FFXII Hate

And did someone seriously argue that the hunts aren't sidequests? Really? Even besides them there's more sidequests than any other game in the series. The only problem is that you get no indication at all that some exist, so you have to consult a guide just to know some things are in there. Like how else would you figure out that you had to go to a city the plot wouldn't take you too for many hours, then buy a chocobo and chase off some NPCs just so you can visit a shop (I think) later?

Yes. I did say that. Hunting down "rare random monsters" is for Pokemon. Not Final Fantasy.

The main point in my argument being, "Oh, yeah, Vaan... My buddy lost his dog to this monster, can you kill it for us?" Or "My caravan of goods got intercepted by this dude, can you kill him for me?" Or "Hey, this monster is causing a crap load of political problems that I'm to lazy to properly explain, can you kill the dude for me?" Yeah, okay... One sentence of information is enough for this apparently sadistic, tattoo ab guy to go out and kill anything in the world.

Not to mention the fact that only the first one is required in any way for the main story, and barely.

Point #2 I forgot to mention, I think, as others have about another aspect. Yes, Quickenings was the dumbest thing I've ever tried. And I've tried some pretty dumb things in video games.

I'm very in the middle between love and hate with this installment.
At some points the game got very tedious with the battle system, and all the dungeons.
I also felt little to no connection with the characters. The only one I even feel a little bit of a connection with was Ashe only because it seemed the story revolved mostly around her. I think the game had great potential the towns seemed very well thought out, and the characters had so much potential themselves if only we got more of their story during the game. This game did give me a new favorite character which was Balthier. I think he was the most entertaining person in this installment. My biggest turn off to this game was the battle system, and the summons system. I didn't like how the battles we're paced, I felt like I had little control over it. (The way the battles and map we're integrated I feel like battles should have been similar to the Kingdom Hearts battle system.) The most enjoyable thing about this game for me was the theme song, It made an artist I didn't really like become one of my favorites. Angela Aki's lyrics written for both the Japanese version and English version we're very heart felt. 'Kiss me Good bye" ranks in my top FF songs of all time.

This game had so much potential in my eyes, if the story was only a little more meaty, and throughout, and if the characters had actual personality then It would have made worlds of a difference.

on a side note;
(Did anyone else feel like Vaan's voice actor sounded like it was recorded through a phone call?)

This game is pure bliss! No completely random battles, great FMVs, and an intriguing story are just some of the nice perks from this great game. I love it, bought it the day it came out, and am on my 5th playthrough. Rock it!

Now, I'm not a fan of FF12 but I can understand a bit of the hate it gets. I'm a big FF7 fan, but I can still understand the hate even that gets from some people. A lot of people say that 7 is underrated and you can come across a lot of obsessed fans that could really put you off the game. With 12 though I just never really got into it and a lot of the changes really weren't too my tastes. The battle system is the main game play aspect of FF games and there was a big transition between 12 and the other titles; inevitably that's going to lead to a lot of unhappy fans who have followed the series for sometime. I'm one such fan but I don't see the point in bitching about it, sure, I didn't like it but there are those who do so fair play. You're always going to get idiots who moan about things far too much.

In truth other than the game play I just wasn't a fan of the game in general, neither the storyline nor the characters really got me hooked on the game as it really wasn't my cup of tea.

Truth be told, it is my favorite Final Fantasy game to date. I love the music, characters, plot, graphics, and battle system. The only claims i have against the game are that the espers are basically irrelevant. I almost never used them because I could do more damage with my party alone. Someone made a comment earlier about the quickenings and how they did not like them. IMO they are awesome. They bring practice skill and reflexes to the rpg genre in a unique way. I also kinda liked the fact that there was no love plot, I find them repetitive and cheesy. FF12 FTW!

Most people cannot accept change, that's mainly it. Which is also why you will see a lot of people who hate FFXIII. I actually enjoyed the game quite well, it is in my Top 5 favorite FFs. The gameplay is definitely the best part about it. The music is very well done as well. The only thing I really don't like is the fact the character development and interaction was poor.

If the changes had been for the better, this installment would have been better recieved. But to many fans, the story, music, gameplay, and characters were all a gigantic step backwards in quality. It didn't measure up to the Final Fantasy name on the cover and thus people react a bit harsher to it. If it had not been a mainline title, then it might not have been so divisive.

I see so much hate for it because Final Fantasy has set such a high standard of gaming with Final Fantasy fans who've played the game for many years already and expect absolute greatness with each new installment. I think the biggest part was the maturity of the story-line and how it strayed from the "saving the girl" theme and the saving the world theme was a bit confused when you weren't really sure who the final boss or main baddy was.

I think the Espers were also a bit of a disappointment when they were somewhat pointless when your characters got powerful enough to win without them. Plus they used up all your MP when you called them in which sucked.

The game just wasn't fun for me. It has nothing to do with that I can't accept change because I was fine with the transistion from IV to VI and then to VII. And even from VIII to IX, and then IX to X.

The story was bland and uninteresting. I had no reason to care if the characters succeeded or not because most of the game consisted of me walking across huge zones and killing things. (reason why I prefer a world map because, even though there are random battles, I don't spend hours walking across them and I can get to the next story point) I kept forgetting what happened in XII.

Characters were bland and dull and most were pointless to the story line. There was no passion from anyone, not even Ashe.

And why do people keep saying this game is more mature than previously released games? I didn't see it. It was like politics for children. (mature is NOT a synonym for the word boring) Calling this game mature is really just a cop out for explaining why it just wasn't interesting. I mean seriously, if I find a documentary on particular part of history that I do not think is interesting, to be boring, was it just because it was too mature for me? ::rolls eyes::

Also it was too Star Wars like and I had to keep reminding myself that i was playing an FF game and now an SW game. (And yes, FF was inspired by Star Wars, but the entire damn setting of this game felt like it took place in the prequel trilogy.)

I'll admit, the game started out interesting, but then less than halfway through, it was just walking across the world with nothing of significance happening. No character growth, no reason for me to care or worry about anyone.

Why:

I didnt like the fact that you could run around in battle, why? It had no effect on the enemys attacks, they all had rocks! Every enemy had a rock to throw at you if you gained enough distance. If you could dodge attacks then cool, but there was no purpose to having you be able to move, if it doesnt effect anything at all. The only thing it added was the ability of a monster to chase you for miles and gang up on you with other monsters, thats better?

The characters werent interesting at all, they went on an adventure for the hell of it and eventually found a purpose.

Easy button, er i mean quickenings, are you serious? I killed so many bosses and bounties with just chaining them it was like using mime with kotr. And you had to cause your attacks did nothing, magic sucked but even in early game play quickenings own.

The story line was like an mmos, i didnt even care about it, it was all politics and at one point i thought i was watching episode 1. That dull.

Loved the vast market places, loved the monster hunting, but aside from that its a FF without real interest.

I think it was better than X-2, but not by much. The whole look of pretty much all the characters threw me off.

Mod Edit: This post doesn't really add much to the thread topic. Can you please expand on it a bit?

I support what you say, As most of it is more then true.
I seriously loved FFXII - probably more then FFX, the game i was in love with for some quite time, and still am. Just not so attached x).

I think its more the battle system change, I mean. its been like 11 Games of Final Fantasy before they changed it. I guess people just see it as something they didn't like. Personally i loved it.
aha.

I dissliked it because..
A) All the charecters except Fran look like they had the same parents and I didnt really feel like they pulled me in emotionally I honestly could have cared less what happend to them
B)The storey even by FF standards was way to convoluted to figure out threw game play alone
C) I beat it far to quickly and the summons where useless
Those are MY reasons for my disslike of it otherwise the battle system and such where nice in my veiw ,the music wasnt bad ....game play was fine. Everything was rather "pretty" I think all together Now thet I think back I rather enjoyed playing it but ...eh I doubt I will replay it
