I wasnt a big fan, I felt the story was a bit too pushed and could have been more flowing than it was...left a negative taste in my mouth, but all in all it wasnt a bad final fantasty title I just felt they burned most of there good ideas out after FF7 and kinda rushed this one out to keep up the hype levels after FF7's massive success....

VIII is one of my favorite FFs. i agree with another poster that said it takes some getting used to. my first time through I barely had a grasp on the weapon and junction system, but on subsequent playthroughs i realized how deep, customizable, and fun it could be.

i agree that the characters aren't as interesting as those found in some other FFs, but doesn't mean that they're uninteresting either.

overall i just really like the atmosphere and world it presents. one of the better soundtracks imo as well.

I love this game, is still my favorite(tied with VII).
It was my first RPG so it holds a special place in my heart, I played it at least ten times.
The only weak point is the poor character development specially of some that had great potencial(Quistis,Edea,Seifer etc).

I liked the idea of it, the moving SEED garden, the soldiers, the sorceresses... but like Cloti (fab user-name by the way) said, the character developement was just poorly done. I just couldn't get over that, and so, it's not really a favorite of mine. Like. At all. :holyshit:

I love this game. I had played this game so many time just because I loved the storyline that they had with Squall and Rinoa. The junction system at first was annoying but as I played more, it didn't bother me. I thought most of the battles gave a good challenge for me and I did enjoy using the limit breaks as well. The graphic were amazing to watch and the music was enjoyable.

I hate it with a passion. And i can't even use the "coming after FFVII" excuse either because i played it as i was playing FFVII. To keep it breif (for now)

the characters have pathetically weak backstorys, almost to the point of non-existance,
The battle system is horrible - it's just GF GF GF GF heal GF GF GF
The main villains totally random, and isn't even in the first 3 disks.
The only thing i like about the story - the Rinoa=Ultimecia theory, isn't even considered canon by some people.

I thought that the characters had lots of back story. Remember when they were at the orphanage and Squall was a kid, along with the other members.

Last time I checked the main villian didn't show up until the last disk in FFIX either??? Garland.

Anyways... I loved the game. I thought the story was fantastic. The characters actually develope as the game goes on. Squall actually feels attacted to Rinoa by the end of the game. I did have ONE tiny problem with the game, the junctining system... a bit confusing eh???

Final Fantasy VIII was the first game of the series that I played and this is what started my love for the Games so I would have to say I love Final Fantasy VIII. It's just great!

:highfive:

IT has a very TOuching deep story line to it from the eorphange to figuring out the soceree eda was there carer to have fought her a few times and what not been a while since i player i will start it again as that and FF9 are the only ps1 games from the series i own atm Not to mention 9 is the non platnium version.

well, i liked the graphics for back then, but it was soooo hard! the first crab robot boss was sooo hard i had to get my bro to help me beat it!

This game is great, it's the kind of game that you wouldn't mind playing over and over again. I started from the start three times.

I love this game, it has always been one of my faves. I loved the draw system(uber easy to boost your stats), the GF's were a really cool use of the summon system, and plainly Gunblade to me personnaly is the coolest weapons EVER!

Also I really liked all the characters.

i am really in the middle
something about it the story was good
but i didn't like the junctioning system

over all its alright but not the best

I love FF8. The problem a lot of people seem to have with it is when they say 'The main villian doesn't appear till the end of the game.' Yes we don't physically see her till the flashback in space of Rinoa going into the coma but Ultimetica is present throughout disc 1 and 2 in Edea. FFVII has a similar thing in that we don't see the real Sephiroth till the end of the game but no one seems to bring this up. My only problem with FF8 is I feel it could have focused on backstory more. However I feel the world is one of the most realistic in its history and development. Its towns and scenery are beautiful. I love the character designs, music and story. The personality's of the characters could use more backstory but overall I liked the personalities.
My fave FF overall.

I love FFVIII, and it is my no. 1 favorite game of all, I've play it over and over and over again, still no even feel boring.

Stevie Nicks-
The battle system is horrible - it's just GF GF GF GF heal GF GF GF

What so horrible about the battle system? It's about how do you plan your battle strategy, You have the right not to summon and then heal, you can just attack and cast magics too, nothing wrong with the battle system, seem fine to me, I seldom summon GF, I summon them unless the monster I encountered has weekness to elemental attack or difficult to kill, I killed Malboro only using attack, limit break and magics, I'd say the worst battle system is the FFX's.

I'm more on the love side of the spectrum than the hate one. I thought it was a really good game that had the potential to be a masterpiece, but fell short in some places. But as it stands, it has its shiny moments, and I have many fond memories associated with it.

My only real complaints would be the school feel; Japanese people are obviously partial to this setting, but I'm not. And I would have liked the game to be darker. They had so much to draw from, with all the witches and dark magic. Ultimecia's castle gave me a few tingles, but I wanted more.

I didn't have a problem with the battle system, really.

There were some really good things to this game...but I simply can't say that I loved it. I'm going to have to go with the hate it side. I have all the normal complaints like i hate the junction system, i hate not being able to use my magic without my stats taking a hit, i hate having to draw magic from stuff and IMO this game had the worst sidequests out of any final fantasy. The chocobo thing was a joke. It didn't help my opinion of this game either that I had to force myself to keep playing it because I convinced myself the story would get better. I'm glad it did finally but I thought that the game pre-esthar was just down-right horrible as far as story-line goes. It took wwaaayyy too long for the story to pick up. I couldn't stand the fact that you were just as good not fighting any monsters at all as to finishing the game at level 99. I didn't really like the idea of the monsters leveling up with you and it just made the whole junctioning thing way to easy to just dominate through the entire game.
Oh..and lastly...worst..cid..evarrr.

The things I like/love about this game though was definitely the card game. out of the 40-50 hours i played...probably close to half of it was playing cards. I also appreciated that all the monsters were unique and weren't just pallet swaps later on down the road. I didn't mind as much as most people did about not really seeing Ultimacia or whatever until close to the end...i thought it was appropriate. I liked the main character...but spent most of the game hating him for being a depressed emo kid that was a total jerk to everyone. And after the whole love thing finally got some wind behind its back it wasn't too bad...nothing great but i didn't hate it.

All in all...the game was ok...but ok in final fantasy is not good. If i had picked it up named as "Squall's Journey" or something...it wouldn't have been that bad. But I have come to expect much more out of the FF brand. IMO its near the bottom of all of the FF's and definitely the worst on the PS. I rank it right there with 12. (10 being my favorite followed by 7 and 9)

FFVIII wasnt a game I can say I loved, but it certainly wasnt a game I hated by any means. It was a game I enjoyed playing, but it wasnt something I loved playing.

I loved it, it was refreshing. You were placed in a futuristic world, which, unlike FF7's even more futuristic Gaia, was not in any extreme toil. The seemingly biggest threat at the beginning was an army. Not a planetary calamity, but an army. It heated up, but it was always refreshing and original. Characters were impressive, as were the awesome locations. The Junction System suited the game's theme perfectly.
10/10, with ease.

I voted 'love it', simply because this is my favourite Final Fantasy game. There was nothing that I didn't like as far as I can remember, oh wait...Rinoa, hated her. But apart from that I have played this game over many times. I think its funny that the OP said that this and FFXII are the most controversial love/hate games of the series. Because my second fav one was number XII, I can see people ready to start bashing me now, lol.
