Okay, I am not sure if this is the right forum, but looks like the best possible choice soooo...
I am having trouble installing Final Fantasy VIII on my PC, or rather the lack of installing.
(For reference: I am running 32-bit Vista)

So I put in the disc and come to the start up menu where it gives me the options to install the game, directx6.1, open a useless readme file, and Exit. I click install it seems to be loading because the swirling circle is next to my cursor, but nothing happens, I go to my Task Manager and low and behold there are a bunch of SETUP.exe files in processes, (not that they are open or I can open them from the processes list or anything).

I just dunno what to do, I have dun a hell of a lot of googling and yet I have found just about nothing related to my problem.

Anyone with a similar problem or a solution?

Vista is probably blocking it from starting up and it won't give you the prompt to accept it open or not, so what you do is....

1) Right click the setup.exe file
2) Select "Run as Administrator"

and you should be good, I hate vista for that reason.

Make sure you have no other programs running as well, make the install faster and safer, like close any instant messengers, internet browsing programs, etc.

If not, then its probably not compatible with Vista then and only XP :(

Unfortunately, I have already tried all the Vista tricks, and I got nothing, but I have seen videos and such of people running FFVIII on Vista (without an emulator)

Hmmm, maybe your antivirus? try disabling your antivirus completely...

or when its trying to load the file and it has the spinning circle and it doesn't load nothing and still a spinning circle try Alt+tab to see if it tabs to the prompt to accept it of some sort.

Ah I found the problem I think, I was putting the compatibility on XP SP2, when it should 2000, and then select run it as admin, wierd thing is I had to do it for both the Startup and Setup exe's
