I had been playing the first game and after awhile I had been looking at the sequels, I wonder if KH still had its magic from the first game. When I played the game, it wasn't too complcated as it was basically about saving the universe wheile trying to find Sora's friends but then the whole Org. XIII came up, Nobody and Keyblade War came up.I know this a Disney game and Disney is notorious for milking its franchises but still has KH lost the orignal flavor that made it so awesome?

*sighs*

No, I don't think it's lost magic. Yes, I still love it as much as I did when I first played KH1. No, I'm not a pedo. Nomura is S-E's salvation, Yoko's music makes me wet, yadda, yadda, yadda...

I think it's lost some of its touch. What you said right up there was pretty much what was going on through my head today when I booted up KH 358/2 Days for the first time. I was thinking about how there were a few stories, Sora was looking for his friends, they had to keep their world border thing a secret, they were still new at everything, and there were a few different stories, they unfolded as the game went on. You didn't know the final boss until you got to the second to last world. Then Ansem revealed himself and a bit more of the plot unfolded. In KH II, once you get to the second world, you find out who the main baddies are and you go out to destroy them. That's how the whole thing was. For CoM, there wasn't a lot of magic, just awkward battles and a different experience. So far, 358/2 days seems like a KH2 tuned down to DS style graphics, and doesn't seem too appealing. Hopefully BBS is good, and KH 3D better bring back that touch and possibly add some new worlds/change their layouts.

Of course it has lost it's touch. The plot is convoluted as all hell, which is probably the main offense. Have you read the plot to Coded? It makes absolutely no sense. Not to mention we probably won't see Kingdom Hearts three for another five years or so. We'll be stuck playing several more handheld titles that were half-assed.

That brings up another point that really pisses me off: They keep making them for new consoles. I ended up telling my parents to get my brother a DS for his birthday just so we could play 358/2 Days. We each have a PSP, so that's fine. But now S-E is making KH 3D for the 3DS? Do they think money grows on trees? I don't have any money to go buy another gaming console, and it's rather annoying having to have so many games of one series for so many different consoles. I mean, FF is fine being on many different consoles, because they've almost been around for 25 years. KH hasn't yet hit the 10 years mark, so they don't have a good reason for having games released on so many different consoles. Sure it widens their fan base, but don't you think some Sony fans are gonna be turned away if every other game comes out for the DS/3DS/Wii?

KH 1 and 2 have not lost their touch, I am currently playing the games through and find I still love the console games, although the spinoffs is making me grow tiresome....they're so pointless (mostly) and I think they are kind of ruining the feel of KH for me.

Of course they aren't going to be turned away. They understand that they've drawn in so many fans with Kingdom Hearts that they can put them out on anything and people will still buy it. Since Wada took the throne, he has been getting his hands on everything to milk it far more than its worth. Square Enix stopped caring about the fans a long time ago. Now, it's all about money. Frankly, I thought the 90% profit loss was going to change things and then I heard rumors about XIII-2 >.>

I don't get how Japanese companies like Sony and S-E think when your doing bad, you need to do worse. I mean, seriously, both companies have been doing things to piss off their customers and they continue to dig a deeper grave with each move. XIII did horribly. Now they are making a sequel. Why don't they make FF XIV, and move on, instead of focusing on another game?

Back on topic, S-E does need to stop producing so many side-stories and give us what they've all been leading up to: KH III

I wouldn't mind Kingdom Hearts III, however that isn't going to appear any time soon. I'd like to try Birth By Sleep but I'll first need a PSP. I've tried out every available KH game so far and I only enjoyed KH and KH II. The console titles really deliver, sans Re:CoM which I hated. What I'd really like for KH III is an online multiplayer section for Gummi ships, considering I'm in the 10% that actually enjoyed customizing the things.

As far as Squenix goes as a whole, I really want a VII remake AND a new addition to the Chrono series. That may come given that Versus is successful.

Yeah and no. KH and KH2 are still magical. But felt like Coded and 385/2 whatever days, were just really lacking the KH magic. I think it's because SE are making games that are unnecessary. Do we really need Coded ? Do we really need KH 3D ? No, not really because they are just the original KH but with different plotwists and a few changes. They should of just brought out KH3 after KH2 and kept things simple, instead of making a already complexed storyline even more hard to understand.
SE just wants money.
:jtc:Oh Birth by Sleep is a great game and still has the magic, but don't know if we really needed it. :hmmm:

I went in looking for a fun experience, and I got it in KH1. When they announced the sequel, I was excited. Then, I saw the worlds that were available (rehash of KH1, much?), and heard constant complaints about the opening (2 hour tutorial mode, sounds like tons of fun). With the plethora of available Disney settings (Darkwing Duck, Tailspin, Gargoyles), they just brought us what we already had. Cap that off with torturous mini-games that you have to do, and I lost interest before I ever started.

The plot of KH1 was clean, straightforward, but still kept me interested in getting through and wanting a sequel. Once they layered on the painful convolutions that require owning a GBA (though if I recall, that title eventually hit PS2 anyways), PSP, and DS, they went too far (I own all three, but anyone making it that hard to access and understand their single storyline is just an ass).

I mean, FF is fine being on many different consoles, because they've almost been around for 25 years.

This is a solid point, and it's worth noting that the FF series is a series of (mostly) unconnected games. The only direct sequels so far (FFX-2 and FFTA2) are either on the same system or on the next generation system by the same company. Even the FF7 clustercuss sticks to Sony consoles. Kingdom Hearts is a single story (and not even a complete story yet, unlike any individual FF game which wraps up in and of itself) and is already on 4 different systems. That's just mean.

Anyways, to answer the original question: KH lost its magic as soon as 1 was over. It's sad, because it was so promising, but this is a fantastic example of "you had me, and then you lost me."

The thing about KH is that it doesn't stick to one character, or one story throughout the whole series. KH1 I loved because it was a simple story. The other games reveal the rest of well...the KH universe. The thing that confuses people is that they try to link absolutely everything to the main story, which doesn't work.

Coded doesn't contribute at all to anything, I've got it and i just find it a really fun game, without having to worry about a story behind it.

Days I find explained Org XIII purpose and how they try to achieve it, but Xion was quite confusing...because they tried to link her to Sora...which they kinda did...i guess :hmmm: Days also showed that Org XIII is just a group of nobodies who want hearts. In KH2 we think they're bad, but no, their leader is just Xehanort's nobody (right?)

I want KH3 to come out, with the same magic as KH1 and KH2 had. Hopefully they can just carry on with the main story of Sora finding his friends and getting back to the island.

But to answer your question...no. I definitely don't think so. What KH does is reveal an entirely different world. So not everything is linked, it just gives you an idea of the different things in the KH universe

...I hope that made sense

that made perfect sense to me honestly i stopped connecting all the spin offs as soon as the first one came out they are just background story made for the die hard fans who just want more KH in their systems

BBS does matter as that is one of the only spin-offs that links to the main storyline properly while still giving background to the story hence the name prequel and not sequel

coded is there cause it is a lot of fun and if you like movies like inception or shutter island then you should try figuring out the story in coded cause that is a real mindfuck (sorry for the swearing but what other word is their for that specific thing) although it makes some sense to me

KH 3D confused me for a sec as i am not getting a 3DS and so i don't lnow any games on it why i am not gettingit because it sucks honestly sit still in one place to have a meagre amount of 3D effect yeah no

KH 3 is coming out this year KH 3D is the last spin off coded was the second last so stop saying it will take 5 years unless u have proper proof i have proof as in an interview nomura stated that they will make 2 spin-offs in 2011 and then they wi ll release KH3 later that year so don't complain

i do hope that there is a multiplayer with the gummi ships because like my collegue i also love customising the gummi ships in fact i filled the every slot that was made for the customised ships in KH 2

back to the topic i do not believe it lost its magic as i don't relly count many of the spin-offs as part of they mainstream games grouping as they contribute almost nothing to the story line they are just fun and may have been tests for the style of fighting and leveling in KH3 i have no proof just a thoery

Kingdom Hearts hasn't lost its touch, I just think people are fed up that the series has been dancing around with its many spin-offs for too long. People want the series to go to KH3 already, but Enix seems to want to add more and more to the back-story to give people more to think and theorize about. I think it's good, as I love when they add more twists and elements, but only when done in consideration. The series has begun to do this too much, and they need to stop playing around with the story, and just take the straight road into what the fans want.

I guess they split the series into multiple consoles to let everyone in on the magic. Could they have spread the love too much by making so many games on so many different consoles? I'm not really sure. But right now I believe the Kingdom Hearts department of S-E is taking their coffee break from KH and working on Versus XIII (it's like Kingdom Hearts but for big kids :D). So with Versus coming in like 2012(?) Kingdom Hearts 3 could be out as soon as, ummm.....

KH 1 and KH2 are amazing truthfully. I like the idea of the Organization and all the personalities that were brought forth from it. I do like the complexity of the story as well. It is very character driven and is more of a look into what people feel.

That being said. Coded (which I have but havent played yet) looks sorta lame. 365/2 days was pretty pointless IMO.

Birth by Sleep though was a good addition. I like how it ties things together and fleshes parts of the first two games out (which is what the other spin offs failed to do.)

hey i just finished coded in the end it kind of does tie into the story but due to the fact that i don't want to ruin the game for anyone here (though i doubt many of you actually have it) i will only say that it was still kind of pointless it really only explains more about what KH3 is about however in the end it shows who he has the power to save they are listed below

axel this confused me for a second as he is standing next to roxas although they are a little faded but you can tell who it is but anyway if you have seen the secret ending of coded you will know that if you defeat someones heartless and their nobody they come back together to make the original person

i think i missed a person but the others are terra aqua and ven though ven is going to be the most interesting to save since his heart is a part of sora's heart

That brings up another point that really pisses me off: They keep making them for new consoles.

This is what i've recently noticed as well, only its not just the KH series, SE are doing it with the FF as well. It's annoying but it's also sheer genius from a business point of view, they know that hardcore fans will buy the consoles just to find out what happens next, while they're making huge amounts of $$$.

Another thing I don't like is the frustrating intertwining storylines with Sora's gang, Roxas' gang and Organisation XIII. There's so much going on that I don't even think SE can keep up with their own storylines.

Hopefully KH3 will fill in the gaps but that won't be coming out any time soon..

Well I think SE is being smart by milking it for all they can...Unlike waiting so long to do it with FFVII they are doing it in quick succesion with the KH series,Kudo's SE for doing it in quick accord~

The main games in the KH series havent lost appeal to me,though I will admit I wiki'd them because the story is so convoluted I realy had a hard time in the begining grasping it theres so much floating arround story wise honestly and nothing is EVER clearly explained theres all this stuff and all you want is to know how it all relates.
Though the in between games, remixed stories, different veiws ect
,to milk the series kudo's again SE
I dont think are realy all that great they are mostly ok to play and keep you preoccupied
and spending more money on the franchise
till the next main game in the series hits.

BBS imo wasnt a smash hit for me in the serise but it was ok and by far was the game I easily understood story wise the most. Im not sure why I wasnt that gaga over it. I think it was the repetition of EVERYTHING twice over gameplay wise...Perhaps if they had have made a different battle system for each of the charecters i would have found it less trying by the time I hit Aqua.~Though I did enjoy it story wise and appealing by being able to play 3 stories I even rather liked the mini games.

Mostly I still think it has a high apeal factor for me even if im not a rabid fan of the lesser games.

Well I wouldn't say its lost its touch, with each new game is a new style added to it in terms of gameplay. Most times its not by much as seen in the DS games but they still manage to do a good job. As for multiple consoles, its only really three and even then if money is an issue thanks to the internet you can get it for free if you know your way around it. What I like is how KH2 seemingly let you in on the events of Chain of Memories so that way you weren't completely lost as to what happened in between the second and first. I'm pretty sure the next one will do the same so no one has to worry about being lost in the storyline because they didn't play any of the side games.

Yeah it sucks that they keep dishing out these instead of putting out KH3 but oh well no use crying over spilled milk. If its because they wanna get the most out of it why stop them? At least they're leaving no stones unturned as far as the plot goes. At least I have more uses for my PS2, DS, and PSP besides collecting dust on some cabinet.
