Help FFXIII: Barthandelus

Here's a quick way to beat 2nd Barthandelus. Took me a few tries to figure out but this is especially useful for ppl who did not so much grinding like me (pretty much none) and have less than maxed out characters.

I used Vanille, Light, and Snow but basically, you just need a good medic/rav, commando/rav, and commando/sentinel

Since he doesn't have any super powerful attacks, but rather very quick ones, you'll be healing alot. For most of the time, I was in Diversity, playing as the medic/rav character and constantly use cura and cure on the characters if their health was below %65. You'll want to play as the medic because if you let the AI handle the medic role, they don't heal you all the way, and when Bart uses a debuff on you, the AI tends to cast esuna to get rid of the debuff even though you're health may be really low. Also, if one of your AI characters has super low health, let them die and restore them with phoenix down to bring them back to almost full health. That's much faster than trying to cure them.
So pretty much with Diversity, you will constantly heal your allies while they stagger and dish out damage.

When you're in good shape, switch to relentless assault but don't stay there for long. Switch back to diversity as soon as someone's health falls below 65%.

When he does that super attack where he shoots blue lazers from his face, switch to solidarity so you're sentinel can absorb the damage and get ready to heal. Once he does that attack, switch back to diversity.

When he is staggered, switch to medic-commando-commando (forgot what this is called). Basically, physical attacks do much more damage to him than elemental ravager attacks. Snow was dishin out over 80,000 damage per hit with physical attacks while Bart was staggered.

Other tips:
At the start of the battle make sure your TP bar is completely filled. When you stagger Bart for the first time, use Vanille/Hope, whichever you're playing as medic, to summon. When the stagger bar falls to about 70%, go into gestalt and beat the crap outta him. Make sure you do you're finishing move while he is still staggered!
As the battle progresses, you're TP will refill back to 3 from 2. Summon again when he casts doom on you and use the same strategy.

That's pretty much it, I managed to beat him with over 700 left on the doom clock. (edit: he cast doom at around 800,000hp)

Paradigms that included saboteur and synergist roles were useless pretty much. synergists helped a little with reducing the amount of damage taken but its not necessary since you're goal is to stagger Bart as soon as possible and using synergist/saboteur often may not leave you with enough time to finish him when he casts doom.

Recap:
Diversity, Relentless Assault, medic-com-com, and Solidarity were the only paradigms I needed. PLAY AS THE MEDIC. Summon at the start of the battle, again when he casts doom.

I'm stuck on the first one!! He's a pain in the ass!!

I kill all of his armour but and then I get his HP down low, then he goes and uses this attack I forgot its name but it's something that resembles the word destruct, and then my HP goes down very low, and then he'll just attack lightning and it'll go game over.

Grrr it's too hard :( my crystal thingy is all levelled up to level 3 (the highest it can go atm) I have no idea what I'm supposed to do :(

EDIT: OMGGG!!!!!!!!!!! I just killed him!!! Thank god!!!! So happy ^_^

^^^ in the future, when bosses are about to unleash a super powerful attack, the screen will focus on them for a few seconds, and in that time, quickly switch to a paradigm with a sentinel

I'm just like Gazarazzi. I just cannot get past this boss in Ch.9. I tried the method used in the guide, as well as the team suggested, but I always get killed by its Destructo.
So far I spend around 2-3hrs trying and this is getting very frustrating. I mostly stick with Diversity and end up constantly healing everyone. Fang is the only one ending up getting rid of its armor.
Once the armor is gone, it switches to frquently between Destructo and other major attacks, that it gets really difficult to heal and gets up to the point that constant healing just does not help, and Hope and Fang dies.

A few times I saw a countdown timer, but I just cannot defeat this boss before the timer runs out. This is because I have to stay in Diversity. I cannot summon Odin, as it always is 'greyed out'.

I have all three party members are Level 3, and below setup.
Lightning - Weapon (Gladius), Accessories (Brawler's Wristband, Tungsten Bangle)
Hope - Weapon (Airwing), Accessories (Gold Bangle, Doctor's Code)
Fang - Weapon (Bladed Lance), Accessories (Shaman's Mark, Silver Bangle)

This boss, HONESTLY WAS REALLY hard for me.

But I conquered him.

First of all -

I'd RECOMMEND you to CP Grind on the room before the fight. You can also get a good amount of GIL depending on how long you grind. I CP grinded until all my Crystarium for each role is at level 3. That speaks for all my characters.

Now on the method on how I beat him.

First off, what you want to do is put on any SHROUDS you have, as they may be vital to saving you from a frustrating defeat.

Now for the Paradigm Deck -

I used Light, Snow (I only used Snow as a Sentinel for the most part. Fang is also helpful), and Hope as my party.

1. Light: Medic // Snow: Sentinel // Hope: Synergist
2. Light: Ravager // Snow: Sentinel // Hope: Medic
3. Light: Medic // Snow: Sentinel // Hope: Ravager
4. ALL RAVAGERS
5. Light: Medic // Snow: Sentinel // Hope: Medic - In case your critically low on HP

Now for the battle guide -

I suggest you put your active Paradigm to 1 if you didn't use any shrouds. Start out the battle for a few minutes by having Hope buff you, while you (Lightning) heal the party and as for Snow, he'll be taunting the 4 pauldrons.

After that, once you are fully buffed with each of the available abilities from Hope (Synergist Level 3 with all abilities learned) switch to paradigm 3 and start doing Blitz on the Left Ailette and Left Pauldron. If you ever feel you won't survive the next barrage of spells, switch to deck 5 and let the healing commence.

Once you get the HP of both Left Shoulders to 50%, Barthandelus will do a Magic Amplification and start blasting you with Fira, Watera, Thundara, and Blizzara. Repeat until both Left Shoulders have been destroyed.

Now, at this point, Barthandelus will do another Magic AMP and start blasting you with the most powerful spells. (Firaga, Waterga, Blizzaga, Thundaga). Now work on the RIGHT SHOULDER. Also if your buffs wear off, just switch back to paradigm deck 1 and buff your party once again.

Keep working on the RIGHT SHOULDERS with Blitz from Lightning. Once they are destroyed, then you will face Barthandelus himself.

Beware: he does some powerful attacks, so BE ON YOUR TOES on switching to paradigm deck 5.

Barthandelus' attacks are as follows:

• An attack called ___ Laughter ( I forgot what the first part is called)
• Rest in Ruins (?) - he'll unleash a barrage of Ruin on a single character, or choose to do Ruinga which inflicts on the whole party
• Destrudo - he only does this if he has less than 300K HP left, He does it multiple times. This move takes about a full minute to charge up, it is extremely dangerous, so always switch to deck 5!!
• DOOM - only does this move IF he feels you are taking too long to kill him

Okay, now that you got that down, SWITCH TO ALL RAVAGER paradigm deck and unload all your available spells on him. Attempt to stagger him, but if you feel you can take anymore damage, switch to deck 3, while you heal and Hope tries to stagger him. When your party is safe, switch back to Tri-Ravager deck and do more spells on him.

That's all I have for you.

This battle requires a lot of repeating tactics.

Weapons and Accessories

These are what I used to beat the 1st Barthandelus battle.

Lightning - Gladius: Level 20
Snow - Power Circle: Level 10
Hope - Airwing: Level 18

Accessories -

I don't remember the exact one I used, but here's a breakdown.

Lightning -
Acc. 1 - + Doctor's Code
Acc. 2 - + 20 - ??? STRENGTH (Any type of Wristband)

Snow -
Acc. 1 - + 200 HP Bangle (Golden Bangle)
Acc. 2 - Another Bangle, doesn't matter (Iron Bangle or Silver Bangle)

Hope -
Acc. 1 - + 20 - ??? MAGIC (Magician's Mark)
Acc. 2 - Same as Acc. 2

I ended up beating him in just over 11mins finally. I had the Diversity paradigm setup wrong (I had Lightning as the Medic, not as the Ravager). Once I changed that, I beaten him.
I mostly switched between 'Solidarity' and 'Relentless Assault'. Once the Destructo indicator appears, I changed to 'Hero's Charge (MED/SYN/COM), then to 'Diversity'. Once it's finished, I switched back to 'Hero's Charge' to heal Lightning and Hope, then back to 'Diversity'. I kept doing this until it was over.

Barthandelus 2

This guy was draining the hell out of me the second time, however after much trial and error found a very simple way, Lightning, vanille & Fang, use 2 sabatours as much as possible to keep him powered down, having lightning and vanille will also allow you 2 medics for quick refills on HP, when his status is most affected hammer him with 1x commando and 2 ravagers which staggers him really quickly, remember to keep using a sabatour every so often as it makes it a damn sight easier, I didnt have to summon and he didnt even cast doom and only took about 5 mins to take down, probably makes up for the hours I spent trying to work it out!

Barthandelus in Ch. 11 help?

How do you beat it?! I mean, I think that it's pretty much easier than Barthandelus from Ch. 9 *shrugs*, but the status ailments are SO annoying especially when he does daze!

Right now my party's:

Lightning - HP 2690, Strength 472, Magic 371
Fang - HP 2868, S. 536, M. 310
Hope - HP 2580, S. 292, M. 473

[[ I think I'm totally underleveled.. :( ]]

my paradigms are: (L/F/H)
Agression (com/com/med)
Mystic Tower (rav/sen/rav)
Delta Attack (com/sen/rav)
Diversity (rav/com/med)
Combat Clinic (med/sen/med)
Variety (med/sab/rav)

So, first I just stagger him using Delta Attack, then Mystic Tower, and once he's staggered I go to Agression. Sometime towards the end of the stagger or when it just about resets, I change to Variety until he's inflicted by slow. I use Diversity and Combat Clinic as necessary.. But I pretty much die because he'd end up casting daze on Hope and Light at the same time, and no one can cure each other, and then he does the Thanasotian Smile and kills the party.. That's why I keep having trouble..

And this guy has like, 3 million life.. c'mon..

Should I try anything new? Should I start leveling up a little more?

Let me tell you that Barthandelus Battle I and Barthandelus Battle II are both easy. The first was a pain in the butt, yes. -ga spells are real killers. But it's nothing Combat Clinic couldn't cure. Now, the second battle is just long. I switched between Delta Attack and Combat Clinic (Light, Hope, Fang) throughout the whole thing and he maybe only scared me once, and even if he had got me somehow, I had a full TP bar.

So why did I lose the second Barthandelus battle?? X-x Doom. Thus, my question before I go off to train: Is there ANY way to overcome this horrid status effect?? Esuna doesn't work and Dispelga doesn't work. So I'm guessing nothing does, right? I don't need a strategy because I have one and it works fine, but this Doom thing...ugh. He cast it at 850,000 and I got him down to 400,000 before I died. I wasn't expecting him to cast it at such a high HP. I pretty much knew the battle was lost. And it devastated me. Just wondering if there is any hope out there to beat Doom. If not, then I must hope that my training pays off. I'm going to get as far into the Crystarium as possible by completing as many roles for as many characters as I can. Until I get impatient and want to get beaten by a measly Doom spell again. X-x

I'm so distraught.....v.v

The same thing killed me first time, he cast it at 1,000,000 HP, he does this if you take too long, otherwise he casts it very late (between 400,000 and 200,000 HP) Relentless Assault and Combat Clinic are your friends here, alternating between the two, use your TP for 1 renew and 1 summon (though the 3 TP for summoning are not necessary and can be used for other things), this way he satays staggesred almost constantly and is unable to act well, switch to Medic-Synergist-Saboteur at the start of the battle and buff and debilatise, rebuff etc. every time these wear off, this way Barthandelus will also be slowed giving you the upper hand.

Believe it or not, I just beat Barthandelus Battle II. ^ ^ Yay~~ To all of you who are having trouble: Aggression. That is a complete livesaver. In conclusion:

First - Alternate between Delta Attack and Combat Clinic to chain. Don't stay in Combat Clinic for too long or you'll lose your chain which is pretty important.

Second - Unleash the power of Aggression to deal a massive amount of damage.

Repeat.

If he casts Doom on you, I don't know what to tell you. He decided against casting Doom on me the second time around, so I guess I got lucky. I suggest not letting the timer freak you out. Just keep up your tactic, but I suggest cutting down Combat Clinic usage to a bare minimum, and now you'll want to alternate between Relentless Assault for chaining and Aggression for damage.

That's what worked for me, anyway. =3

A very easy and simple way to beat barthandelus the second time is to make yourself death imune. If you find all the robot parts in Oreba you can sell some of the non usefull items that the robot gives you for about 600k in gil. With this you can upgrade 3 cherub crowns. after you have fully upgraded those you want to transsforn them in to serphum crowns, then fully upgrade those. With three of these you will have 94 percent death protection. Giveing you the ability to rape Barthandelus without having to meet any of the caps.

I just fought this guy today and it was a long battle, but not hard at all.

I just went from left to right and attacked each separate head until they were all eliminated. You can use Libra on each to make it easier for your characters to use what they are weak against, but I only used it on 2 of the heads so I could save some Tech Points just incase I wanted/needed to Summon.

However, I got down to the head, used Commando/Ravenger/Medic combo then when I saw him go into his Stagger/Destructo form, I switched to 1 Commando and 2 Ravengers to attack like crazy while he was juicing up for his big attack and not attacking for a few seconds.

You have to fight him again? Cause you havent been to oerba the first time.

A tip for the second battle versus Bartholendus.
I struggled like HELL during my first try, but after reading this, I came up with an easy solution.

The solution to OWNING this fight is to stagger him and damage him as much as possible. Not the other way. You will be using only two paradigms:
1. Agression = Hope as Med, Fang and Lightning is Commando
2. Combat Clinic

You attack only with Agression and do it as much as possible. Use the Ethersol you find before the battle to get Haste, and switch to Combat Clinic as little as possible. You can survive for quite some rounds of attacking with only half of your health.

With this tactic, he did not even cast Doom on me.
Once during the fight I was in a real struggle healthwise, then I used Alexander. He heals your party up, and use UPWARDS + X attack ONLY on him. This builds up stagger quite fast.

The method I used for the 2nd encounter is use Fortisol & Aegisol, and when the fight starts switched to Relentless Assault. I pounded away and diminished its HP a good deal. I switched to Solidarity whenever one member HP goes yellow, or Combat Clinic when two goes yellow.
When it took away Haste, I switched to Protection until got it back and did the above again. Doing this I finished the fight just over its time limit.

This was my strategy.
I found out the hard way, the key to this boss is to keep moving. two ravagers and a commando work wonders with getting his armor off if u use a librascope. If you dont use it right combat clinic can kill you in the second part, once he starts charging for destrudo switch to combat clinic to heal up then to solidarity if you didnt spend too much time in cbc lightning wont get hit. if you get the doom clock wait till its about 200 then summon odin and you will survive it.
