Hi, I'm new to FF series - just got FF13 and playing it now.

Is it just me, or is FF extremely complicated while at the same time explaining very little!?

I just got a thing from those spheres. Gladiator or something. When I equipped it it said:

Strength goes up
Magic goes down

BUT - What is strength? What is magic? How do I know if the weapon I'm using is strength based or magic based? How do I know which is best against a certain enemy?

I'm new to RPGs by the way - oh and also, I've got FFVII (though I havn't played it yet - I thought I'd start with 13)

I thought 13 would be easier and then once I finish it play 7.

13 is easier than 7? Right? Or should I put 13 on hold and play 7? I've only played about an hour of FF13.

If Strenght goes up you deal more damage with pshyical attacks if magic goes up you deal more damage with magical attacks.
for example the commando role: Attack and Blitz are Pshyical attacks so if strenght goes up you deal more damage with them.
Ruin and Ruinga are Magical attacks so when magic goes up you deal more damage with them.

And there is a Help booth for this i think it will be moved soon.

I'll go ahead and move this to FFXIII Help Booth for you. :)

yes.

well. if you want my advice play 7

uhh also a helpfull tip

I dont know if XII has it but.....

if you clicks the select button (sometimes ) a dear sweet moogle will pop up and give you a definition of what an attack does, or ability. that should really help you allot. but sometimes its not a moogle

Final Fantasy can be very overwhelming at first, but no matter witch one your playing just stick with it
you'll get the hang of it. I promise :)

I do not want to be the one who supports the "OMG 7 IS TEH BAST FF EFFAH CLOUD FUKS MY PUSY WITYH HIZ SPIKY HAIR" statements, but if Final Fantasy 7 and Final Fantasy XIII fought, it'd be like pistol whipping a blind kid tbh :wacky:

go play Final Fantasy VII, take Final Fantasy XIII back to the store and tell them it's defective imo :elmo:

How do you know that attack and blitz are strength and that ruiniga are magic? Where does it say this?

Whats the difference between a strength attack and a magic attack?

The only reason I bought FF7 is because everyone kept talking about how good it is. What does FF7 have that FF13 doesn't? Whats so bad about FF13? Seems okay so far...

Are you saying it's a bad game _compared_ to the other FFs? Or bad game in general?

I got the booklet - doesn't say anything about it, and even if it did, it probably wouldn't explain it very well, as most things aren't...

do you have the little booklet that comes with the game. it might say it there....possibly

You guys!

I dont know what that means...........I think the different Physical attack and Magic Attacks are listed in the Status screen under the various roles characters can fill, y'know
SAB/RAV/SEN/SYN......I cant remember the other 2.......

You poor bastard being fated to play FFXIII first time to the series this is the 2nd game in the story of what is possibly the the decline of FF as a whole.............but that's another story.

FFVII is a far more rewarding an experience than FFXIII, so you should start there.

I would honestly start with VII as the others have said, that was my 1st one of the series and I have been playing it since then, my 1st playthrough I was 8 years old. It was a slow process, but it grows onto you and you'll understand the game.

Basically a magic attack is anything, well magic based. Like fire for example, or lightning, ice, shit like that is what is considered a magic attack. Where as shit like attack, blitz, stuff that uses your actual weapon to melee or strike enemies are physical attacks. And attacks like Frost Strike, Spark Strike, anything that uses the basic elements are magic as well.

If fire/water etc. are all magic, why are there separate icons for fire, water and magic?

Also, I have an accessory/weapon, but i cant equip it because theres no more slots (one maximum)? Am I doing somethign wrong?

How do you guys know when/what to equip/modify/improve? What do you usually look for? What is your mind set like when playing the game?

argh.. so confusing.

This is because they are different elements. Enemies will often have different elemental weaknesses. This means that spells from that element will be more effective than usual against the enemy. At the same time, some enemies may have certain elemental strengths meaning they may absorb spells of the same element.

My mind set is rather simple. I just look at how much the items improve my stats. I didn't really bother modifying or improving my weapons in XIII, so it's not incredibly important in this game. The trick to this game is just figuring out which paradigm set ups you need in which battles.

If you just keep playing you should get the hang of it. I found the FF series incredibly confusing when I played my first FF, but once get your head around it it's a lot less confusing.

Ok, so I'm probably over-panicking and taking the game alittle too seriously then :P

It's just that I'm so desperate to play this game right - like a true FF player/fan.

Anyway, why do people hate ff13 so much? And why do people obsess over FF7 so much?

EDIT: By the way, do you people actually keep track of enemy vulnerabilities and try to find the right attack against them? Or do you just use whatever?

I dont know that, but i just can see if something is magical or pshycial by this attack is just a normal hit with the weapon ruin is something you cant do in real (i atleast not).

Alot of ppl bitch about 13 having bad voice acting, linearity, having no plot, characters being forgettable, too easy, no main villain, shitty music, not being able to go back to towns you visited, crystarium being capped at points, no real customization with characters, no real side quests outside of missions, stuff like that. The whole linearity thing didn't bother me, because as I recall FFX was just as linear if not more and its one of my favorites of the series, and its also a game that some ppl label one of the best of the series. And I do not agree with ppl saying the music was terrible either, because I love the music in this game. Dust to dust(Oerba theme) is an absolutely beautiful song, and is one of my many favorites. But hey, its just my take on it.

VII alot of people feel is the best of the series because of the story, the characters, Sephiroth being the best villain in any FF game, a plot twist(which I will not get into),and probably several other reasons. I feel it is the best one not just because it was my 1st one I played, but because I had so much damn fun with it. The replay value for me was very high. I could play it and play it and never get bored with it.

Well in FFXIII you can use a librascope from the item menu and that will scan all of the enemy's strengths weaknesses etc.. Also you can push select (I think that's the button to press :hmmm:) and view any info that you have (automatically) collected from that enemy in previous battles or during the current one.

It's just down to personal preference really. FFVII is probably the most popular in the series, but many think it is overrated. People often criticize FFXIII for being to linear (But I actually think it is good game to play if you are new to the series and RPG's in general for that very reason). Personally I don't think XIII is that bad a game, but it's certainly not the greatest FF out there.

Whats the most important thing to do in the game, stats wise?

Is it just improve strength, magic & hp? or are there other stats that need improving?

How do you keep track of all the different components, accessories, items, etcetc... I've got stuff in my inventory that I have no idea what to do with it, or how/when to use it. Like fangs and strange liquids, etc.

PS: I hope FF7 works on PS3-Slim... otherwise I just wasted a lot of money :(

Yes it does. PS3s can play PS1 games, but not PS2 games (unless you have one of the original PS3s). So if you ever want to get and play X and XII, you'll have to get a PS2 (pretty cheap nowadays). Maybe if you wait long enough, they may port X and XII over (one can hope).

Don't listen to other people to tell you what's so great about one game and what's so bad about another. You should just go ahead and play them and form your own opinions about them.

As far as which to play first, I would recommend playing 7 first. If you play the games in order, you can see sort of a progression of how stuff has been changed with each new game. As a matter of fact, aside from a few mechanics, 7 plays just like 1, 3-6, and 7-9.

13 is a whole different beast. On one hand, you MAY get the wrong impression of the series if you play 13 first, but on the other hand, you may not. Just don't play 13, then expect 7 to play the same way.

I'm playing 7 now. Wow, its a lot better! Story is great. Graphics are a bit simple, but I'm really enjoying it.

FF13 seems pretty plain after playing a bit of 7. Guys were right. And it's much easier to understand too!

yaaay!!! im playing 7 too :D
I just started yesterday. hahaha

its always better to go with the classics :}

the older ones teach you as you go along,
I guess the newer ones dont do it as much, they just assume you know
like when I was playing FF12 I didn't even realize that the weapons license bored was even there unlill I was like 1/4 through the game XD. I was fighting with everyone's default weapon like a tard
