephiroth tricked him into thinking that he was just a Hojo product. You're probably just thinking about the AC/KH/Dissidia Cloud Strife who just walks around and mopes a lot. If you want my personal opinion on why Cloud's my fav, then here it is:

He's a flawed protagonist. You didn't have that with mainstream heroes in the 90's. The fact that he had to face the revelation of his false identity, rise above it, and conquer Sephiroth just screams "awesome". This is a character who failed to qualify for some uber Shinra program but still managed to defeat Sephiroth 3 times in the canon when Genesis and Zack failed to do so. Plus, not one, but TWO girls fell for him! :awesome:

As for him being "overpowered", there's the story explanation and gameplay explanation.

1) He's been trained by the Shinra Military Academy and even qualified for the physical entrance exam for SOLDIER. Cloud was also exposed to mako and Jenova cells, thus, having the same (if not greater) treatment than the average SOLDIER. His physical attacks are more powerful as a result of this, but the fact that he's using a sword that clearly weighs over 100 lbs. adds detrimental damage. Being a member of Shinra's army, Cloud must have had practice with materia and had instructors teach him how to use it to its highest potential. Hence, why his Magic stats are very high.

2) Cloud Strife is Final Fantasy VII's protagonist and hero. By default, he must have the ability to stand up to the primary villain (Sephiroth). The game also forces the player to use Cloud at least 90% of the time. Not only does this automatically make him level up quicker than any other party member, but it wouldn't make any sense for Square-Enix to force you to use an average character to play the game.

Here's another reason why I don't consider Cloud to be overpowered: he's not the most powerful character in the game. Here's two individuals off the top of my head who are arguably more powerful:

Sephiroth - sure, he lost 3 times, but his base stats are much higher and his HP and damage values are stronger than anything your party has. Add the fact that he can evolve to multiple forms makes him that much more formidable than a human being (SOLDIER or not). I dare you to try and fight him without healing materia/items.

Chaos Vincent - just Youtube the last cutscene for Dirge of Cerberus.



That's my defense for Cloud. If you can provide a reasonable rebuttal, then more power to you. Don't call him overrated just because he has fans. I will agree that Cloud was emo in his appearance outside of the original game.
