Few Questions about FF8...

Go to whatever GF has the card thing, then you should be able to click that ability, then be able to select cards
Weapon upgrading shouldn't be your main focus at an early part of the game. Furthermore, the AP you grinded in battles to get the ability will technically be wasted away, since you only have 2 or 3 guardian forces (GF) at the moment. Those APs could have been invested on more GFs (you will collect more GFs in the future).
(Anyway, @Vircon, it's not done that way. To use the card mod ability, in the menu, go to 'abilities', select 'card mod'.)
What I personally think is quite beneficial is to draw and stock as much magic as possible from monsters. i.e. 100 units for each magic. And then junction them to your stats. Let yout GFs learn the more important junction abilities first, such as HP-J and Str-J, so you can junction and improve these crucial stats. Learn other abilities such as GFHP+10%, SumMag+10%, Doom, Mad Rush, etc later on.
This game will be extremely easy if you constantly draw and junction new magic as you progress along the game. Even though drawing takes up a lot of time, if you like to maximize stats at frequent stages in the game, I think it will be worth it.
There are also 'missable' GFs that can only be drawn from certain bosses (or else, you have to draw them from final dungeon bosses, which waste away their early game potential). Lesson learnt is, check the draw menu for each and every boss and monster to see if they have new magic or GF in them.

Where are you in the game right now? Timber? Or are you still in the Balamb area? Check your items. Do you have an item called 'Magical lamp'?
It's name is Diablos by the way.
I just entered the forest and am half way through the laguna dream thingy Im on my way back to the garden, and yes I do have the lamp.
Then just use the lamp, fwi draw use Demi on Diablos when you fight him
Oh I read the guide and I thought it had to be done at a certain place ??? so I can do this at anytime to get diablos, thanks.
Yeah you just have to use the lamp whenever you want in your inventory. There's just a certain point where you can't get the lamp from Cid anymore. He's not hard, like Vircon said just draw demi from him and use it on him.
Just remember Selphie's Full Cure will work wonders to if you wind up in a pinch. It can be a life saver if you keep pushing his fight off till later. In fact with just how fast he can be it would be best to keep her on a healing duty only, and whoever else your using should use demi or any high damage gf's.
