Help FFXIII: Chapter 12 boss

Need help with second encounter of Proudclad in Chapter 12. I can get him to stagger and get past his Retaliatory Strikes easy enough before he heals/buffs himself but after I stagger him for the third time he auto targets my Lead and totally nukes the shit out her. I go to combat clinic 30% before the Strike happens but no amount of healing I do(while fully buffed) will enable me to survive that punishment =(

Its now 3 in the morning and ive attempted him at least 10 times before i gave up. Maybe im just tired and cant concentrate or something but id like some helpful strats to survive that encounter. Im using the books strat atm but thats not really doing it.

hmmm now that i think about it, I wounder if the despellga tech would work on him. I probly should try that tomorrow. Though my saboteur didnt do shit with despells =(


All my current accesories gives + magic or + strength to my characters. I havent bothered with weapon upgrades.

Right well I remember beating both versions first go, proudclad is very tricky, what team do you have and what paradigms do you use cause this in all will help me understand your tactics.

I only weapon upgraded Lightning so I have a Mastered Helter Skelter at the moment need money for next component.

2nd encounter

Paradigm:

Relentless Assault
Delta Attack
Protection
Evened Odds
Combat Clinic
Mystic tower


Party: Lightning, Fang, Hope

all have 3 main roles and all are on the 4th tier

Like i said, goin straight from the books strat. Ill look into ur paradigm setup and retry after work.

You should probably upgrade weapons, also. I had Light's Peacemaker Lv. 23, Hope's Eagletalon Lv. 17, and Fang's Glaive Lv. 19. Both Light's ATK and MAG were in the 1000s. And Hope's MAG and Fang's ATK were around 1500. I'd say the only Paradigms you really need are Combat Clinic, Delta Attack, Mystic Tower, Aggression, and Protection. Evened Odds is risky. Even Protection was risky in the second half of the battle. One healer tends to be not enough. But really, it all wasn't that bad. Use Renew if you get into deep trouble. Honestly, Proudclad was a pushover compared to Barthandelus.

I can understand your frustration but I finished it luckily first go, almost near death a couple times, the point of Guriella is to stagger it, with hope buffing your party with Haste (if he hasn't you need to get it learnt) and with fang in saboteur debuffiering it. Once you are all in haste and pretty buffed with like bravery and faith etc, switch to relentless assault the boss should have a couple of debuffs on him pretty usefull ones like stop, imperil and stuff like that will work I think. Stagger it do the major damage because it should of had deprotect casted as well.

If you go into yellow health go into combat clinic which means lightning and hope will be healing and fang will be blocking and provoking the attacks. Keep this strategy going till you defeat it, if near death go into a summon should help revive fallen members. (Forgot: Go into Aggression once it's staggered to get the stagger % increasing whilst you attack.)

If that doesn't work (it worked for me and it's what I use against future bosses) then you could try this for some one off serious damage, be in control of vanielle and stagger it, once staggered, summon her summon, try and get the % up as high as you can and go to gestalt mode make sure its stagger is still in half way (whilst staggered) and pummel it with a couple moves making sure it doesn't recover from stagger and then hit it with the best move it can do around 100,000-999,999 depending on how much % of stagger.

Didn't you have problems with Sentinel not really working? I'm talking specifically when it is in Annihilator Mode and it uses that freakin' beam attack that pretty much hits everyone. I used when it switched to Annihilator Mode to use the Protection/Combat Clinic (depending on how bad we were doing) paradigms and when it switched to Aerial Defense Mode, that's when I used one round of Delta Attack for a chain fix, then pummeled it with Relentless Assault (since Sentinel was useless) to skyrocket the chain gauge. It would be staggered in about 2-3 rounds. Then, I went beast on it with Aggression to deal damage. Relentless Assault is useless because only Fang would be dealing major damage. Smite/Scourge really come in handy. Then, you just repeat the process, but when it does the Retaliation Strike thing, you'd better be in Combat Clinic beforehand and hopefully you still have Haste. But you said you could handle that, so that's good.

Well hes dead. all I really did was get lucky with heals and finished him after 2 staggers after buff. lol i dont know why I post these things. I always seem to figure it out in the end but thanks for the replies.
