I halfway expect that Hera knew I'd be the one making this sooner or later.
--------------------------

This is a gather spot, for those of us that prefer to use a vast energy pool, or deliver world ending spells.
Though, by this, I mean powerful spells, yes. But lets keep the Armageddon on the sideline here.

So. For the rest of the players that like to dish out lumps of energy (Read: Spells) Feel free to converse here.

*bump*

Oh come on, people, there's GOTTA be more magic-lovers out there!

Wolf walked into the guild entrance, dressed in a black overcoat with a hood covering the upper part of his face. He shut the door behind him from a thunderstorm that was in full force outside. He looked up and pulled back his hood to reveal bright blue eyes and mid long black hair. He raised a gloved hand and shot a spiral of thunder bolts into the ground just away from Red Fox

"I am Angel, leader and elementalist of another guld of mages, down south. I'm here to introduce myself"

OOC: Is this even an RP, or just a discussion thread?

Not at all, this is a discussion guild. For members who prefer magic over melee.

This is a place to discuss tactics, spells, incantations, methodology, and magical theories.

The concept is that like minds will breed stronger RPers.

I for one have very little interest in Magic so I haven't added my input in this matter. If you like magic in role playing then this is the place for you.

Edit : However, I really like that you took the initiative to post IC! It was a fun read and I hope that you participate in other RPs on this site, should you need assistance contact either Contra Fates or Danny the Cat!

Ok well i have a huge interest in magic. My prefer spells being elemental sorts. especially thunder and water

You're fav type of magic?

Excellent question, possibly an opening question to all interested members!

What is your favorite Element?

I prefer the earth elemental actually, mostly because my preferred character archetype is very headstrong and heavy handed. I think of the earth Elementalists as very physical beings.

Why do you like Thunder and Water? Is this due to their inherent contradiction?

How did you know i liked thunder and water xD

And yes they combine well, plus they can be peacefuland calm, but also powerful and wrathful at the same time

Thunder and Water ftw!

I would like to dust off my RP skills and join up. I am more into Mage - type characters. I never had an interest in playing a melee type char, but I may lean toward hybrid that's also mostly magic.

My favorite element is Water for the sole purpose on the fact that it can exist as a gas (steam), liquid, or solid (ice). I like to play with fire too, but it requires air and 'earth' (wood) to exist (fuel and oxygen) so there is a use for all of them.

Although I would prefer to be discreet about it and use that as a 'Trump' card.

Though a VERY slow reply, I like the element of "energy"
Where as many would start discussing if it is an element in itself, and I ask you. How cna anything work without energy to fuel it?

Thing is, every mage/wizard/etc has a unique life force, so ones spells would naturally get an energy fingerprint as they are released. But Ill get back to this at a later date.

Energy, it is pure, and not tainted by the elements. It is what I consider the closest to 'man made' by the caster himself, as it is completely based on his own energy, instead of converting or mimicking an element that already exists.

This off course is different if one uses ones own energy to manipulate other elements, thus one is actually using ones own energy to do so, but still.

True, I didn't consider that - it was only the same energy that allows people to get up, eat breakfast, mess on the computer, school, work, go to bed, etc... that requires energy that we take for granted that it barely comes to mind.

Could it be that way too? We can be taught or trained to do things, we have natural talents that make us stand out from others (I can't sing but I can draw), or people have odd talents that only a rare few can do or even rare physical traits too.

Its so common that I didn't give that factor any thought.

Consider it for a second.
What gives a mage the ability to create, or rather, unleash certain spells?
Why is it that only some can do some spells, where others can only do different spells.
Why are the mages fatigued by doing this, and were does the energy gone from?

My answer on this, which is based on logic but has to be bent slightly as we don't have magic in the real world, at least not as in RP's, follows.

The energy must come from one’s body, why else are the casters body feeling the strain?
If the energy came from the earth, then the human are only a conduit, and feeling strain then would be like the pipes in your sink being ruined, more so then you draining water from a lake.
Or instead of the batteries in a device losing power, the cords themselves are broken down.

So, the logical viewpoint of this, is that it is the mages themselves that are able to draw upon their own life energy, and manipulate it into certain elements.
This also gives reason to why pyromancers often only uses fire, or many mages only have 1 or 2 elements, as their life force only has the option to change ever so much.
Considering one that is aligned with fire, it will be easier for said person to channel his energy into a fire spell, then a water spell, which is his opposite in this case.
So, energy is an ‘element’ every mage should be able to use, the strength will off course depend on the caster, as every device is dependent on the power supply.
The smaller the battery, the less power, the larger he battery, the more power, in this example the battery is the mana/energy pool.

If you look on it with this logic, then every spell caster should at least have 2 elements; energy and an elemental one.

Also, if you look deeper into this, there are 2 more factors that are interesting to consider.
As everyone has life energy, regardless of the size, it is there. This means that everyone should be able to at least channel it into one spell, perhaps as simple as a light spell, where one makes a magical source of light.
The other very interesting thing to consider is this.
As every life force is unique to the caster, say I was to send off any form of spell towards an enemy.
This enemy manages to reflect this spell in some way, the action of re-directing any source of energy, will either feed on the energy it is directing, or it needs an external source.
As this act of reflecting often is a spell, or similar effect, used by the opposing mage, it is safe to assume that he uses his own energy.
This will off course taint the spell you cast in the first place ever so slightly.
NOW, as said spell is en route to your body, it is still your energy. Will a pool of water be damaged if you send back the portion of water you just took away?
Will a battery (rechargeable in this case, as any mage recharges mana) be damaged if you use the very same energy to recharge it?

Fuck no!

This will then mean, a reflected spell should either be absorbed back to the caster, or in the case of reflecting it is tainted ever so slightly, so it has changed. In the latter case the power should at least be lowered by 50%, so that you will take MUCH less damage then he would if he had not reflected it.

If this makes sense, consider a battle between 2 high level mages/wizards! ^^

This is the logic I base my character Alumar Loren upon.
With experience comes different abilities, where as he will still take damage from his own spells of reflected, even if they are not tainted.
After all, the pool of water will overflow if too much is given back at once, and this will damage the container, AKA the mage.
So, yes, he will take damage, but at severe reduced strengths.

So, debate on this logic please. Whereas I’m fairly certain that you might have some opposing ideas, know that this is based so much on logic as I can do as this is not real.

EDIT:
OOC: Is this even an RP, or just a discussion thread?

Where as it is a discussion thread for now, I can later set up a RP based on the members here.
Where we can interact, and test out things. Perhaps even learn something from one another.
But for now, no IC is needed ^^

I'm very logical and scientific and unfortunately I can explain each and every paragraph with a supposed RL explanation. But that doesn't mean I don't believe.

I go by this saying: A believer doesn't need evidence, and for a skeptic - no evidence is ever good enough.

Energy to create and change ranges from what one can do with their hands to what one can do with their mind -- eventually it will cause fatigue in either case. That's life.

Energy is all around you, yes. But you'd be surprised where you can find it: A martial artist, a painter, a singer... there are expressions that describes an action or performance as 'magical'

Perhaps it's the true emotion behind it that gives it the magic touch. That is the intangible, the type that drives the hearts and imagination of people for ages. Both in real life and in fiction.

I'll stick to fiction:

... Um actually, what are you referring to? I've been in situations where that thin line got obscured. Personally, I'd like to have fun and RP but a nice discussion is a great thing too.

Quick background on me: I'm pagan, I like to read tarot, draw and write for fun, and I'm a computer programmer by trade. (So you can see how I can get confused and stuff - too much time on Gaia when it was a good place)

HAhaha
Well, my explanation there is mainly how a mage should be supposed to reabsorb, or be damaged significantly less, fro ma spell that he made as it is reflected back at him. ^^

I have been thinking about it for a while, where it does make sense that he too is damaged from his own spell.
By the things I have stated, he should be damaged, yes, but at a much lower level.

Oh, like every action causes a reaction (I'm not going to say 'equal' or 'opposite' reaction since there are ways to be more efficient than others)

Hmm... RP characters should have checks and balances - aligned elements would have less of an effect, no effect, or an opposite effect.

So in that point, I agree =^_^=

Ooohh! I also have this idea for a Mage character to RP (basically she starts as waking up in a strange world and wants to go home -- that frees up what I want of origin and it frees up the GM's idea of a setting)

Im looking forward to seeing your char ^^
Feel free to link him/her up here for critiques and comments, not to mention ideas by your fellow mages ^^

This off course is the same for all "members" of this here guild ^^

^ :holyshit: Lawlz. Nice bio, tho this is not a Rp yet. When time comes i'm sure you will be admited, if they want that is :P .

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Element? : Wind.

Why? : Cuz it requires nothing more than NOTHING. Is a non-material/element to work properly. When added more spinning force it can create large forces of typhons. When added to a small puddle of water, it can create large ammounts of water typhons, water spikes and/or stakes (Using the wind itself to levitate the water particle and surround them, making it becoming like stakes). When added fire (as water) can create typhons of fire and/or fire beams (see water).

How much would it require to train yourself to be able to produce such intensity of wind power? : Probably 5 to 10 years if known the wind attributes and such.

Would it be able to create wind stakes, spike, kunais, floating swords, floating rocks? Like levitate objects? : Yes it would. After all, levitation is a form of wind usage.

But when levitation, you don't see any type of wind breeze coming out of it. Why is wind used in here? : Even if you don't sense the wind breeze you can imagine the wind circling the object, levitating it to a normal height and moving it.

Are you that fascinated with the wind element? Why is that? : I was, am and will ever be a Wind lover. It all began when seeing those old elemental djinns in games, animes and/or mangas. The recreation of wind inspire me to a unlimited force of imagination and ideas. As i said before, Wind does not need any type of material/element to exist and co-exist with others. Being the one, of the two, who can exist without any type of "help" excites me the most. In water, wind appears as the flow of the water current. If the water is moving, is due to the winf moving. Water can also be produce from thin air, as cold wind is also formed by water particles.

God, you know a lot of Wind. Why is that? : Since i loved wind the most for more than 8-9 years of living, i absorved wind teaching to the most deep meaning and abillities. So, yeah i know a lot of it

@Psychomaze: I like your char idea, try and fill it into a character sheet, as the most you have there is history and back story.
Even so, it was an interesting read.

@Neko: Thing is,wind is not an element, Air is ^^
Though, wind is air in movement, so your element should therefore be Air.
Even so, Id like to see your make a char based on this information, jsut rememebr energy drains ^^

Well, this would work out well for a game, but for a text based RP, we don't use states due to logical reasons.

Well, the occasional RP use states, but if so this will be run by a GM instead of a free flowing RP as most of the ones here.
