"Final Fantasy VII Monopoly is due to ship on April 14, 2017."

It sounds pretty fun according to the information that they gave us. A monopoly game based on the city of Midgar. I just wounder, which characters will be chosen to be playable in this monopoly game?

Lol, it's rigged so that whoever picks the President Shinra game piece starts out the game by owning everything but the "Promised Land" square.

Because Aerith and Sephiroth own that square, amirite? :ryan:

What a concept, though. I'm curious how long the planning phase took for this. I'm assuming this version could get just as frustrating as normal Monopoly. :lew:

"Do not pass Gold Saucer. Do not collect 20 GP." Or something like that. Haha. (Haven't actually read the link.)

This is actually a really cool idea and I'd totally get this! I can't remember the last time I played Monopoly, let alone bought a board game. I'd love to see them do it with X and IX as well :inlove:

In terms of design, Monopoly is actually an awful game when you compare it to titles like Puerto Rico or Power Grid or even Settlers of Catan. I would have preferred to see something original and thematic, the way Firefly was made into a pickup-and-delivery game or A Game of Thrones was made into an alliance-and-backstabbing strategy game. Still, FFVII Monopoly should make for a nice collector's item.

Really, I think FFVII is most suited to a Living Card Game (LCG), even though I hate those. But I also think that it would be neat if it were done up like War of the Ring, an asymmetrical strategy board game in which there are two victory conditions (destroying the One Ring vs. conquering the map) and each side has the advantage in only one of the conditions; or maybe like Here I Stand: Wars of the Reformation, where there are six players (Ottomans, Hapsburgs, England, France, Papacy, Protestants) and each one gains victory points based on their individualized objectives.

Personally, I can imagine FFVII as an asymmetrical strategy game with 3 players (ShinRa, AVALANCHE, and Sephiroth). ShinRa would have the transportational and numerical advantage but the most difficult victory condition (eradicate all other players while trying to prevent Aerith from reaching the Forgotten City and while fending off the WEAPONs and Meteor). AVALANCHE would be disadvantaged in terms of transportation and numbers, but their members would be more powerful at combat, and if they can escort Aerith to the Forgotten City without her dying first OR successfully retrieve the Black Materia and keep it away from Sephiroth, they can prevent his easiest victory condition. And Sephiroth would be almost the mirror image of AVALANCHE. His minions are disadvantaged compared to ShinRa's transportation and numbers, but if he can get the Black Materia and kill Aerith before she summons Holy, all while avoiding ShinRa, he is almost certain to win. If he does summon Meteor, though, this triggers the WEAPONS to be released, which move about the map according to dice roll formulae. And since the board would be more or less the world map, you would have room for expansion packs. Wutai-ShinRa War.

I personally think that one of the characters that should appear in this monopoly game is Caith Sith. The reason why I say this is because his is the only character in the game that has the ability to dice roll, so he is a perfect candidate for this game. Also he should have the ability to Re-roll only once per turn if you don't like the roll you had, but it will come with a price. If you choose to use this ability, you have to pay the required amount of dollars requested as a cost. I think it will fit perfectly for this game because the game is based on buying and selling.

It will not change the purpose of the game at all while making it as relevant to Final Fantasy VII as possible. What you guys think about that?

Yeah, I have to say my favorite tweaks of Monopoly are those where different players have different perks. I like your Cait Sith idea, but I would say that to keep the game balanced other players would need perks, too.

I don't expect there to be many new mechanics. For the LotR monopoly they introduced the ring - a fairly simple mechanic. One of the two dice has the "1" replaced by the "Eye of Sauron"; whenever this is rolled in the normal course of the game, the One Ring token is advanced one space on the board.

If a player lands on the property upon which the One Ring Token is located, they can get it for free. If the property is already owned, then they owe the owner double normal rent.

I think it'll be something similar to that. Anyway, I was tempted to get this months ago but then realised it was only pre-order so i'll wait for now
