FFVIII Re-Release?

I did do a search on this topic, albeit a half-assed one, and came up with nothing, so I'm going to go ahead and start this thread :gonk:

FF7 was recently (and I use that word lightly) released onto the PSN available for down, which I bought simply because I loved the game. FF1, and FF2 have been released onto the PSP.

Now, for some reason lately, I've been seeing alot of FFVII everywhere, and have actually been wanting to play it. I'd say I played it before, however, beating Ifriit isn't really far enough to say I've experienced the game. What do you think the chances are of them releasing the game onto the PSN? I'd buy it then, but I'm not motivated enough to search out a store near me that still sells games for the PS.
 
Well, I'm not really sure what the PSN is, lol. But I'd say the chances of them going through all that is kinda low, then they'd have to get IX done also, FFVII is the highest on demand with FF fans so that's why Enix is going to continue with that, but as for going through with VIII and IX, I'm not so sure. Have you checked on ebay for a copy of FFVIII for ps?
 
I think it's likely they will get FFVIII and FFIX on the PSN eventually. Obviously the demand isn't as high as it was for FFVII but they're still likely to follow. It just seems logical to get all the PSX era FF games on there.

PSN means the PlayStation Network, the online thingy for the PS3, sorta like Xbox Live, and ordering things from the internet isn't something I generally do, because I don't trust the postal service here. I figured the chances for releasing it onto the PSN must be at least decent now given some of the titles they have been adding lately. :gonk:

I think that Sony will put FF VIII and IX on the PSN eventually. For one thing, their new PSP system, the PSP Go is supposed to be their attempt at keeping more people from playing PSone roms on the PSP. They would be stupid to not realize the demand to take PSone games on the go on PSP. So chances are that they'd put the games on PSN to help with that effort.
 
Final Fantasy VIII is on the PSN in Japan apparently, as is FFIX.... hopefully they will get around to releasing them on the American PSN soon.
 
I believe they will bring both FFVIII and FFIX to PSN.
As I see it, FFVII is the first PS1 FF game and that is why they brought it first.
So I believe the next PS1 ones are to follow and maybe one day the PS2 games too.

Source? When FF VII hit PSN it was widely publicized, so I doubt it would go completely under the nose of the public, if they did the same with FF VIII and IX.
 
I do seem to remember a while ago (PS2 era while ago...) that one of Square's big guys said that FFVIII will be rereleased/remade only when you couldn't play it anymore on the playstation or something like that (I wish I could remember where it was, anyone else recall this?). Not sure if the circumstances quite fit but hey, I'm not complaining if they do eventually (Re-release over remake though I think...although improved graphics and other character development does tempt me...)

I think the chances would be very good, FFVII sold 100,000 copies in just 2 weeks once it went onto the PSN store making it the highest selling PSOneClassics, Vagrant Story went onto the Japanese store today and Final Fantasy Tactics will also be going on at some point and will likely to be hitting the NA and EU stores as well. I think FFVII was the first on because of popularity and now the lesser titles (though very good ones) are doing the rounds before the bigger titles, FFVIII and FFIX also hit the store, I'd presume they're doing it like that anyway.

If they are they better bringit to the EU PSN :gonk: I'mma raid the Japanese store tonight and see what I can find.
 
Ooooh, this would have been perfect if they could have had it ready to go online for sale for this next week - this upcoming Wednesday, 9/9/09, will be the 10th anniversary of FF8's American release. I'm planning on starting another playthrough that afternoon. Rock Band: The Beatles is going to have to wait until later on that night. (And I'm going to have to all of my homework the previous night, haha.)
 
The anniversary? Really? Damn, never knew that... I should put off my new playthrough until then. :D As for it being re-released, I think it would be a great idea! Although I doubt it'd be as recieved of the VII release, sadly. :(

I mean, the reason why the VII release is doing so well is because of all the spin offs. There hasn't been anything new specifically revolving around VIII... well... ever. Sure there's Squall (Leon) in KH, but I doubt too many people would buy VIII just because of that. :(

I reckon most people who would want it to be re-released would be the major fans of it, most of who probably have the original anyway... :(

i am hoping they release this on psn i would by straight away, would be nice to play it again as i can't play it on my ps3 with the discs

I'm still trying to decide what to do. I'm already in the middle of a playthrough I haven't worked on in a couple of years. (Middle is actually inaccurate -
I'm around the outer space part of the game
.) I can't decide if I should start playing that again or start a new file. I'm going to have to finish that playthrough eventually, but I really want to do the SeeD exam and SeeD ball on Wednesday night! (I'm getting way too into this, haha.)
 
Same here! I'm gonna scrap my new playthrough, (I'm only in Timber anyway xD) and start again on Wednesday. :) And compared to some people I know, I wouldn't say that's getting "too into it". I know people who actually do bake a cake for their favourite anime character. >.>

Anyway, back on topic; I thought all the PS3 systems played PSX discs? Mine's only a 40gb and it does... If not, then perhaps there is a chance it would sell well on PSN.
 
That's a good question. NeroSeraph, what type of PS3 do you have? I have a 60GB and I have no problem playing multi-disc PSX games. I just went from Disc 2 to Disc 3 of FF7 last weekend.
 
I'ld love a FFVIII remake, not a PSN port, but a full remake, PSP, DS or Xbox 360/PS3 work just fine for me. This, along with FFIX and Tactics were my favorite PS1 FF games. I own FFVII and finished it, liked it, i also bought Advent Children and loved it aswell as Crisis Core which i also liked, but i would have much preffered some FFVIII or FFIX material instead of FFVII.

Oh well, we can day dream can't we? :D
 
Idk about the other person's source Kenneth, but I was actually on the japanese PSN recently to download ad hoc party, and I saw ff8 in there. Presumably this means we'll be getting it soon here in the US. I was pretty tempted to just download the JP version lol, but I can't stand playing games in japanese.

sorry for long reply but i have a 40gb ps3 and i can play final fantasy VII and IX with the disc but for VIII i can't get it pass the the PSX logo just goes black, my version of VIII is a one of the few versions that doesn't work with the PS3.
