I wasnt Satisfied with my characters so now im redoing them im level 50 and am about to go to giruvegen. What are good weapons to do? should i have a ranged person or not? Should I have a healer? Ty in advance for the help.:)

Not up to level 50 by a long shot yet, but I have been playing without a ranged character for a while now and it seems to be a little better. But I guess it is going to help more to have all the players on the same level with one player as ranged. Even if that person is just a reserve character. Provided you don't sell the ranged weapons either way should be ok.

I never understood the purpose of the ranged weapons, they're weak and there are no birds in girevegan. In addition if you use a main healer the hate system(like in XI) is in effect and the meanies will focus on your healer. I recommend obviously your most powerful weapons, I personally prefer greatswords and spears or katanas. Marasume(sp) from giglamesh hunt, zodiac spear if you skipped the chests, and you should be able to even put together the tournesol by now. BTW, you never said what your options were, what weapons you have to choose from.

What I did was I had all of my main characters using melee weapons(Vaan used single handed sword and shield, Basch had an Axe and shield, and Ashe had a greatsword). But I had Ashe be a healer, and I almost never experienced this so-called "hate system". Having Ashe as a healer has saved me more than once, this also makes her an expert spellcaster too because of her naturally high MP. My leader(Vaan) was a "jack-of-all-trades" because I had him do whatever was needed if I didn't need him attacking. He healed if Ashe was busy, cast devastating magic, and attacked and everything else too.

And, for ranged weapons, there is some DEFINITE use for them, I just never did. There are some extremely powerful flying creatures in the game, even bosses. Just, make sure that, if you don't use ranged weapons either have some awesome magic, or have telekinesis(the technik that allows melee weapons to attack from a range) as soon as possible.

I've never "really" had this hate thing done to me, but my characters have pretty much all been rounded. The hate thing is from some guy in balfonheim (not positive on location, think near aerodome) but he is a NPC that you just run into. When you talk to him he tells you that creatures hate healing more than anything else, also one of the extra infos in the bestiality said the same thing I believe.

Masamune+Genji-Glove can actually achieve more damage than even the Zodiac Spear, or Masamune+Cathood, it really doesn't matter, both of them make the Masamune extremely powerful, giving it the potential to do more damage than any weapon in the entire game.

Once you earn those, use them, that is an extremely powerful combination, I either use that on Vaan, but mostly Ashe(Since I hate how Vaan looks like, Fran and Ashe ftw!).

I've always had one character using a ranged weapon. You need one in my opinion, as you do encounter several foes of the flying type, and then they really come in handy. Sure they're not going to be as powerful as the other classes, but useful none the less.

Always have a healer/magick person too, I've always been one to use that moreso than items.

What I used to do is have some ranged weapons in reserve so if i ran into a enemy that was flying i would just change all my weps to bows.

I did the same thing, keeping them in reserve for flyers, but never in my main party. I picked up both the zodiac spear and the tournesol kinda early on, when I was lvled in the 40's so they were my main weapons. Unfortunately the ONLY thing I ended up w/o was the genji armor, I attacked giglamesh underlvled and he just about stomped me, barely made it through with no chance to steal. It wasn't till later in the game when trying to get extras that I started using some faqs. Next time I'm playing with a 2 character system and only one reserve character, so I'll probably redefine my strategy, or lack of(all kinda superheroes w/everything for each char. this time) I'm definitely going for genji next time!!

I have a main party of Vaan (uses axes and sometimes swords/katanas), Basch (more powerful axes), and Ashe (poles). My "reserve" characters are Balthier (pretty much like Vaan) and Fran (bows). I don't even care about Penelo. : )

I always have two guys and one chick in my party. All my characters attack physically and magically and heal when necessary, but generally I have Ashe or Fran do the healing. As for flying enemies, I just spam the -aga spells.

.

Just FYI, Penelo ends up with the 2nd strongest magick in the game, at lvl 84, same as ashe, with 840 MP's, barely under ashe(873). Plus I think her strength is higher than frans also.
