I noticed there wasn't a topic on favourite music from the game, so I thought I should start one. What are your favourite music pieces from FFVI is my question to you. You can name as many as you want. You can make it a top 10 list if you want, or mention a few tunes you love and say why you do. It's up to you.

Here are the ones that stood out for me and why:

Terra's theme (and its other versions/remixes) - A very gentle and touching tune. I just can't help but love it, and I think it suits the game and the character of Terra well.

The Magic House (Jidoor and Owzer's mansion in WoR)

A pretty dramatic theme. Complements a spooky mansion perfectly. It's rather catchy too.

Battle theme and Boss theme

I love pretty much all battle and boss themes from FF games and these ones are no exception. I love fast paced combat music. (they're great to listen to whilst running/jogging too)

Another World of Beasts (The esper theme music)

One of the most atmospheric tunes in the game that gives you the goosebumps. Also tends to play during revelation parts about the esper world and espers.

Phantom Train

A great catchy tune for a great part of the game, with a certain mysterious feel to it.

Gogo's theme and Strago's/Thamasa village theme

The reason I combined these two is because I like them for the same reason. They're sort of uplifting and comical sounding catchy tunes.

Searching for Friends (WoR world map theme after getting an airship)

A very suiting track to the reunion of good friends and determination to change the world back for the good. It really touches me when I listen to it.

The Last Dungeon (Kefka's Tower theme)

For those parts of the game you need a dramatic tune, and this tune fulfils its role perfectly. This is when you realise "This is it! The monsters are gonna get a lot tougher and there will be bosses on every step. One mistake and you die!"

Shadow's theme

A mysterious sounding tune for the mysterious character.

There are other great tunes, but this post is taking too long, so I'll just list them. Others I like are: Celes' theme, Figaro castle, Overture (Opera house bit), Forever Racheal, Under Martial Law, Phantom Forest, Spinach Rag (Auction house theme I think), Fierce Battle (bosses in Kefka's tower I think, or might be just the Warring Triad fights), etc.

What's yours?

All of them:P.
But a few of my favourites are probably:

Kefka's Theme
Fits Kefka perfectly; amusing, mysterious, just plain weird.

Edgar and Sabin's Theme (Figaro Castle)
Still the best music played in a castle in any FF.

Locke's Theme
My favourite character of the game, this running throughout the first multi-battle with the moogles was just the perfect way to start the proper game.

Johnny C. Bad
Just... awesome.

Phantom Forest
Forest themes are generally great in any FF, so this one was always bound to be good. It will fit in with any forest, dungeon etc. of any FF.

Battle to the Death
Just made the battles vs the Gods and the Weapons just that extra special. Best battle theme in the game.

I’m a huge fan of all of the character themes in this game, and most of the other themes too. I can only list a few for the sake of making sense, so here goes with some of my favourites, though not all of them.

Gestahlian Empire and Troops March On:

I loved this theme during cutscenes with the Gestahlian troops or Gestahl himself. I found it very militaristic but also quite quirky. There was something odd about it which I liked. It didn’t just sound like a military theme, but it sounded like a military theme for an empire which had some badass generals and officials.

Figaro / Edgar and Sabin’s Theme and Coin Toss:

Edgar and Sabin had great character stories and the theme tunes for them were great. Coin Toss in particular really captured a significant scene.

Phantom Train:

I LOVED the sequence on the train. Being served dinner by ghosts, and having a little ghost buddy join the party for a short while… It was great, and this explanation of the afterlife was pretty funky and steampunk orientated, and is overlooked or underappreciated by Final Fantasy fans.

Forever Rachel (sometimes called Rachel’s Theme):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwT_wT6CgsE
A beautiful piece for a minor character, but a very crucial moment for Locke. You can hear a lot of sadness in this tune, and you can really see into the life Locke once had before we even met him in the game.

Metamorphosis:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5TMnpb8ZSM
At crucial parts of the game this played, such as the destruction of the world. I loved it for being dramatic and apocalyptic.

Gau’s Theme :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fR7musjvdTk&feature=related
This theme wasn’t what I would have expected for a feral child, but I think it really fits well with Gau. He has a sad story, and while jungle or animal / wild sounds in a theme tune would have been more expected, it is better that he instead gets more of an emotional theme tune, reflecting everything but his feral nature and looking into the child underneath.

Cyan’s Theme:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxlXuI98NPw&feature=related
I adore this theme. Like many other characters he has a sad story, but his is one which we see unfold not just during the course of the main storyline, but on our first meeting with Cyan. Cyan went through so much, and this theme to me reflects his sadness, but more so how he remains honourable and brave, and loyal to his kingdom even though everyone else is dead.

Locke’s Theme:

A really inspiring track. Heck, it makes me want to run out of my house and climb down a mineshaft or up a mountain looking for treasure.

Blackjack:

This is a great theme for an airship in my opinion. It really does sound as if you could chill out in the lounge of this ship, gambling and drinking martinis. The atmosphere created by this track is really fitting for one of the most exciting airships (and one of the most exciting airship pilots) in the Final Fantasy series.

In fact… Pretty much any track from that game sparks something in me.

I like all the music, but there are certainly some that stand out more to me, for starters.

Dancing Mad.
I absolutely adore this theme, it's just great in every single way. Although I do prefer the black mages version.

Terra's Theme.
It's actually quite calming, it just works well i'd say.

Battle Theme.
I like the battle theme, despite how repetitive it can get it's still quite fun to listen to during battles.

Save Them.
This is played during the field part of Narshe (I think, it's been awhile) and i've always liked it. It sets the mood really well.

Apart from that i'm not really sure, as Dan said each one tends to spark something, but certain ones stand out more than others.

Hm... When I think of the good pieces from this game... I immediately think of 'Dancing Mad', the final battle theme from the game. I remember clearly how I came to that part of the game, and I actually sort of prolonged the final boss' life just to hear more of the song! :D

Man. Good memories. Thinking further, I think the Ruined World theme is quite nice too. It really brings out the feeling of ruination and depression. Tsk. I'm so going to re-listen to all these pieces again.

Nice choices, guys. I often feel the same during the game, when I intentionally wait around just so I can hear a certain tune for longer (though probably not in the final boss battle :D).
I certainly forgot to mention Metamorphosis. That tune was still playing in my head that night I got up to the world destruction scene. The music was just as impacting as the scene itself.
I would agree. There isn't a bad tune in this game. All tunes to some degree can get you thinking or feeling something.

Personally, I had to go through my iTunes to figure out which songs I like the most. Here is what I came up with:

Locke's Theme - This song, IMO, makes you feel a bit hopeful about things to come in the game. Perfect song for who I consider the leading male of the game.

Shadow's Theme - I agree with the above in it helping to give more mystery to Shadow. I love it because you always know that Shadow is around when you hear it (he's my second favorite character).

The Veldt Theme - I love the tribal sound to it. And as far as I know, the Veldt the first world map area that has a unique song, different from the rest of the world map.

Terra's Theme-This is easily the best characters theme from an FF ever.........one of my favourite tunes as well. It's just the sort of tune that you'll never forget in your life..........

Boss Battle theme- Another tune which that I'll never forget........whenever you face a boss you really get in the mood all because of the tune.

Shadow's theme- well you guys seem to say that it was kinda mysterious..........But for me personally whenever I hear it it just reminds me of how badass shadow really is.

"He'd slit his mama's throat for a nickel" lol

"He'd slit his mama's throat for a nickel" lol

I lol'd at that part. :lew:

Terra's Theme: This is by far one of my favorite FF tunes ever. I could sit on the world map screen for ages just listening to it. It's one of the few things that makes traveling on the world map bearable.

Boss Theme: Battle themes are always some of the best music in FF games and this one is no different. I love the way it starts off; it gives you that sense of danger and urgency that should accompany a boss battle.

There are a few more tunes that I know I like but it's late and I can't remember the name of them. I'll add to the list later. :lew:

Darkness and starlight is the best ff6 music,it was rearranged by the Black mage(the group of nobuo uematsu),it is the music from the opera scene mix with the theme of terra !

My favorites would have to be Cyan's Theme, song played during the Opera, and Celes's theme. I also enjoyed Terra's theme and numerous others, though.

I like all of the songs from nearly all of the FFs, so I really can't name all of them.
But I can say that I really like a few songs from the Dissidia FF OST, especially Cosmos. The song was composed beautifully.

My favourite is probably Locke's Theme - Suits him so well, I like Under Martial Law sounds like it would being in FFVII for some reason, Probably because it sounds like the Coral song, and Terra's them i love because it has final fantasy VI written all over it
