Fan Fiction Fellow Writers - Come Chat!

I tend to do a lot of writing, especially recently. I've been on a real poem spree more than anything. Though I mostly write short stories and novels...

People may read the story, but some choose not to comment. I know some people do the same with me. Instead they may tell me in another form such as a PM or on MSN. :hmmm:

I used to get annoyed with the same thing, but now I'm not too bothered about it. xD

Thank you, Faith. I'll keep it in mind. At the moment, I'm working on my second chapter.

I'm considering posting a story I wrote for my Creative Writing class a few months ago. I had to keep it under three pages... and wrote six instead! :P I can never seem to suffocate a good idea to fit page restraints. It has lots and lots of Body Horror, so it may not appeal to most readers that don't have a strong stomach. ;P It reads really choppy though, since I didn't really have the time or space to really flesh it out...

Alright, next chapter is out! Click on the link of my sig or look for it in the Fan Fiction section.

Do any of you listen to music to inspire your writing?

I find that to be a huge aid when I'm stuck. When I know what it is that I want to write, I try to find a song that fits that mood.

Sometimes. FF themes sometimes hit my head when I get stuck. Usually certain FFII themes.

I do too much visual writing, so I usually have to hear a certain song when I'm writing a particular part of the chapter.

I'm still doing FFF Crisis III, but I'm thinking of putting it on hiatus for a bit. Haven't gotten very much inspiration for it lately and I'm currently putting together two new FFF-esque projects.

I usually write with soft daydreamy music. Evanescence and Sigur Ros are my two bands that I listen to. They take me to that place where you shut off all senses and just focus on what you're writing...

Do you try to build your characters around people you know?

Obviously, the main guy in my story as of now is based on Nick (name and all xD) but, I always try to gear my characters around people I know. Ironically, the main girl always ends up being like me. :wacky:

Of course, .Kairi. In fact, basing your characters on people you know is a well-known and nearly always-practiced technique for writing. By basing your characters on people you know, you make them more consistent and therefore more realistic.

I'm basing the main character of my book largely on a good friend of mine who always cracks people up but with a good dose of my own tendency to make snarky one-liners.

Sorta like this trope

Hmmm, this is an interesting website. Thanks for posting it.

And i LOVE the description they have on Crazy Cat Lady. :8F:

Graders completely missing the point of my poetry is grinding my gears. You'd think a poem titled "Spaghetti Poetry" with a The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly theme would be a blatantly obvious reference to spaghetti westerns, but apparently that's too old fashioned for her. She actually questioned what my poem had to do with noodles.

Blagh... For about two weeks, I've been really wanting to get back into writing...

Original works, or FanFiction, it doesn't matter to me. I'm currently doing a CloudxTifa project on Fanficion.net and it's slightly getting me back into shape I hope. I've just been dying to want to write a multi-chap. It just helps me get my mind of things.

Thing is, I've come to realize that lately. I lack the inspiration to think of any plot lines whatsoever.

What do you guys do when this happens?

I've been doing a CloudxTifa one as well and it's up now, called The Guardian's Legacy. :yay:

I generally don't really struggle with plotlines, it's more of a case of where to begin with them for me. If I don't know where to start, I suppose I go and watch some TV or read a book to help. I see a certain plot and how it unfolds, so it gives me motivation to do my own.

Hope it helped!

I got to agree with Lightning on this one. Most of my stories were inspired by other things, like DBZ or Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. Just relax and have fun. Take a little break every now and then. Sometimes, I lie on my bed just thinking about possible plot twists, character appearances, etc. and see what crazy idea I come up with.

I'm not much into CloudxTifa stories, but I'm rooting for you.

Great ideas. Something I do to get the juices flowing is I simply listen to music. I use the sound of the music to move the plot along in my head and then put it down into words. Where happy songs could be for just a normal day, or something heavy could be an action part, the sound really helps. Hope it helps you!

Genesis Awards for Final Fantasy Fanfiction

Hey folks. I've been absent for a long time, so I hope this isn't spamming, but I'm trying to get the word out to Final Fantasy X fanfiction writers and readers.

The Genesis Awards for Final Fantasy VII Fanfiction is holding its annual awards.

This year they've opened a separate section for FFX fanfiction, in addition to the ever-popular FFVII.

Problem. Not many FFX authors know about it. I'm about the only non-judge, non-staff member who's nominating outstanding FFX stories that I think deserve some recognition.

They need more FFX Fanfiction nominations. So if you read or know of some good FFX fanfiction, please please please take a moment to go to their Nominations Forum, grab a form from any of the FFX threads, fill it out and recommend a good fic! If you don't want to register for their site, just copy the form, pick a category and mail your nomination to:
Genesis.awards.admin@gmail.com

I'm just an ordinary writer like you folks, but I'd love to see more great fanfiction get the credit it deserves. The FFVII contest seems to be well in hand -- there's more fic written about it since the Compilation came out recently -- but I want FFX fandom to get some kudos too!

The FFX Fanfiction Nominations Deadline is MARCH 31st.

If you wanna find/browse FF fanfic worthy of nomination, you can look for it on Fanfiction.net, Archive of Our Own or Livejournal. Or even check older parts of this forum for those hidden gems!

Very interesting competition here! Thanks for posting it and I'll try to check it out, but I can fairly assure you I'll have nothing to do with the FFX fanfiction.

There is a reason why I love this Penny Arcade cartoon so dearly.
