I'm surprised I didn't see a thread like this already created! Okay so, getting to the point, what do you guys name
Sarah
whenever she wants to nickname herself Dagger near the beginning of the game? Do you keep it as Dagger, or immediately change it back to Garnet like I *always* do? Either way, explain why you do it~!

For me I always, always, pick Garnet because I can't stand such a silly name for a princess! Dagger seems so masculine and uggh and Garnet is such a pretty name, I can't bear to ever change it! Wbu?

I've only played this game once so I don't have any variation to go off of. In that single playthrough, I named her Garnet. It just sounds better to me.

Well since Garnet is the name you see her with at first, I always go with Garnet...
Even though her real name was Sarah
But Dagger is just such a crappy name, and really minus that village no where else does she really Try to hide her identity... Kinda sad really.

I never went with Dagger. Garnet seems the better choice at the time, though at one point I did go with Sarah as well. Dagger is a very odd choice for a girl...I honestly would've been okay with any name for her as long as it wasn't Dagger.

I also changed her name instantly to 'Garnet'.

Garnet is a very pretty girl, and a princess too. Dagger is not a very pretty name. If she was a tomboy in rags wielding knives, then yes, I can see her as 'Dagger'. However Garnet truly seemed to fit the persona of Garnet much more. She was a summoner and a mage (even early on in the game before you could summon she dressed up as a White Mage in Alexandria), and her name fitted with the gems that you'd equip in order to summon monsters later on.

Before I even knew all of this, Garnet seemed to fit her more than Dagger.

Also, even though she was meant to be in hiding, they didn't make as big a thing about it than they suggested they would. I don't think Garnet ever seriously hid from anything after a point.

Only much later on in the game when she cut off her hair did she start to resemble a character that could fit the name 'Dagger'. She doesn't even use a dagger as a weapon, but instead uses a wand / staff. It just seems like an odd choice of name.

The fact that they let you change her name to anything other than Dagger is rather quirky and somewhat contradicting. In what state of mind would she be in to carefully pick up a Dagger, ask Zidane what it's called and then picks a completely different name? Especially if it's the same name she is not supposed to carry. I do understand that both Garnet and Dagger are cheesy names and the symbolism is like a brick to the face, but for story purposes I keep it as it is.

I kept it as Dagger for story purposes and because, in a way, it spoke of the growing connection between Zidane and Dagger. I find it difficult to think of her as Garnet, actually. :lew:

I've never associated Dagger with tomboyishness. :hmmm: I saw it as a movement away from her life with Brahne, a slightly rebellious name after an object that can be seen during turmoil but can also save people. Something sharp and strong (the metal), small and easily concealed.

I call her Dagger. Garnet is a princess like name that makes me think if something fragile and delicate, and she is after all princess and I usually don't associate princesses with front line fighting. Not to mention that she doesn't particularly act like a princess. Now when I think dagger, I think of a mix of ornate beauty and a deadly weapon that is used to protect. Also, I think its because she changes her name early in the story, and it sticks for the rest of the game.

Garnet... because Dagger for a human girl's name is a bit odd... it's like calling your child knife or sword

Dagger does make sense towards the story, but imo Garnet sounds much prettier and feminine, and it's a beautiful gem. ^_^

Sarah is a nice name too, and it also means princess in Hebrew so it's fitting towards her, though the game doesn't make a huge impact out of it, finding out her true name is just a secret optional quest, so it's not that important ??

To be honest, all of her names match her future, past and character... but Garnet sounds just too pretty to pass up. ^_^

I left it as: dagger thinking there was an important and plot intensive reason for giving a main character a horrible name. :hmph: Unfortunately, there wasn't.

I always go for Dagger (although one time I went for Dagger% by accident...turned out funnier than I thought).
While I prefer the name Garnet, it just wouldn't make sense in terms of the plot. It doesn't matter so much later on when she is Queen again, so maybe using the Namingway card would be a good idea to change her back to Garnet.
Anyways, definitely Dagger when you can first name her :)

I don't get how you guys can stomach that name at all. >.< Like, I've never left her name as Dagger even once. That's including my first playthrough of the game too!

I personally like to stick to defaults, along with the reason I said above. Dagger just makes the most sense with the scene where you name her and with the whole "undercover" name that she needs so that she never gets caught :)

I've only played the game once but I went with Dagger. I never rename my characters regardless of how bad I think their names are. But on that note I didn't actually mind the name Dagger.

However, after finishing the game, when I talk about her character I always refer to her as Princess Garnet/Garnet.

I was ten when I played the game for the first time and I'd just finished playing VII so for some bizarre reason I called Garnet Tifa :| When I replay it now though I usually opt for Garnet.

I always go with whatever name the game wants me to use so if the game tells me to use dagger then I use it. I actually don't think it's THAT bad hahaha, obv garnet is better but the whole point of that part of the game is for her to get an identity change so I don't put it back to Garnet.

I always leave it as Dagger. Mostly because that's what it's meant to be in the story. Also, people keep saying Garnet is such a nice, pretty name, but I don't like it at all. At least Dagger is quirky.

Xx..xX

Oh wow, I never expected so many to change it to Garnet like I did. ^-^ I guess I wasn't the only one who didn't like her nickname at all.

Dagger is such a shit name haha. I can only asume it sounds better prounounced in whatever it'd be in japanese. Theres nothing appealing about the word dagger, even as a nickname, even for a guy

I always used to change it back to Garnet, but for story purposes, my most recent playthroughs I have begrudgingly stuck to dagger

Besides at the end, its much more effective when Zidane turns up and says 'bring my dagger to me!''

I should really google other names for knives and daggers so at least her changing her name would fit more in to the plot if I do decide to rename her again :wacky:

Never seen the point of naming her sarah either, we're not supposed to know shes called that til way late in the game, and even then after youve done the most ridiculous of requirements walking in circles around the eidolon wall, so i think the only reason anyone WOULD name her sarah is just to be a smart arse. woo look at me, I know her *reeeeaaaal* name.

Get a grip

It doesn't matter so much later on when she is Queen again, so maybe using the Namingway card would be a good idea to change her back to Garnet.

Ive never thought of doing that... that would make sense.. I wonder if the ending scene would know youve used the namingway and still play out where he calls her Dagger....
