FFIV: Love it or Hate it?

"Grow up dont play those game wich has rubbish graphics"

When will these idiotic kids who grew up with Halo and all those other fancy shmancy grapichal games learn that graphics don't make the game.

FFIV could have been drawn in stick figures and the game would still rock!

FFIV could have been drawn in stick figures and the game would still rock!
I even remember when FFIV DS came to NA Squre had some competition where you have to explain why FFIV is great... I won the competition saying that its not the graphics what makes the games it's the epicness of the story.
nowadays all games consentrates on the graphics which makes the story... well you know what I mean.

I'm not a fan. IV is probably the second weakest FF title I've played in the main series (the first being the most recent piece of garbage). The story, in my opinion, was... nothing. It wasn't good or bad to me because there were things I liked and things I disliked.

I loved Cecil's conflict at the start of the game, it was something I could feel, but as soon as he swiched for the Paladin armor, the game kinda went downhill for me.

My party always felt underpowered, which I suppose is my fault, but I never had that problem before I played IV, and still haven't.

But the thing that I hated the most was the twist ending.
Cecil's brother being Golbez was okay, but the thing that annoyed me was that the very same scene he discovered it, Golbez and FuSoYa run off together to the moon to fight the final boss, who I didn't even know was the final boss until that point!
It just kind of felt like rushed storytelling.

Otherwise, the story was okay. There was nothing remarkable about it besides the before mentioned story of redemption for Cecil. Rubicante was my favorite character, if only because he healed the party before battle and I thought that was unique/neat.

It wasn't a bad game, and I didn't hate it perse, but it certainly wasn't on par with the other FFs I've played.

I didn't love it or hate it, but i certainly enjoyed it. Defiantly a fun little game worthy of at least one play through.

I loved this game for a couple reasons. 1. It was my first ever FF. 2. I've never heard music quite as good as this.

It was an epic game, worth getting, great story, pretty good graphics for it's time. Some good twist and turns here and there (especially with Kain and Golbez)

I grew up in a poor family. It took my dad three years to buy me a Super Nintendo. Until that point, I was playing with a TurboGrafix 16 (which I loved to death) and a used, shoddy 8-bit NES.
I finally got a SNES for Christmas though. I loved 2-D platformer games mostly, like Mario and Donkey Kong. Then someone lent me Secret of Mana. One thing to note, I didn't speak much of any English back then. I could get the jist of things, but I had a very hard time. So I couldn't read everything, and didn't understand what an RPG was. I didn't get all that stuff about leveling up, or statistics and all. I never finished the game. Some time after that, it was A Link to the Past, which I also loved, and managed to finish. Both games were lent to me. (I did beat Secret some years later)

Anyways. After playing those games, I was all obsessed about RPG's, and wanted more. One Christmas, since we were poor, the only presents I got were from charity. (which included some Tiger Electronics basketball game) But my dad promised that a few days later, he'd take me out to get a game.
So it was a frozen early January evening, where he took me to the pawn shop and told me to pick one game. What do I see? Some jackass actually pawned off a SNES copy of Final Fantasy IV. (known as Final Fantasy II) I had heard of that franchise, with my new found interest in the RPG, but I didn't know anything about it. I took that for 25 bucks.

I thought that this game was going to be like Zelda, or SoM. But it wasn't at all. Active time turn based...and crappy graphics. I was sorely disappointed. Really. My friend and I were playing, but I had little interest. She made it to the Myst Dragon and beat it. I was like, yay. Dinner was on. My friend, who lived one or two buildings down, went home. I had dinner. Went back to my crappy game.

Alone on a cold Winter night, I was playing...naming Cecil ''Goro'' and Kain ''Motaro'' for some reason...messing around.
After a bit in the caves after Kaipo though...it all clicked in. This was awesome. I didn't understand how the game worked, or even what gaining levels meant, plus I could hardly read the story...so you can imagine, I had a very hard time. But out of nowhere, I was having a hell of a blast.
Being on Christmas vacation, I was allowed up late, and played and played, that night, and months on end after. This was going to be the genre I would forever love. Final Fantasy IV was a pivotal moment in my gaming life. While I loved games for a long time before that, this one really made me obsessed.

Beating this game took me forever. Scarmiglione (known then as Milon) was, as funny as it sounds, my biggest ordeal. I didn't know what levels were as I say, and I didn't know that zombies could die easily by fire and cure spells. But Milon forced me to learn. Battling against his first form, I fell, I fell and I FELL until I was almost crying and ripping my hair out. Damn ''Lit2'' retaliation.
Finally I got it...I started learning levels, and went out to gain some...and I learned what killed zombies, and faced the fact that my sword could do nothing...I finally beat him. (relying on the ''Twin'' ability, mostly)

It was then that I learn the importance of saving one's progress. Anyone who has played this knows what I'm talking about, when it comes to the true form of Scarmiglione.

Anyways. The road was hard, and while I started out as a little seedling without hope, some day, a day I never thought to be possible, I finished the game. My friend, who beat Rydia's dragon on that cold Winter evening, was with me to the end, standing by my side as I fought the physical manifestation of hatred, Zeromus. It took me a few tries, but I felled him.

RPG's were my thing, due to FFIV. And what a great game to have to be introduced to the genre. At least for me. I had never seen a story like that one, with all its plot twist and character growth. (although some could have used a bit more, but it seemed perfect to me at the time) having a hard time with English, it took me a few playthroughs to get everything, but I did.

Of course, emotional factor isn't the only thing that makes me love it. By today's standards, I admit, I get a little bored playing it sometimes. It's very linear. But it's still a whole lot of fun mostly, and I don't get tired of visiting the story, the world, and hanging around with my main chicky Rydia. And while the graphics turned me off at first, I always did love the enemy designs. Maybe not the perfect game, but I've seen much worse.

FFVI is my favourite FF game, which I got for my birthday. I also have a very emotional attachment to it, it being my second RPG to finish. But that's another story haha.

But aye aye, I love FFIV, no doubts about that. To this day, I still play it regularly. Ports, remakes, wtv, I own all of them that were released in the Western Hemisphere, and it owns my heart.

Final Fantasy IV is the greatest game I have ever played. This game was absolutely amazing. I was addicted to hours on end. I could not stop playing. The music was just so AWESOME. The awesome bass line to the incredible battle theme, the boss battle themes, and my personal favorite: the overworld theme. I loved every single character. The epic storyline took me to so many great environments, from the epic underworld to the wonderful moon. Whenever I play an RPG, I find myself comparing it to FFIV, and they never give me the same entertainment as it. Games just aren't the same as they used to be, with the vast majority being generic shooters. Final Fantasy IV is a true work of art, a masterful story that rivals any great piece of literature.

Of course I love it Why?... well I remember before FFIV I played FFVII then one day I got FFIV to my GBA all my friends and my brother said allways "Grow up dont play those game wich has rubbish graphics" but FFIV was so epic that I could not stop playing it and know I am happy that I did not listen to my brother and my friends even thought they still call me kid cuz I play games which has "Shitty graphics". That is my FFIV story,

Don't listen to them.

If they think pretty graphics is what makes a game, they are the childish ones.

FFIV is awesome, no wonder it still sells well :awesome:

I love Final Fantasy IV. I prefer the remakes because the graphics keep me entertained when I have to level grind, not to mention spell names are way easier to understand, but all in all good graphics or not the game is great. I was hooked into the story mainly after the Paladin part. I love pretty much all of the characters, my favorites being Edge and Rydia. Final Fantasy IV ties with VII for my favorite games in the series.
I still play Final Fantasy IV repeatedly, I'm surprised I haven't gotten bored of it with how much I've played.

I just beat the game. Of all the Final Fantasy games I've played through this one is truly amazing and that is saying something.

I found a copy of the FF Chronicles

for the PS that included FFIV and Chrono Trigger at a local store so I went ahead and bought it.

I can play it on my backwards compatible PS3.

I've just started it .It seems ok but seems to lack the magic of FFVI for example or of course FFVII.

It is still new to me and I don't feel the bonds that I feel with the other games thus far.
I hope my feelings will change.:jon:

I bought it for the SNES (as FFII) a few months ago and played it almost non-stop until completion a few days later! Zeromus was a worthy final boss as I had to level up a little bit because he kept killing me. Although I feel the next two installments improved on it in various ways, this is certainly a great game and one that I look forward to revisiting in the future.

Nearly a perfect game, and the reason I fell in love with the series. If it weren't for FFIV, I doubt I'd be here today.

I've probably replayed it more times than any other game, ever. The fact that I can list, in order, and from memory, every single boss in the game should tell you how much I love it (and how little I got laid as a young teen).

And the music...my GOD the music...

HAHA this game was my favorite... the twists and deceit and everything about it was just amazing... played every version accept the psp

First ATB

It is super mega awesome, I loved this game. It was tough as hell though :D

I remember getting this game for my 8th birthday, and I still have the same cartridge on my shelf. Played it nonstop that day. I feel bad for the kids that came to my birthday party that year, because they had to play second fiddle to this great game. :P Haha. Love it, definitely.

I just bought the complete collection a couple days ago and started it. I'm not too far in (only about 6 or 7 hours), but man this is turning out to be a really good one. The story and characters hooked me right away, and the only reason I stop playing is to charge my dang PSP (my battery dies horribly fast).

Love it. More than any other FF game. It was my favorite when they first launched the PSX version in Europe and I loved it since then.

Final Fantasy 4 is arguably the best Final Fantasy they made. It has by FAR the best characters (Kain being my favorite FF character ever). All characters are fully fleshed out, with their own personalities, story arcs, strengths and weaknesses. Cecil is the best FF protaganist ever, starting as one of the bad guys (with epic music playing in the intro) but he renounces his evil and becomes a paladin in one of the greatest scenes in FF History. Other scenes, like the big "OH CRAP" moment when Cecil washes ashore on Mysidia, are truly memorable as well. The characters MADE this game (also I had a huge crush on Rydia when I was a kid), but also has the best music of the series. The boss music is the best boss battle theme in Final Fantasy, and the music in the intro that becomes Cecil's theme is very moving. All the music is fitting and really moves the story. Only complaint: This game is one of the hardest Final Fantasy's they made... but I still play it because I LOVE this game, and in my mind, FF4 is THE definitive Final Fantasy in the series.
