This is based on a conversation which took place on our Discord earlier today. People ended up discussing foods which they can't stand which led to a mini civil war about steak preferences...

Are there any food items which you can't stand to eat or to watch other people eating?

-

I visited Disney World in Florida when I was little and saw countless people buying massive turkey legs. The stood there holding these legs and tearing into them with their teeth whilst juices and blood (or red blood-like juices) flew everywhere and dripped onto their shirts. At least it seemed that dramatic to me at the time. It was like observing a particularly rude medieval banquet. It was quite an unpleasant experience for me and I didn't give it a try, but apparently they are quite popular.

What about yourselves?

FUCKING MUSHROOMS

FUCK MUSHROOMS. THEY'RE SLIMY, GROSS, DON'T BELONG IN FOOD, AND ARE ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. IF THE EARTH COULD TAKE A SHIT, THEY WOULD BE MUSHROOMS. MUSHROOMS AND EVERYONE WHO LIKES TO EAT MUSHROOMS ARE AWFUL, HORRIBLE, AND DESERVING OF A SLOW AND PAINFUL DEATH BY WOODCHIPPER.

FEET FIRST.

EDIT RANT: TOO LONG HAVE MUSHROOM LOVERS BEEN ALLOWED TO PLAGUE FOOD. IT'S TIME TO END THIS NONSENSE AND BREAK THE CHAINS OF "ACQUIRED TASTE" WHICH IS REALLY JUST THE STOCKHOLM SYNDROME OF TASTE. STOP EATING MUSHROOMS. PEOPLE WHO LOVE MUSHROOMS ARE BAD PEOPLE. I DEMAND FREEDOM FROM MUSHROOMS.

Mayo. It's absolute gick to me!

I don't know why - it's the consistency maybe. I love eggs so much!

I can't touch mayo - none at all. Keep it away from me.

Fun fact, the 'blood' you commonly see in meat is actually called myoglobin.

About steak, I'm one of those disgraceful people who cook their steak till it's tough and colorless. I've tried eating my steak rare but there is just something about the texture of it that really is off-putting to me. I almost never order steak when we go out because it just seems like a disgrace and an insult to steakhouses.

Jalapeños. Hate them. The taste, the texture, the hotness - everything. Once they've touched my other food it's just not the same, it's tainted.

I can take cilantro in small doses. I remember going out to eat for father's day once with my father in law at his favorite restaurant. It was some kind of burrito... but when I started eating I remember just being absolutely appalled with each bite I had. I didn't want to be rude or anything so I kept eating it, but I remember just trying to take big bites as fast as I could to get it over with. I'm not sure if whatever mixture they put in there was accidentally concentrated or what but ever since I have tried my best to avoid it.

Red cabbage. Also a texture thing.

I can handle most foods even if I don't particularly like them, but in appropriate settings I take off thick or under-cooked onions, thick cut tomatoes or sometimes peppers. Most of my complains with food really come down to texture. I think until I was an adult I didn't eat certain cheeses because I hated the texture. Cheeseless pizza, can you imagine? I've since recovered... mostly.

Omg, Ringo, I love mushrooms! Come at me! :mokken:

Now melons--absolutely disgusting. Never met a melon that I liked. They're all gross, weird, flavorless, watery things masquerading as food. Ick. Also liver. I shouldn't even have to elaborate on that one.

Besides the obvious hotness this basically sums up my opinion on pickles. Just the smell of them alone makes me want to vomit. I can't see how anyone could ever want to drink pickle juice.

Another food that really disgusts me is mushrooms. Though not to Ringo's extent of putting people through woodchippers. :P

I also can't stand carrots. Even the greatness of Ranch Dressing can't salvage the taste of that one.

So much hate for mushrooms! I love to use the huge mushroom caps in lieu of sandwich bread from time to time! Mushrooms don't belong on everything, but they are pretty darn tasty!

 My brother was subjected to this haircut as a kid and I totally called him Mushroom head growing up! Thanks for the laugh!

So sad! I love pickles! Not sure I'd drink the juice though, I don't get that either! Mm, pickles are great for a quick snack!

I'm not sure how it is in other places, but I remember middle/high school offering jumbo pickles ( :tehe: ) as a sellable option during lunch periods.

Time-to-time I'll even buy the big jars (though mostly for the jar, but I digress) with the big pickles so I can eat them as a snack with the kiddo.

Yes!

I hate mushrooms too! When they are all cut up they look like little slugs. I don’t eat slugs, so that’s probably why I don’t like mushrooms.

When I have food which contains mushrooms I pick them out and leave them at the side of my plate. They end up in the bin but maybe I should throw them back out into the garden with their brethren.

You would use mushrooms instead of bread? So did that mean spreading butter and cheese/marmite/pickle/nutella/tomato/mayonnaise or whatever on mushrooms?

I always feel sick after eating melon. I merely have to lick a melon and my stomach feels like it has filled with water. Or a xenomorph which wants to burst out from my chest.

I don't mind seeing others eating melon though. I mean, I wouldn't watch someone eat a melon for entertainment, but it wouldn't make me feel ill if someone happened to be eating a melon in front of me.

Any kind of fish. "Seafood" is an oxymoron and if you eat anything that falls under this category you are an inhuman monster and should be ashamed.

...seriously, the smell of fish actually makes me physically ill.
