Final Fantasy 11 vs. Guild Wars

guild wars is free but not as good on the whole, if you can afford 9 quid (dunno bout $'s) ffxi is much better, because you paying for the difference, the lvl cap on GW is 20, but 75 on ffxi. the world is bigger and you can just generally do more. i've played both and i efinetly prefer ffxi, GW gets boring after about a month

Guild Wars is more designed for causal players. It takes about a month or two to get to level 20 playing causally. Questing is pretty straightforward. Also from level 1-20 your all by yourself. You don't need to create parties for leveling, but maybe for questing. After level 20 your goal is to get the best armor and pvp. Also there are no monthly payments. Each game is a different game completely. Prophecies - Medieval setting, Factions - Asian/Ancient China setting, Nightfall - Desert/Arabian setting.

As for FFXI... I don't know too much but leveling to 75 can take a very long time. It took my friend about a year. Also you need to find groups to level. Bosses are outside so you'll be chasing it while other players are trying to get the kill. The Japanese players aren't very friendly. There is no PVP. It's a much tougher game overall. Also you need to pay 10 a month. (I think)

Now to totally rip this apart.

75 Can take about 4 Months if you level solidly. Not all Bosses are outside, and all of them are forced spawn, or in BCNM/KSNM so it's first come, first served. The Japanese are the most friendly people on the game, the Americans on there are bastards. There is PvP, Ballista and Brenner. Yes, it is a tougher game overall, that makes it more rewarding, and more fun.
The game is bigger, more attractive with more to do.
I'd definitely take XI over GW or WoW.

I've never played FFXI, but i'm a steady GW and WoW player.

It all depends on what kind of game you're looking for, and what you like to do.

Personally I prefer Guild Wars.
But thats because I like to PvP, and I also like the limit to how many skills you have on your bar.

within FFXI there are several major storylines -The three Nations, Rise of the Zilart, Chains of Promathia, Treasures of Aht Urghan, and Wings of the Goddess(the last four being expansion packs). They all have a unique story in the world and come to a ending but the game itself keeps expanding.

and other than the major ones, there are plenty of other stories to be told, through quest usually which also have thier own beginning and ending.

ok so it's like you're in the world and new events happen via expansion packs and quests so it's kinda like a ff community with new games all the time? or is that not really how it is?

FFXI is so old now. Before it used to take years to level but since they changed many many things, like exp gain, it SHOULD be easy to get to 75 now days, 2 months or so. But fact is, not as many people are playing at lower levels. So it has become harder to level.

So although FF is my heart, it has burnt out in the past years and I'd have to put the nod towards Guild Wars since it is easier. But if you are looking for more of a challenge, by all means try FFXI. It still is great, but not as great as it used to be imo.

FFXI really has burnt out, and I blame Aht Urgan, since the introduction of that expansion, people have found it so much easier to get to level 75, meaning that all the jobs they wanted to level are now levelled, meaning us simpletons below Aht Urgan level are finding it ridiculously hard to level.

It depends what your looking for in a game, if your looking for a good storyline, a good world to play in and lots of people, ff11 is the game you want. Or your like me and cant afford monthly fee's GW is a good enough as a free online rpg.
