Square Enix has revealed that work on the Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII began two months ago.

"Up to the trial demo version that was released [in April] in Japan, [FFXIII] was PS3-only in terms of development," producer Yoshinori Kitase told Giant Bomb (spotted by vg247).

"The Xbox 360 version is definitely following after the PS3 version, but [we] were finally able to come to a point in the PS3 development where some of the staff could take their hands off and start programming the 360 version."
Kitase and fellow producer/designer Motomu Toriyama gave an on-stage demonstration of FFXIII for Xbox 360 during Microsoft's E3 conference. The pair promised a Western release of spring 2010.

Final Fantasy XIII launches this winter exclusively on PS3 in Japan.

So wait Xbox 360 version is exclusive to the western region and in Japan Final Fantasy XIII is ps3 exclusive? Will both Versions be the exact same thing though? What if there is a limited edition. Im ok with this cause Xbox 360 is my game.

naw wer getting both 360 and ps3 japan is only getting ps3 cuz no one owns a 360

Well, I'll say this is good to hear. Maybe they'll release it for the PS3 and 360 at the same time, which will be even better. Getting the PS3 version, though. I don't own a 360. For those who do, this must be good news.

I just don't get how they're going to release both versions at the same time, the PS3 version has been in development for 1 or 2 years at least, so even the Western version should be heavy developed, the 360 version has been developed for...2 months. :wacky: And it won't be ported because the PS3 has far more powerful hardware, stated by more and more developers nowadays so they'd have to develop that completely seperately...so the PS3 version is just going to sit on the SE shelves whilst we're waiting for the 360 version, hence, they'll be losing money :monster:

I'm personally just going to buy a PS3. I'm sure the graphics will be good on the 360, which is what I own now, but I know they will be far superior on the PS3, also, since I'm sure there will be many more PS3 exclusives, that I will really want to get. I've also had experience that tells me to buy the game for the system it was originally made for.

Quite untrue, when Tales of Vesperia launched as a 360 exclusive it made a dramatic boost in the sales of the Xbox 360 in Japan. It boosted the sales to the point where they sold out of consoles and had to ship more in to the country.

Sure, it's not as popular as the DS where 1 in 5 people in japan own one, meaning 21.5% of their population has a Nintendo DS. But it's doing much better than it was before.

The 360 version will be the PS3 version, they always said from pretty much since the 360 announcement that once the game was ready to start translating for the Western markets they'll begin porting it to the 360 so they can do a Worldwide release over there at the same time.

And the differences between the two versions graphics-wise won't be huge at all, the major difference between the two consoles really is more to do with the storage space on DVDs compared to Blu-ray rather than the power of the respective consoles.

The only major thing I've heard that the 360 version will lack is that the PS3 version will more likely have the Japanese voices due to more space on the disks. When it comes to everything else they say that they would try keep the two versions as close as possible.

Basically don't worry too much if you're left with only the 360, you shouldn't be missing out on anything really. The fact that they've said that the 360 is a couple of months into production shouldn't be that much of a surprise considering that they showed it off at E3 not too long ago. It's a good sign since the earlier they started that the quicker we'd get it.
