I am curious what others thought of the Echoes of the Fallen DLC that dropped earlier this week. The announcement was made during the Game Awards on Thursday and dropped the same day, with a follow-up DLC (Rising Tide) should drop in Spring 2024.

While Echoes of the Fallen was fairly anemic, measuring anywhere from 2 to 4 hrs of gameplay depending on skill-level, I had a blast. There is a nice gauntlet of classic bosses, a few new weapons available, and a bit of lore expansion. From all accounts, it seems that Rising Tide will be three times as long with more lore and exploration.

As I played it, I realized I suck at gaming lol BUT since even I made it through, I have to admit, the playthrough was at least mildly challenging and the battle mechanics were on par w/ some things from FF14. Also, Soken flexed on the various tracks for the DLC and I can't wait to see what he does for Rising Tide.

Furious.

Many pre-release interviews with Yoshi-P stated the game was complete and there wouldn't be any extra DLC, yet here we are. Like most DLC the problem comes from the timing. I've already beaten the game, the narratiev is over, so it doesn't work to dive back midway into the experience and insert missing pieces - it's Final Fantasy XV again folks!

Rant aside, the content for Echoes of the Fallen seems to be very minimal - It's basically an added dungeon. Seems rather forgettable.

The Rising Tide however is a problem. The games story was heavily reliant on Eikons, it's not like this wasn't planned. We all saw the mural in the throne room of sanbreque - So YES S-E WE ALL KNOW IT WAS ABSENT! it's a real problem with greed in the industry, I want to buy a game, enjoy the experience (That i've paid full RRP for) & move on. But with the social media age we live in, games have to have on-going online presence - hence witholding content that should of been in the game.

Will I buy the DLC...? Not for a VERY long time, I might want to try replay the game yeasr down the time but honestly I have a lot of problems with the game and ranking it among the series it would be on the lower end of the spectrum.

I found it enjoyable enough and liked the extra lore for the Fallen, i wish we had more of that in the base game, felt like there was a lot ot potential to explore the lore there and it was just totally missed. That said it was like extra short even for a dlc, i played through on Final Fantasy Mode and just about scraped through at level 98, i did enjoy that final battle though i must admit. Its a shame that the next dlc being leviathan related is most likely gunna be pre origin as I wouldn't mind seeing something post game ending which i know wouldn't work it being eikon related. I may dive back in and get my level to 105 before the next one rolls around, or i may even just do another run through just before it drops so it can flow with the story rather than a year later. Im assuming it will be a fair bit larger than echoes of the fallen considering i paid 20 quid and that alone was only 8 quid
