My dad has a friend that previously worked as a teacher in Japan who taught English. She currently lives in London, England, and has come to my house in Canada for a visit. She gave me a bag suitably titled by her: 'Japanese Culture Care Pack'. It contained a bunch of Anime DVDs, some Japanese Pop CDs, and a traditional Japanese notebook which opens like an accordion. In the very front pocket of the bag, which was obviously the last place I checked... I found a very surprising item:

More pictures coming up soon!

Also, if anyone is able to translate some of the text on the cards, that would be appreciated.

And I can't find these on Ebay! Are they that rare?! How valueble are these cards anyway? Any ideas?

I'm certainly not selling these babies anytime soon! ;) I haven't gotten to play Go Fish with them yet D:

:hmmm: I think I've seen these at the anime convention I go to every year... and I think depending on the series they depict they range from like $20 to $50... I wanna say the FF8 ones were like $25.. but it's been a few yeasr since I saw them there... I know the FF7 and FFX ones were more in the $50 area... because I was like shocked that they were charging so much for a deck of Cards... I'll have to look around this year and see if I can find them.... :hmmm:

I don't even know how she got these cards... I would like to know. Where was the anime convention and were they in some sort of special box? Because when I received these they were in the generic plastic card container... o.0

That's how they were at the Convention as well. Just a hard, clear plastic box. They had all different types... they had FFVII, VIII, IX, X, X-2 and Advent Children, and then various anime ones as well...

Interesting... When I went on Ebay, I only found ones that had like portrait pictures of the characters in little frames, and they were just visual trading type cards. No numbers or anything. You're sure they weren't those?

Nope, they were the exact same ones in your picture. I remember them because I asked if they could open the box so I could see was was on the side with the numbers XD

I thought it was going to be like actual cards like Triple Triad from IX. But these are just regular playing cards. I'm sorry bud, but you can't get much for them. eBay has em all over the place, mostly VII and variations thereof, so you're better off keeping them as a souvenir. You wouldn't get much.

I wonder how you play them?? (never heard of a FF8 Playing Card set) I would keep them because not a lot of people even heard of those (most likely)

Eh ive got some FFVII ones, arent worth much, got em for a few quid off ebay

They're just a normal 52-card deck used for playing games such as Solitare, Poker, 21 and even Go Fish. Just with rare Final Fantasy VIII images on them. I think they're special, because they're like 10 years old, they have f**king FF8 art on them, and they're friggin' playing cards! Imagine playing poker with these :3 I love 'em. I don't want to sell them. I just wanted to know how special these would be. And I could not find a copy of this deck of cards on Ebay. Just Triple Triad cards for like $640 and some other display trading card things. All I want to know is if these cards are special? :D

I have cards like these on Crisis core, FF7 and FFX-2. Didn't cost me that much, got them in London when I was on a 2-day study trip there (I live in the Netherlands, its not that far).
But yeah they're nice.

I could translate some of the cards for you if you want, but I'd need clearer pictures, cant read a darn thing on these pictures. I could read a bit of the last picture, seems to be a description of Raijin...
