This thread is about recommending people with games that you have experience or have already played that others might haven't.

I personally recommend those people who haven't played Call of Duty Modern of Warfare 2 and Dissidia Final Fantasy. These two games are very awesome and fun to play. So if you haven't bought them please do so, especially Call of Duty Modern of Warfare 2. You won't be disapointed on buying this game. Trust me, you will enjoy playing it.

I recommend Xenogears. It may be hard to find these days but it's honestly one of the best games I've ever played. The story is superb and the characters are well-developed. I enjoyed the battle system both in and out of the Gears. It had a great soundtrack as well. I also thought it provided a decent challenge as opposed to a lot of recent RPG games.

I also recommend Dante's Inferno for those who hasn't bought it yet. The story is great, the gameplay is awesome, the boss battles are insanely tough, the sound effects and the picture quality are outstanding. It is a awesome game!

Lost Odyssey
Kingdom Hearts I and II
Battlefield Bad Company
Batman Arkham Asylum
Ratchet and Clank 1-3 (haven't played the PS3 ones)
Jak and Daxter
GRAW 2

That's all I can think of. Ratchet and Clank as well as Jak and Daxter are both phenomenal platformers, although I prefer Ratchet and Clank. The guns are awesome in that game. Arkham Asylum is a hell of a ride. The combat is incredible in that game, and nothing feels better than racking up big chains. Battlefield Bad Company is like MW2 except more team-oriented. Also the first Battlefield game with a half decent single player mode. GRAW 2 is an EXTREMELY overlooked TPS that has, by far, the most addicting co-op mode I've played. No respawns, so you can't just go kamikaze like you can in Halo. Great, great, game. Kingdom Hearts I and II both get real time fights right, with II providing more improvement than I. On the easy side, but both games are must buys. Lost Odyssey is a must buy for any JRPG fan that owns a 360. The story is absolutely BRILLIANT, with possibly the saddest moment in gaming (move over Aerith). The gameplay has a classic feel to it, with some newer additions. Absolutely phenomenal, and my favorite game so far this gen.

I have to recommend the revamped Fallout 3 to everyone. It's such a great game that blends both survival-horror, RPG, and adventure all into one. It has a great storyline and a great combat system. Definitely replayable as there are a variety of different ways to complete the game by virtue of changing your morality now and then.

I second that Tadao.

But I disagree about the storyline. The setting is fantastic, but the main storyline in ivolving the Lone-Wanders father etc is average at best. I actually would say it's outright poor.

However, that's whats great about the game. All the other storylines/quests are brilliant- intelligent and fun. In paricular The Pitt is brilliant from an intellectual stand point.

Hmm, I recommend:

  1. Final Fantasy XIII
  2. Fable II
  3. Assassin's Creed
  4. Lost Odyssey
  5. Lips
  6. Guitar Hero
  7. Uncharted 2

But for other consoles stuff like The Sims 3 is always a good play. World of Warcraft, etc. They are cracking fun.

Game: Warcraft III: The Reign of Chaos (PC)
Comments: Hard to find these days, but a pretty awesome game. Multitasking is heavily needed in later missions, but is still good. Four races, each with unique abilities, and if done right you can build an entire army of warriors that can utterly destroy a hapless foe. Plus, the story and campaign missions are very cool. I also recommend its expansion set, The Frozen Throne.

Games: Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong's Quest
Comments: SNES versions are rare finds, but there's always the GBA remakes. Though you need excellent "jumping" skills on tough levels, most of the time you're just stomping on enemies (gotta love that "OH!" sound they make when they die). The soundtracks are nice on both. I'd also recommend the third installment, but the first two are way better.

Game: Donkey Kong 64
Comments: GREAT game for the N64. Graphics are pretty nice for a 1999 game, and some enemies are hilarious. A few things it shares with former DK game installments is that its soundtrack will keep playing in your head and the "Game Over" sequence is just...wow. Like all other games, it kinda makes you think "I should have tried harder."

Game: Duke Nukem: Zero Hour (N64)
Comments: Back when 3D Realms was at its prime! Cool weapons, lots of blood, and it's Duke Nukem! When I was younger I laughed at most of his lines, especially ones with movie references, like this one: "I'm going to need your clothes, your boots, and your horse. Um, forget the horse."

Game: Max Payne (PS2)
Another shooting creation from 3D Realms. I passed this game a few times, and there's reasons I keep playing it. Great storyline with plot twists, "bullet time", and okay weapons. Plus, some scenes with the mob are funny.

I also recommend the Jak & Daxter series, Ratchet & Clank 1 2 3 and Deadlocked, and Kingdom Hearts. As for FF games, I'd say II and IX.

Fot the xbox 360,what will keepy you busy and addicted is:

Batman arkam asylum(rpg)
Modern warfare 2(shooter online)
Darksiders(rpg)
Halo 3(if your new to the franchise then this game will get you addicted)

usually, rpg games are games to sell later on when you get all achievements in the game.

I'd recommend
N64- Ocarina of Time, Donkey Kong 64, Majora's mask, Banjo Kazooie/ toowie
Gamecube- Windwaker
PS2- rouge Galaxy, Kingdom hearts, Jak and Daxter series, Ratchet and Clank

Oh, right! Ocarina of Time is a MUST! I really forgot about it. It's such an awesome game. I like Saria's Song and Bolero of Fire.

Since two Zelda games have already been mentioned, I'll mention one I didn't see...

Zelda: Wind Waker. Really a must-play even if you don't like the style.

I'd highly recommend "Resonance Of Fate". A fresh RPG with an insane john woo style battle system. This was what cheered me up after taking back the disappointment which was FFXIII.
The story isn't as strong and lengthy as a traditional RPG, it's more episodic with an underlying main plot. Easier described as similar to Cowboy Bebop, you have episodes which are unrelated to the main plot and every so often you have an important main theme episode.
The character interaction (scripts n' such) are top notch, they interact like real people and at times you can relate. Also there's quite abit of humour, it might seem cheesy at times but you'll find yourself grinning.
The steampunk scenery is also pleasing to the eye and a welcomed change from traditional themes.
Finally there's quite abit of customization. Weapon customization is huge as you use guns throughout the game (i think there are 9 types in total) and can make insane blueprints which give you the upper hand stats wise. Clothing customization is a nice addition and there are plenty of choices (which also appear fully in movies) from hair dye to contact lenses to jackets and jeans aswell as sunglasses
.

Bottom line, it's worth a buy

I'd agree with Oblivion_XIII on Rogue Galaxy.

I'd also have to recommend:

Okami (PS2) - beautiful and original action/adventure game, I've heard it be compared to Zelda games in that respect. Story is based on old Japanese legends and the art style is like a Japanese watercolour painting, and the 'celestial brush' mechanic was something I found really neat.

Suikoden V (PS2) - Although it's the only Suikoden game I've played, it's a great game. Definitely a different spin on the JRPG genre. The game focuses on political and national threats rather than world-wide threats, and while the political intrigue doesn't match FFTactics in any sense, it's nowhere near as boring as XII, either. A recurring plot element in the series is the 108 Stars of Destiny, who are - wait for it - all characters who join your party! While quite a few of these characters fill support/plot/shopkeeper roles, as opposed to battle-capable party members, many more DO fight, and ALL characters get a decent amount of development and backstory considering how many of them there are, although much of the development comes from optional game features, such as 'Baths', were certain character combinations - of the same gender, pervs - allow you to view scenes where the characters interact casually.
Battles are pretty fun to play, grinding is not usually necessary and never TOO overbearing when it is, and there are also tactical battles on birds-eye view maps, which follow a rock-paper-scissors mechanic, and can be on both land and sea.
Overall, a great and pretty unique RPG experience. There is a HELL of a lot to do, as many of the Stars of Destiny are optional and require their own small quest to recruit, as well as some being missable, and the amount you manage to find can also affect your storyline ending! It's a massive game in terms of optional content, and the storyline is pretty good and well-told too.

Grandia 1 (PS1) and 2 (PS2) - Ports of their original versions, which were released on the Sega Saturn and Sega Dreamcast respectively, explaining their inferior graphics to other RPGs of their era. However, despite this, both feature decent voice-acting in certain scenes, and interestingly, your characters actually participate in conversations with NPC's, rather than being silent apart from in storyline sequences.
Not connected storyline-wise, but both great and often overlooked RPGs. Battles are dynamic and interesting if you choose to delve into the mechanics, but the mechanics themselves are simple and easy to pick up. Characters are fun and likeable, if sometimes kind of cliche, but they don't affect the games negatively.
As for the storylines themselves, they're pretty interesting, but not TOO deep.
Grandia 1 involves two kids in a sleepy port town who long for adventure, and after a few hours into the story they depart for the new continent at the behest of a spiritual entity linked to a lost civilisation, even at one point what is considered by many to be the 'End of the World', a colossal wall spanning the entire horizon that no one has ever been able to cross. Many characters join and leave, with your party never numbering higher than four, and can be as low as two, but characters who leave permanently leave behind items that add their own weapon and magic proficiencies to another party member, so that your efforts to level these characters is never in vain. Though there are quite a few shocking twists, the structure and general purpose of your journey is clear early on, and the final battles feel very much a culmination of your journey, one that is inevitable.
To contrast, Grandia 2 is significantly different in atmosphere, with the protagonist being late rather than early teens, and being cynical and sarcastic (but in a funny way) as opposed to fun-loving and light-hearted. The game takes on religious tones much more than the 'ancient civilisation' that was the focus of the first, and the older, more jaded players may not find the final plot twist too surprising, I was about 9 or 10 when I first played, and it kind of shocked me.
Both are amazingly fun to play, although I suppose they may cater to different tastes, which 1 being lighter and 2 being darker in tone.
Also, if you like romantic elements in your games, 1 features a rather naive and innocent approach to the protagonists romance, due to the guy being a bit of a moron in the area. Their romance does blossom and come into itself during the second disc, though. 2 features a love triangle, between the main protagonist, a pure-hearted church girl, and a part of the Devil incarnate. Their character dynamics are pretty interesting, and although it seems to be a main theme at the end of the game the romance is somewhat subdued throughout your quest.
As a detriment, neither Grandia offers much in optional content, other than an optional dungeon or two, so replay value can be limited.

Edit: Sorry for the ridiculously huge quasi-review. o.0 I guess I get carried away when I talk about games I really like... lol.

Sorry but...Starcraft 2.

Long-awaited sequel to the 12-year old game that defined how RTSs should be played in years to come. 3 races to choose from, highly strategic, fast-paced and, more fascinatingly, combines strong RPG elements with updated RTS mechanics.

Plus a horribly brilliant plot to go with it.

Dissidia Duodecim 012 Final Fantasy

I highly recommend this game for those of you who haven't bought it yet. The storyline is great, awesome battle system, great online game play and so much more. It is more challenging than the first Dissidia.

I'll try hard not to sound fangirly.

Okami: Most gorgeous game to ever grace the PS2, and an awesome action/adventure.

Persona 4:
Part of a dying breed, old-school RPG with turn-based combat and more things to do than you know what to do with. It's probably the best in the series.

Flower: A little game that can take you a long way, on the PSN. It's got no other purpose other than to relax you and put you in a zen mood. Great as a break between frustrating games. All you do is control a stream of flower petals, bloom flowers and gather more petals...and feel good.

The Undergarden: Another PSN jewel. If you like cute and quirky designs and puzzle games, the Undergarden might be for you. Control an adorkable sprite and venture through a series of subterranean gardens, blooming flowers and tackling creative obstacles.

ICO and Shadow of the Colossus: If you haven't played these masterpieces of Team ICO you have not experienced gaming as an art. If you play these and do not cry, you have no soul.

Dante's Inferno: A very underestimated game, God of War fanboys love to trash it because 'it rips off Gow'. Well Gow can go hang itself, this game has a more compelling storyline, a hero who still behaves like a fuckin' human being while still being a killing machine, and a vision of Hell that would make Dante Alighieri proud of us. Rarely have I seen a game that takes such unbridled GLEE in disgusting and creeping you out with it's visuals and design. It even offers you a motivation you will not contest for the final boss. You'll want to get rid of a sight you can't possibly unsee...Yes, you'll want to get rid of Satan ASAP, so that you don't have to look at his huge junk flapping about in the wide open while you fight him. Trust me, that's INCREDIBLY MOTIVATING.

Folklore: A 'forgotten' title of the earliest days of the PS3. This game features a uniquely dreamlike sequence of worlds and storyline, fascinating characters and a deeper mystery you just have to solve. Combining Celtic myth with fairy-tale attitude it throws a twisted and sinister little streak into tales of fairies and folk legends.

Old Games:

Baldur's Gate series (PC)
This 4 part game (BG1, Tales of the sword Coast, BG2, Throne of Bhaal) has a compelling storyline with tons of twists and turns, plenty of paths and choices that affect you and your allies. Every single character from the recruitable NPCs to the villains are fully fleshed out and varied, from the hilarious and crazy Minsc to the serious and fact of the matter Jahiera. And Jon Irenicus of BG2 is arguably the greatest villain ever. The game is huge, immersive and filled with tactics, puzzles, traps and moral choices.

Okami (Wii, PS2)
Not only one of the most graphically beautiful games, but also another greatly immersive game. The gameplay is unique and fresh and the story is brilliant. You really get into the world, and there are plenty of puzzles to tackle.

Shining Tears (PS2)
I have always loved the Shining series. It's a very tactical yet also hack-n-slash game with MANY multiple endings and many different allies, each one with their own personalities, their own sidequests, and their own endings (dependent on which one you use most throughout the game), and a very interesting story.

New Games
Dark Souls (PS3/XBox 360)
This game brings back the insane difficulty of the days of the NES, where you have to learn patterns, figure out puzzles and take big risks. The PvP and Co-op is rather broken though, which is a failing that could cripple what is otherwise an awesome game, so it is recommended that you play through in offline mode until they fix these problems. Aside from the co-op and PvP, this game is otherwise gold. It's punishing and at times ruthless, but very rewarding as well.

Resident Evil games

PSP:

Final Fantasy: Dissidia and Dissidia 012
God of War PSP titles

PS3:

I don't have many PS3 titles, but what titles I have played:

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil ORC
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Does anyone have any good PSP PSX/PS2 games to recommend? As you can see, I am lacking in PSP. :gasp: Some things I like: RPGs & great music. But I have no idea what PSP titles are fun, so I don't want to waste money getting it so it turns out to be boring. Oh, and some PSX/PS2 games. xD
