Okay, so I was playing this 'grand strategy game' called Victoria: Empire under the Sun, which many of you might have never even heard of in your life.
But the fact is, this game is just pure addicting, not to mention it is one of the toughest games ever developed, because on one hand you have diplomatic matters to take care of and on the other neighbors declaring war on you.

Tough tough game.
And to top it all off, my game crashes if you don't save it every hour. :monster:

So I was uber pissed when it did this afternoon.
But now I have the urge to play it again. Why? I have no clue.

Question is, have you ever had the experience of loving a game to the death, until something horrible happens and you just throw it away, and then you crawl back to it just because....?

Final Fantasy VII quite a lot. Grand Theft Auto is a game I won't play for months and go back to it. Donkey Kong Country.

There are the main 3 I go back to so far.

well warb, the same thing happened to me with final fantasy tactics...

i thought i had the best party ever, all my guys were around level 45-50 and they were all mastered at their classes...then i met wiegraf in chapter 3...

he just completely owned me and i didnt have any of the proper abilities for fighting someone as tough as him, he completely caught me off guard.

to top if all off, i didnt save more then one file, and it saved where it goes right back into the battle...so i was stuck.

but i started a new game and was around level 60 when i fought him (i REFUSED TO LOSE again) with all of the abilities i could ever need, and i killed him quite simply. and my friend, it was well worth it ^_^

i keep going back to doom 3

i never did finish it cuz i felt like i was gonna get a heart attack everytime i played, but once in like every 2 months, i go back to it and play it for like 15 minutes before i go back to my other games.

but besides that, im playing ff7 right now for like the fifth time, ive beaten it four times and i still dont get tired of it

That happens to me all the time and it gets me angry in a snap. I did that on a LoTR game once, on FFVII, twice, you know in one of those scenes where you can't turn back but you can only face the boss kind of scenarios.

Done that loads of times, especially in that strategy game I was talking about.
I saved at a point where, after 1 year (game time, approx. 5 minutes) the Russians would declare war on the Germans (me), and I get pwned every single time, no matter how much I scramble for the buildup. >.<
To top it all off, revolutions, revolts, and increased expenses are tearing my 'nation' to bits.

Then the French come in, and declare war on me, so it's obvious I quite after there. :monster:

Little rant.

Pokemon, i loved the game to death and played it everyday. infact the 2 kids over the road caught all 151 pokemon without cheating O_O

then i grew up

but then they make new pokemon say i went back to it ^_^ i felt like 3 years old again :P

I don't know how many times this has happened to me when playing sierra adventure games.

I accidentally saved a game on King's Quest where each time I loaded, I was falling to my death.

In King's Quest 5, I saved a game where I had tied a rope to the wrong ledge and each time I tried to climb it, I'd fall and die. And there was no way to get the rope back so I had to start all over.

In Quest for Glory 4, there's the infamous Error 52 each time you get to a certain area. On faster pc's, which is basically anything made after like 1994, you have to download a patch just to get past it. It's a bit annoying but I do it anyway because I love the game so much.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is a game I always keep coming back to because I love it a lot! It's loads of fun and I don't think I will ever stop playing it completely, it's my favorite from the series. It makes me laugh at lot as well which makes it even better. I love the randomness of it all!

Pokemon: Of course I always go back to playing these! They are so much fun and highly addictive. I don't think I could ever get sick of these games.

Final Fantasy VIII: My favorite game ever. I really enjoy replaying this game whenever I can because it's just superb edition to the Final Fantasy series in my opinion. It is loads of fun and very much addictive.

The Sims 1 & 2: Very, very, very addictive games indeed. Another game where you can get a lot of good laughs. More randomness! Random games are always good. I'm very cruel when it comes to the Sims, my people seem to always die. :P Not always by accident either.

So, game with the best replay value?
Probably Final Fantasy VII or IX. They both had a lot of extra stuff to do, and you could spend twice as long just doing them.
I always find myself drawn to Fight Night Round 3 for my PSP again. There isn't anything exceedingly special that makes you addicted to playing it; it's just really good fun.

Well i usually have to start and finish FFVII at least once every two years, as an experience:P

I also really get into MGS 2 & 3 once a year, and try to understand the really complicated story:rolleyes:

Fighting games, I go back to them all the time, 'cos there's always some little part of your game that could do with improvement. Randomly I'll go back to Street Fighter Alpha 3, King Of Fighters XI, Tekken 5 and Guilty Gear XX just to brush up. I'd go back to Street Fighter 3 but the XBox controller is NOT suited to fighting games....

Asides from that? Probably Guitar hero 2, or I would if my old flatmate hadn't ran off with it.

Dynasty Warriors 3 and Romance Of The Three Kingdoms VIII drag me back constantly as well, especially ROTK, there's somethign terribly engrossing about helping farmers to plow the fields before heading off to war.:)

I've replayed Front Mission 3 quite a few times though once I finish, I tend to start a new game....don't know why. Probably have played more than 300 hours on that game. Another game I have come back to play is FFX as I quite enjoy it....again, I've started a couple of times too.

I always go back to:-

A link to the Past
FF7
Suikoden 1 & 2
Tekken Tag Tournament

Civilization II

since I try to finish everything I bought, I don't get to revisit old titles as much as before, but I try to connect the C64 at least once a year.

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike is defiantly one, I used to play it all the time with pal but it was his copy so he took it with him when he moved away. Bought it off him after a few years and now my most played game of the last year, about to the point that I'm planning on going to a few competitions next year.

SCUMM games, particularly Monkey Island I-III, Full Throttle, Indiana Jones and The Fate of Atlantis and Sam & Max. Loved them 10 years ago and recently started buying them again and love them still. Seriously wish that Lucasarts or anyone really bring back the old point-and-click games of old.

Beyond that it's usually a small selection of games on the SNES or DC like Skies of Arcadia, Terranigma and Link to the Past.

NES: 1941, 1942, Super Mario Brother 1, 2 & 3, Legend of Zelda and Mike Tyson’s Punch Out!

SNES:
Super Mario World, Super Mario All-Stars, Super Punch Out & Donkey Kong Country 1, 2 & 3.

N64:
Mario 64, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time& 007 Golden Eye.

PSX:
Final Fantasy VIII & IX, Crash Bandicoot (All three) & Legend of Dragoon.

PS2:
Final Fantasy X, Ace Combats (All) & Grand Theft Autos (All).

I always go back to FFVII, VIII & X - timesplitters 2 & tony hawk3 are also quite addictive ( for me at least!) And nothing beats dusting off hte old snes & megadrive for a bash on sonic or mario!

Its mainly the Final Fantasys I return to, like 8 x and x2.
But also Legend of Legaia, Theme Hosptial and Sims 2.

Erm, I guess Beyond Good and Evil is sort of an example. I remember playing this in year 8/9 (3 to 5 years ago). I had a dream one night that spooked me, and it was based on the plot, so I didn't play it for a year...

After that year, I picked it up again and finished it. It was a good game! ^_^

Zelda is a game I don't get annoyed at, but I dip in and out of it all the time. I hated the idea of finishing Wind Waker 'cause I loved it, so I stopped playing it. I played Twilight Princess to death. I played it almost every day, all day for 5 days. Then I played it less and less 'til I grew a little bored. I'll go back to it soon!

My list includes:

Mike Tyson's Punch Out
Street Fighter 2/Alpha/3rd Strike
Marvel vs. Capcom 2,
Super Mario Kart
Unreal Tournament (on PC)
Double Dragon
