Grand Dragons!

Hmm... when I once crazy-leveled, I beat them at first cd :D
But my party lvl was around 35 too ;) Still it wasn't easy, it was hard as hell... died three times before I finally managed to kill one... because of the bad gear I had at that moment (1-st cd afterall)....

Yeah, if you let Freya win the festival you get the coral ring which absorbs thunder, you can also get it at the synthesist shop, rod and lightning staff, i believe. Probly two thousand or so. I believe the earliest you can get it is Treno though, make sure you get Rods before you cross the ice cavern because you cant go back to get them for some time. Equip everyone with coral ring, keep Garnett healing, level up a little before you go to them so your slightly warmed up for the GDIs.

Yeah in case anyone wants to know why I'm so sure about all that, I just recently realized that I erased my file of IX and the one I thought was mine was my friends file on my card soo, here I go through FF IX again and you'll probably be seeing alot more info from me popping u in these forums.

I'm not about about losing the seventy or so levels, I'm heated about all those tetra master cards I had... If you want to see some truly great cards, dig up my Tetra Master thread. =[

It's actually not that hard to kill the Grand Dragons on CD1.
Have Quina learn Limit Glove, kill Him/Her/It whatever in a battle, then flee.
Save your game. Revive until Quina comes back with EXACTLY 1HP.
It's all about speed then, Limit Glove will cause 9999 damage if Quina has 1HP.
Grand Dragons have about 13000 HP.
It's just trial and error really.:monster:
EDIT: Let Freya win the festival of the hunt and you'll get the Coral Ring, equip it on your most damaging character, NOT Quina.
This has saved me a few times.

Yeah its a great way to train i always start of with the garudas then i take on the dragon they are extremely tough in disc one very hard but not imposible. Ifim doing the excalibur 2 quest well you know i dont have the time for grand dragons.

Thats a waste. They were great trainers while they lasted... Considering with Quina's Blue Magic they could easily be put to waste, if you're up for some training before breezing through for Excalibur II, this might be a good option.

Lol, enough with the coral rings and lightning retardant armors. You really want to make FFIX just absolutely stupid, take Quina over to the beach by Esto Gaza, eat you a Zombie Whale, learn Lv 4 Death, go back to the grotto, coral ring Quina to ensure safety, hit him with Lv 4 Death, rinse and repeat, you can easily get all six or seven of your party members up to level 50 3 by 3 in like an hour. You can just walk around cock-slapping the rest of your opponents for the game. Necron will bow before your tremendous Grand Dragon stopping power.

I don't really use them to train. I tried to take one out but it killed my guys really easily. I don't really use a certain enemy to train my guys. I just go through the place and when I finish, I finish.

Same here, though I did fight the Grand Dragons alot for some quick level-ups, they still give decent amount of exp and they aren't hard even at level 40-ish which was when I started. Their thundaga spell can hurt but I just used to Ark summon and attacked him with Vivi's flare. I'm currently at level 83 in my saved game now and about to go into the 4th disc...

I found myself fighting a fair few of these guys, they're great for levelling up and learning abilities. I can't remember my exact strategy, but I always made sure Freya could get the final blow so I could boost up her Dragon Crest ability.

They are one of the best things to level on until you get to the end game in Memoria. I leveled up on the Mistodon's before I went there as well. If you're going for Excalibur II though, it isn't wise to level grind in any sort of a way because it takes too much time, but you can afterwards.

I love using them to train, it levels your characters up so fast. The only thing that annoyes me is that the most efficient way to do it is to use Lv.5 death..which only Quina knows and I would seriously prefer to just..not have to deal with him/her/it/whatever. So it bugs me that my second strongest character is Quina now but it's still the best training strategy ever, if a little repetative.

I always use the Grand Dragons infront of Daguerreo to train my main party. Although when I start training with them,it is usually around Disc 4. Plus while training there, you can easily get Freya's Dragon Crest to do 9999 damage.

Although I've never trained on the ones above the Grotto. I don't go up there early in the game, and later on I just prefer the ones infront of Daguerreo.
