Help Final Fantasy VIII GF Square Button

Um, there's no secret. Just mash the square button when the red X is not displayed, otherwise the counter will go back to the initial number.

The square button mashing appears when the GF has the Boost ability.
 
and to explain it a little more the boost feature increases the damage done...the max for and one summon is 250+...there are a few that don't have the boost, of the top of my head the only ones i can think of are diablo and doomtrain...someone correct me if i forgot one or am wrong about one of those 2
 
I do believe Carbuncle doesn't have it either, since he's support magic and not damaging anything.
But yeah boosts up damage. I always make sure I get it as fast as possible since it only costs 10 AP to learn.
 
Doomtrain is a unique GF though. Depending on how much you boost him, he inflicts more status effects...and when fighting the Omega Weapon, if you boost Doomtrain too much, he heals him...it's bad enough it took me 9 Lion Heart's to beat the big S.O.B...lol.
 
Yeah, there really isn't a secret to it, it's probably more your technique. What I did was either held my thumb right about it since personally I can move that the fastest of my fingers and it's the strongest. I held it right over the Square button and mashed it non-stop for 10 seconds or whatever time it gave you.

Same could go for the index finger as well. Whatever is more comfortable for you.
 
I tend to drop the boost so the finger don't show during summons. I think the summons are great and it gets crapy to always see a little finger with an X on it sometimes. During storyline yeah its important but after you level enough its no longer needed, or put it better its only an option. Its your opinion that matters. You can use it or not.
 
GFs that don't Boost are: Diablos, Carbuncle, Cerberus, and Cactuar. These GFs either deal a set amount of damage or buff your party, so there's no need for them to even have Boost.

Keep in mind, though, that it's not mindless button-mashing...you've got to be careful of the X that appears (quite randomly) to send you back to 75. I've sometimes lost some crucial Boosts because I got a little overzealous. >_>

Also, don't worry if you can't Boost to 250 often...I could only ever get Eden to 250. Most of the summoning sequences simply aren't long enough to allow a full Boost.
 
I don't see how anyone can even get a 250, your hand would have to be moving at like the speed of light.
 
I only got to 250 with Eden and I think it's the only GF you can boost that much. My best boost with a GF was around 170, don't remember if it was with Leviathan or Doomtrain.

Although...Hes in the deep research facility, bottom left of the map, you need the ragnarok to access it. If you need anything more precise create a new thread so as not to derail this one
