I bought Warcraft III and The Frozen Throne at the weekend after seeing a 2 for £15 deal which was awesome, I bought this at Game which is a first for a while since I'd prefer Gamestation for a great many reasons.

Now I installed Warcraft III which was fine but the code for Frozen Throne didn't work which struck me as weird until I noticed that the stupid fuckers put on the Instruction manual a sticker with the code for Warcraft III so I was inputting a code for the wrong game.

Of course I tried to replace it at the shop because I'd imagine that not giving me what I needed in the first place to make a game I spent my money on work would warrent a replacement but it was not to be.

For some stupid fucking reason Game won't accept trades unless you bring back the game in its original plastic wrapping, no exceptions. This means of course that I now have a game that I can't actually play and suffice to say I'm going to make it my New Years resolution to burn the fucking store to the ground.

Anyone else have similar experiences? What is your view of gaming stores in general?

That's really weird as I had done the same thing. I bought the Frozen Throne expansion pack from Game (Oxford Street in London) and when I went to install it, it didn't work because the code was for main game and not expansion. When I took it back, they said that other people had the same problem and it was most likely a printing problem at the factory so they went through about 8 copies until they found one with the right code.

Did you explain that it's not possible to play it due to the incorrect code? They should have at least gave you a refund. Perhaps you could try another Game store and see if it works there?

Yeah I showed them it and the guy was still a complete prick about it saying that they can't give me another copy because it's out of the plastic wrapping, I'm going to go back this weekend and see if I can speak to someone higher up so it should be alright. There's another Game on Princes Street so I'll try there if all else fails.

The game stores near me actually have a policy about PC games. "If you buy a PC game and unwrap it, the game is yours." Game stores around here are nice enough to take the PC game back if your code isn't working. They just send out the PC game as defected.

You can't really blame these Game stores for having these policies because of thieves. I do think they should bend the rules a bit because of situations that you're in.

Try using a friend's code? =/ Each code doesn't really a apply towards a account or a computer anyways. Maybe contact Blizzard costumer service and see what the say?

If you can't return it then... I would rather order the game online off of a website such as Amazon.

For the most part, I've had no trouble shopping at Gamestop or EBgames. In the past, they've broken store policies to help me out.

For instance, I had an Xbox 360 that was malfunctioning. The system would destroy ANY game/cd/dvd that was placed in the drive. In turn, my copy of Gears of War and Oblivion was destroyed.

I argued that since the malfunctioning Xbox 360 was to blame for the destruction of my games, they should be replaced. The dude at Gamestop agreed, but told me he wasn't authorized to just give me the games. He told me I'd have to take it up with Microsoft.

I DID take it up with Microsoft, but they told me they weren't responsible for items damaged by their product...which I found to be asinine. At any rate, I returned to Gamestop and told them of my situation. They kindly replaced my games and accepted my warranty for the Xbox 360, allowing me to get a new console.

So yeah...I've got a high opinion for the game stores I shop at.

Funnily enough, I too went to Game to pick up the WC3+Frozen Throne Combo.

But after hearing about the dodgy cd-key fiasco, I asked him to open it in the shop and after 10 minutes of explaining what was wrong, he finally accepted that I wasn't going to take Frozen Throne with a Reign of Chaos CD-Key.

For actual stores I don't actually have any that I trust more than the other, since Gamestation is owned by Game anyhow. You can tell now that less and less Retro games are being sold there.

Gamestation has a nice selection and some brighter sparks working there, so I guess I would have to say that I prefer Gamestation for my shopping needs.

Gamestation has brighter people no doubt but that tends to make me feel that I'm being judged. Once when I handed in a lot of games that I'd completed/had not intention of beating ever the guy seemed to be assessing what kind of person I was by the games I was handing in.

When he came across the FFVIII copy I had he actually wanted to know the exact reasons why I was handing it in, he actually appeared angry.

I got a working copy of Frozen Throne as well so it all ended ok, no GAME stores were burned down in the process either.

That would have been the point where is took the games off the counter, slowly walked out of the store and then laughed.

I've never shopped at Gamestation though, mine are usually bought online, from GAME or Woolworths mainly because Woolworths are fairly relaxed when it comes to refunding or changing games for a working one.

Honestly if I ran into a code problem like that I'd just go on the net and find one if the store was giving me a hassle.

I wouldn't want to continue arguing with the stores because I shop at the same stores over and over, thus they eventually know my face (I'm easy to notice / remember really) so I'll just surf the web and find a code.

Well, I went to GAME today at Oxford Street and got a PS3 along with other stuff. I traded in my old PSP (fat one) for a lot more than I was originally told it'd trade for. When I went for Christmas shopping, I was told it'd be £40 but when I went today, it was £65......and I forgot to put the AC adpater back in the box too. :D Ah, I like shopping at GAME. Plus I like their points system...unless I can buy a game cheaper elsewhere.:D

Game just dont accept PC games that have the wrapper off their fine with console games. its just incase you install the game use the code then take it back which is possible with games like mmorpgs and stuff.

in anycase i like shopping at game because they seem to employ anyone where as most people that work at gamestation seem to know things about games and age restricitons, im only 15 so i shop at game because im much more likely to get away with buying a 16+ at game

I'd have preferred to take the game back and smack him over the head with it but I still wanted the £15 for it.

I'm pretty sure that this happens with console games as well, I'm talking about returning the game for a full refund not trading it back in.

And I'll agree that GAME employees are not as great as in some places but it's not a good thing to allow you to have games you aren't allowed to have. But hell I did it myself back in the day.

oh right i dont think ive ever had to take a game back so im not sure, but i only get told that i cant bring it back when i buy a pc gam, ive never been told i cant bring a console game back before though

i brought back that stupid game the sims 2: castaway for psp 2 gamestop cause it has a glitch and shut off my whole psp and they wouldn't give me a refund b/c it had been opened. and i told them how in the fuck waz i suppossed to know it had a problem if i didnt open it and they said i coud've been lying and that all they could do waz let me trade it in 4 another game. i dnt really like that policy b/c i lost 42 dollars on that game and yea i got another game, but id rather have my money back instead

I bought my PSP from Game and found it had 3 dead pixels. They weren't going to take it back and give me a repalcement, but my mum said that if they didn't, she'd make them refund her for everything she'd bought at the time (games, memory card etc) and so they had to give in; my mum means it when she threatens people like that.

They don't actually let you give in any games anymore if they're not sealed. They seal up all games with a sticker, which kinda sucks. They used to allow people to trade games they didn't like for another. Now, you open it and it's yours no matter what you think of it.

I prefer gamestation for so many reasons. The stock's generally better, the prices generally are, you get more for your trade-ins, the staff seem less naive about games (the guy in Game couldn't even get the back off my old PSP and asked me to do it for him) and the people are just generally more helpful; I trust them more. Although most of the staff have left since Game bought gamestation. =/
