I like to flee/escape battles to try to complete an RPG quicker. However the developer usually ends up outsmarting people who use this tactic by making bosses or an ending boss really tough so that, if you escaped a bunch of battles, you now have to spend the time you saved level-grinding to make up for it in order to be tough enough to defeat said boss.

In the long-run, fleeing battles takes away EXP which could have gained you levels to help you, and you'll end up more weak and might have to skip additional battles over it which you actually wanted to complete. As I get more experienced playing such games, I kind of curb my sloppy ways of playing which an ideal player perhaps might not have used.

I very rarely run from battles...I'm the kind of person who power-levels in RPGs, so I don't usually need to. I normally train around a save point/inn/whatever will restore my health until I can comfortably take on anything the game throws at me, and then I set out, fighting everything as I go.

There is nothing worse than not being able to run from a battle when you need to...it drives me INSANE when my characters refuse to flee, or flee too slowly so one of them gets killed before they can escape :rage:

Fleeing battles is kind of a regualr thing I do...........When I play RPG games it not for me mainly because of the gameplay but rather for the story of the game. Also like you I don't it when you eventually do have to end up levelling up just to beat the boss..........but hey games have to be challeging right?

And also I don't really skip much battles on my first play-through...........I do find it REALLY annoying etting caught up in battles after when I can just easily kill the enemy.........

I rarely flee from battles I like to power-level as much as I can so I can take on any monster or boss the game has but if I have played the game before I level up enough to get by all the monsters but still leave a challenge when facing the bosses.

In the long run you are screwed if you run from too many battles because if you get really far in the game by escaping all the time you will not be able to beat the monsters in the area and you will waste a lot of potions and items trying to fight the monsters and reach a high enough level so you can beat the boss and continue on with the story.

Also like you I don't it when you eventually do have to end up levelling up just to beat the boss..........but hey games have to be challeging right?

RPGs have a tendency to go with 'time-consuming' over 'challenging' when trying to ramp up the difficulty. Although it sure does get trying for one's patience, there really is no challenge involved in beating weak enemies over the head for hours on end.

I'm pretty good at playing games badly: I run constantly. Even on my first playthrough, I'll probably spend almost as much time running as I will fighting. Being a complete and utter packrat, I'd rather not dip into my inventory of herbs, potions and elixirs if I can help it, so if the enemies in the area I'm in are able to put a hurtin' on me, I try to avoid any and all confrontation while rushing to the next town/safe spot/what have you. Of course, I'll immediately return to explore the places I skipped past, just to make sure I didn't miss out on any important items, but I'll still be running from monsters--otherwise I'll forget where I came from and where I'm going.

Then I'll come across a boss that smashes me into oblivion, and I'll be forced to level-grind for a while because I spent the last couple of hours behaving like a timid mouse, but I'm kinda fond of the routine.

I rarely flee from battles, if ever. I try and get everything I can out of whatever monster I come across even if it's minimal EXP or minimal GIL or crap items. I get more entertainment out of actually completing the battle rather than running, even if it does annoy me to hell when you seem to hit a monster every other step. Final Fantasy XIII was one of those games that was absolutely pointless to run anyway since you heal after every battle and if you lose you can retry anyway. :rage:

I don't run very often when it comes to battles. Only when I'm so ridiculously overpowered that they can't do damage to me, or when I meet the resident, super rare, unnaturally difficult bastard in comparison to the other monsters and can't win.

I don't tend to power level. I get to the point where I can comfortably deal with monsters, then tack on a couple of extra levels in case I'll be dealing with a boss. And besides, some games reward you for not running. Final Fantasy X-2's The End Garment Grid springs immediately to mind.

I never run from battles when I encounter something in an rpg. The ONLY exception is if one of my party members dies or are out of MP and there's no item to heal or cure it(Dragonquest :hmph:) but anyway I like to be prepared for tough fights. There's nothing worst than getting to a boss and having to replay the battle 5 times in order to win it. I just crush the bosses and merrily move along. Plus I hate being under-levelled. I like the story aspect of the game but in order to get my moneys worth I like to spend a good chunk of time fighting and getting experienced rather than rushing through the story under-levelled and what not.

I used to flee from battles all the time until I asked someone else I knew how they got so strong in an rpg game and their answer was simply "I never run from battles"....I became a power hungry whore after that. :wacky:

Well if I am really interested in the story and random encounters or just battles in general are getting annoying I tend to run away from everything cause I want to see what happens next. If there is a really tough enemy however and it gives good exp and items Ill fight it. Or if it gives an acheivement/trophy etc. When I am going for grinding I never run away however unless I am near death. Though I do hate those rpgs that have multiple enemies in a row without saving. It is really piss off worthy if you end up dying. Also if I am overpowered I will never run away unless something is more overpowered than me xD

Only as a last resort, i.e. party is dying, and I'm out of MP and/or supplies. And that rarely ever happens to me. I tend to just kill everything in the way, particularly if it's a random battle. I detest mindless grinding, but I still do my fair share of it now and then in anticipation for tough end of dungeon bosses ahead. I do remember in FFXII I had Vaan run for his life when that dinosaur in the Dalmasca Estersand ran after him. That was the only recent instance of running I can remember.

I try not to run too much when I play RPGs because in the end, all it really does is makes me get my ass kicked later. The only time I really run from something is if either a)I am pressed for time and need to save it, or b)the enemy I am going against I absolutely know it will kick my ass. Any other time, I usually fight it.

I don't tend to run from battles very often. I generally don't mind battling in RPGs and like most people have mentioned, the battles are essential if you want to finish the game.

If I encounter a high-leveled monster that's kicking my ass (like the elementals in FFXII or FOEs in Etrian Odyssey), I'll attempt to run. For some reason, a lot of RPGs make it very difficult to escape from battle which kind of sucks if you're on the verge of getting killed. And in turn-based games, it ends up wasting a turn for everyone and the monsters get a free hit. :hmph:

I only do it when Ive had enough :wacky:

If Im dungeonj crawling and Im lost or its just taking forever, i just get fucked off and start fleeing battles

thats pretty much the only time I fle unless I know im about to get shat all over

I only flee from battles when I know I can't win, when I need to conserve HP and MP for a boss, or when I just get plain sick of the battle screen and want to the plot to hurry up and develop. The latter is the lesser used excuse.

Other than that, I often stick around for battles, the goods make it worthwhile, more often than not.

The only times I flee in battles are if the monsters I am fighting are so under my level that its just a pain to fight then and only earn like 10exp.

the other time is if I know i am way to under leveled to fight the monster I am up against, so I will try to flee before he gameovers me!

I'll flee a fight if it seems unwinnable, though mostly if I'm in those fights, I usually end up getting party-wiped before I can flee. In some games, though, it is impossible to flee a fight (Record of Agarest War), and you're pretty much SOL.

I only run from battles I won't win. If my characters are running on low HP, obviously I'll choose to flee rather than face defeat. Otherwise, I never run. Wouldn't want to give those monsters the satisfaction in thinking they scared me away.

Fleeing from fights is something i don't do when gaming, i'll fight anything, even if said monster is super powerful (behemoth's of FFX usein comet when they die. . . damn shoopuffers) but i do soldier on through fights, and push as hard as i can until the fight ends, be it with my death or the fiends

I'll flee if I'm over trained... Like my level is too high, and all it does is give me a few experience points that doesn't really help. Also, if I am dangerously low on HP, I'll flee like there is no tomorrow. Or I'm out of MP...

Wow, I flee a lot -.-

I never flee from battles!

*lie*

Actually, I do flee, if there's a reason. Example A. Out of healing items/mp for healing. Hell yeah I'm running. Example B. If it's a waste of my time. Let's see... the best example would probably be going back to Fire Cavern in FF8 when your at disc 3. Why bother fighting?
