Here’s a fun thread for you all. List your gaming backlog here, whether it’s console, handheld, PC, or mobile games.

-What’s one game you know will probably never leave your game backlog?

-What’s one game you definitely will tackle this year, for real this time?

-At what point do you give up on a backlog?

-How do you deal with a giant gaming backlog? Do you ignore it and watch your collection grow? How about making a checklist, do a let’s play, or maybe reward yourself with more games after finally finishing a game?

Oh god you would create this topic wouldn't you? :wacky: As some people already know I am pretty horrible when it comes to backlogs. My backlog is spread out too wide on various game consoles and handhelds that I've pretty much accepted that I'll likely never finish them all. My backlog is so bad right now that I have an account on https://backloggery.com/ that I'm afraid to even bother updating because I have so many games to update on it. :(

I TRY to limit my purchases but sadly I am a sucker for sales. Either that or new games that I really want. I also try limiting myself to playing 1 RPG at a time but sadly it usually takes me at least a month to finish them.

Current games I am trying to complete for the first time on my priority list include:

1. Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem(DS) + Ace Attorney Investigations 2(DS). Trying to finish these games before my vacation ends.
2. Higurashi Ch. 3(PC)
3. The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky 3rd(PC)
4. God Eater Resurrection(PC) or Fire Emblem: Binding Blade(GBA)

I'm not going to bother making a whole list because I'll be here all night and nobody wants that. :lew:

Well here is a semi incomplete list, a good portion I have started but just moved onto other games, And it's spread out between PC now and ps4 with some PS2 thrown in there to mix it. Some 3ds or even vita games may find their way on here as well.

PS4
Horizon Zero Dawn
Metal Gear Solid V collection
Resident Evil 7
Secret of Mana
DragonBall Xenoverse 1 & 2
Tales of Berseria, Zesteria
Dishonored 2
Valkiryia Chronicles
Star Ocean 3-5(mix of all systems)
Digimon Cyber Sleuth 1 & 2
Digimon Next Order
Mass Effect Andronmea
Y's 8 Memories of Larcomisa
Skyrim

and i'll stop here for now or this list gonna keep growing.

DID SOMEONE SAY BACKLOG?

Below is the reason why I am still faffing around on PS3 and haven't bothered to pick up a PS4 or anything yet. Because look at it.

  • Assassin's Creed Revelations
  • Assassin's Creed Black Flag
  • Assassin's Creed Rogue
  • Watch_Dogs
  • Mirror's Edge
  • God of War's first HD collection
  • God of War's second HD collection
  • Jak & Daxter HD collection
  • Tomb Raider (2013)
  • Atelier Totori
  • Star Ocean: The Last Hope (I'm gonna vomit)
  • Kingdom Hearts: Re:Chain of Memories HD
  • The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II
  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (though I really don't want to play this on PS3...)
  • Fallout 3
  • Fallout New Vegas
  • Bayonetta
  • Batman Arkham Origins
  • Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir
  • LEGO Lord of the Rings
  • LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes
  • LEGO Harry Potter Years 1-4
  • LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7

And here are the games I feel like replaying sometime in the near/not-so-distant future:
  • Transformers: War for Cybertron
  • Transformers: Fall of Cybertron
  • Transformers: Devastation
  • Vanquish
  • Final Fantasy XIII-2
  • Just Cause 2
  • Sleeping Dogs
  • Assassin's Creed II
  • Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
  • Batman Arkham Asylum
  • Batman Arkham City
  • Bulletstorm
  • Kingdom Hearts II HD
  • Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep HD
  • Mass Effect
  • Mass Effect 2
  • Mass Effect 3
  • Tales of Xillia no I'm joking sod that boring game
  • Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
  • Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
  • Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception

And then there's the small collection of stuff I have on my laptop in my emulator folder, but let's not even get into that as it's technically mostly illegal, shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

QUESTION 1: -What’s one game you know will probably never leave your game backlog?

Star Ocean: The Last Hope; because it is scientifically impossible for me to get to the end of that damn game without suffering either a severe brain aneurysm or an uncontrollable urge to go punch a hyena in the face - whichever one is quicker and more practicable. The sad part is, there's a decent action combat system in that game. Blindsiding enemies to fit in a cheeky surprise hit on your enemies is quite fun. Unfortunately, the game is saddled with literally everything else. I want everyone in this game to perish a horrific death, preferably into the surface of the nearest star.

QUESTION 2: What’s one game you definitely will tackle this year, for real this time?

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II seems like a safe bet. I've recently played through the first game and despite its stupid anime quirks and cliches that caused me no small grief, I thought it was a solid enough lengthy game (not helped by my OCD-like insistence on reading absolutely everything) and I want to see how that cliffhanger is resolved with the sequel.

QUESTION 3: How do you deal with a giant gaming backlog? Do you ignore it and watch your collection grow? How about making a checklist, do a let’s play, or maybe reward yourself with more games after finally finishing a game?

I dunno, I just play whatever I feel like. If it so happens to be a member of my backlog, hurray!

I'm not in the business of buying out the entire Steam store like other people here (I am not mentioning any names... :watching: ) so it's unlikely that my backlog will grow into the size of a comprehensive list of ways Trump has absolutely embarrassed the whole of the human race.

CURRENT BACKLOG & ONGOING STRUGGLES

Final Fantasy XIV (don't talk to me, it's really not my fault, I swear)
Final Fantasy XV (the rest of the post main game stuff - come on that's not my fault either!)
Final Fantasy Type-0 (for the second play through)
Folklore (PS3)
Rise of the Tomb Raider (main game is on second replay but there's the other content to finish up too)
Tekken 7 (the last fight of the main story content is bogus crappy)

1. What’s one game you know will probably never leave your game backlog?
Final Fantasy XIV - First they gave us a Botanist class, then they let us grow flowers, damn you Square Enix! :shakefist:

2. What’s one game you definitely will tackle this year, for real this time?
Folklore - By my will it will be done. It's such a beautiful game and all, I am ashamed it has taken almost four years to finish :sadpanda:

3. At what point do you give up on a backlog?
I don't know what this means, I refuse... :mokken:

4. How do you deal with a giant gaming backlog? Do you ignore it and watch your collection grow? How about making a checklist, do a let’s play, or maybe reward yourself with more games after finally finishing a game?
I put up and shut up :griin:...ok, so I ignore it alright! :hmph: That's why half of my backlog isn't even posted above, it's a mess I tell you!

I'm not even going to post my entire backlog because, well, I'd be here all night. I'll just post a few highlights.

Paper Mario Color Splash
Lost Odyssey
Tales of Vesperia
Final Fantasy XIII (haha, I'm serious)
Final Fantasy XV
The Witcher 3
Skyrim DLC
Child of Light
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

-What’s one game you know will probably never leave your game backlog? FF XIII. In all seriousness, I probably will never get back to that game.

-What’s one game you definitely will tackle this year, for real this time? I'm going to go with Witcher 3 since it's in my PS4 right now.

-At what point do you give up on a backlog? Never give up! Never surrender!

-How do you deal with a giant gaming backlog? Do you ignore it and watch your collection grow? How about making a checklist, do a let’s play, or maybe reward yourself with more games after finally finishing a game? I just keep on keeping on. My collection continues to grow but I'll never stop wanting new games it seems.

Um my backlog is stupidly huge! Like astronomically so, I blame PS+ I grab the monthly games every month with the intent to play .... well ... none of them!
Actually not true, there are a few I just need to find the will or want to play them. The ones on that list as as follows

PS4
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil 6
Resident Evil (Yes there's a theme but 4,5,6 for £15 was just good to ignore)
Ratchet and Clank
Dead Nation
Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy XII
Far Cry 3
Far Cry 4
Far Cry 5
Far Cry Primal
Assassins Creed 4
Assassins Creed Syndicate
Batman Arkham Knight
Call of Duty Black Ops 3 (It was free!)
Dead Island Riptide
Devil May Cry Collection
Devil May Cry 4
Dragon Dogma .....
Just Cause 3
Mass Effect Andromeda
Metal Gear Solid V (Forgot I had this!)
Need for Speed Payback
Neverwinter
No Mans Sky
Sega Mega Drive Classics
The Elder Scrolls Online
The Witcher 3
Until Dawn

Um yea it's longer than I thought! And there's more I may get to one day, possibly!

-What’s one game you know will probably never leave your game backlog? Need For Speed Payback, I just cannot get to grips with the amount of changes they made and loot boxes are a personal hate of mine!

-What’s one game you definitely will tackle this year, for real this time? Resident Evil, I'm actually working on them, and did them on PS3 so no biggie. It's under control! Dark Souls Remaster on this targeted list as well, waiting on a friend to come over so I can wrap up Dead Nation as well. That last difficulty run alone is absolute murder!

-At what point do you give up on a backlog? When it gets that long and that's only about half of it! I also tend to give up when the next gens release, dread to think how long my PS3 backlog still is or was, or will be .... yea!

Okay...Fine...

Accounting for all systems, (PC, PS4, XB1), a lot of the games I own are doubles on PC and PS4.

As far as a backlog goes, I approach it a little different. I'm a completionist, through and through. If I am to truly consider a game being completed, I need to get the platinum trophy, or achievements. Until then, it is still part of the backlog. But that's also where I categorize some into - // Finished and // Completed.

Finished being that I finished the game, but necessarily all the feats. Completed being, everything in entirety. Trophies and such.

-What’s one game you know will probably never leave your game backlog?

Uhh...Probably an RPG game. Because those take time to do and complete.

-What’s one game you definitely will tackle this year, for real this time?

Uhmm.. I'll try to finish Witcher 3.

-At what point do you give up on a backlog?

I kind of just...stare at it and hope it does itself, but I never truly give up.

-How do you deal with a giant gaming backlog? Do you ignore it and watch your collection grow? How about making a checklist, do a let’s play, or maybe reward yourself with more games after finally finishing a game?

I've tried all those methods, some work, but it's ultimately up to me and my laziness. I can have the perfect plan, but I it never follows through.

And for LUL purposes, here's my steam account, just so you can browse through my sea of games. (Some are NSFW)

My backlog usually builds up over Christmas, because that's when I'll be dropping hints for the games I would like :P (And then there's the sales and I just can't resist!). I built up a bit last year - here is my list:

Games Incomplete:
Nier: Automata (finished the first playthrough but was doing the second)
World of Final Fantasy (I'm at the end, but got distracted by other games)
FFXIII: Lightning Returns (I was on the last day and then my PS3 got corrupted and I lost all my save data )

Games I haven't started:
Assassin's Creed Origins
Assassin's Creed Syndicate
Assassin's Creed Chronicles
Final Fantasy Type-0
Final Fantasy VI
Kingdom Hearts 2.8
Mass Effect: Andromeda

What’s one game you know will probably never leave your game backlog?
Probably one of the Assassin's Creed games - the latest ones haven't drawn me in as much as some of the older ones.

What’s one game you definitely will tackle this year, for real this time?

Final Fantasy VI (since a lot of people have told me how awesome it is)

At what point do you give up on a backlog?

I don't really give up on a backlog. They just stay on my list to be played . . . . eventually (hopefully!)

How do you deal with a giant gaming backlog? Do you ignore it and watch your collection grow? How about making a checklist, do a let’s play, or maybe reward yourself with more games after finally finishing a game?

I probably do watch it grow . . . but I try to start with the games that really draw me in (whether it's characters or storyline) because then that motivates me to finish it.

Let's seeeeee.

1) Assassin's Creed Origins. I'll finish this one day. ONE DAY.
2) God of War. Same as the above. I'll get back into it maybe. ONE DAY. I bought into the hype only to find the game and setting didn't interest me all that much. Could have been so much cooler.
3) Mass Effect Andromeda. Eh. Haha.
4) Dark Souls.
5) Witcher 2
6) Battlefield 1 campaign stuff
7) Ori and the Blind Forest
8) Battlefield 4 campaign stuff
9) Bloodborne
10) Halo Wars 2 story DLCs
11) Halo Wars 1
12) One of those Batman games
13) Mass Effect 2/3 replays
14) Witcher 3 + DLC replay

Hmmm I'm sure there's more but I really can't think of them right now. Maybe I'll come back to it.

-What’s one game you know will probably never leave your game backlog?
Unfortunately I don't think I'll ever touch the Witcher 3 again. The game is just too long and I'm finding my interest in long games diminishing quickly.

-What’s one game you definitely will tackle this year, for real this time?
I'd really like to finish Ori and the Blind Forest at some point. It's honestly a beautiful game.

-At what point do you give up on a backlog?
Probably never. I'll get around to them. One day. Haha.

-How do you deal with a giant gaming backlog? Do you ignore it and watch your collection grow? How about making a checklist, do a let’s play, or maybe reward yourself with more games after finally finishing a game?
That sounds far too exhausting! I play whatever I'm in the mood for on the day and that's about it shhhh. I have a tendency to forget about the games I own

Sadly for the last few years, gaming hasn't really been a pastime for me. So I've sort of been semi-retired, especially given all the responsibilities in life. But even in time periods that I don't play games, I do go back to them eventually. I'm kind of in an upswing of playing lately too, so maybe the backlog will take some damage.

So here we go:
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (currently working on)
Assassin's Creed Syndicate
Final Fantasy XV
Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Doom (even if for nostalgia sake)
New Super Mario Bros WiiU
Super Mario Bros Maker
Bravely Second
Four Warriors of Light
Tales from the Borderlands
Mario Kart 8 (I just need to conquer 200cc and time trials)
Rocksmith 2014 (mastering all the songs, 99% sure it will be never)
Final Fantasy XII Zodiac Age
Final Fantasy X/X-2 Remastered

-What’s one game you know will probably never leave your game backlog?
Rocksmith 2014 I'll never be fully complete with. I've unlocked all the songs, but some of them are hard to master even 50% of. As far as ones that I haven't played yet, probably Four Warriors of Light because I lost it. Seriously though, if you'll never get to it, you don't have enough interest in playing it.

-What’s one game you definitely will tackle this year, for real this time?
Final Fantasy XV is more-than-likely the next game. It's been a little while since I've played a traditional FF (I did play Type 0, but I think XIII was the last of the main series that I played. Maybe VI, I forget).

-At what point do you give up on a backlog?
I've given up several times and still come back. Life can beat you down and the backlog just grows. If you're a gamer, you never give up on the backlog.

-How do you deal with a giant gaming backlog? Do you ignore it and watch your collection grow? How about making a checklist, do a let’s play, or maybe reward yourself with more games after finally finishing a game?
It's a marathon, not a sprint. Even if it takes 30 years, it'll eventually go down. I go about it 1 game at a time. My rule of thumb is to wait until I'm done with one game before starting another. This kind of helps to prevent building a backlog of semi-finished games with a log of untouched games. Maybe keeps the backlog from getting too bloated.
