I've only just started playing this game but I already think it's awesome and a true credit to the series, now, I don't know if this is in the original version because I've only played the GBA version but in Elfheim there are 3 tombstones near the Inn and one of them has 'Here Lies Link' written on it, is this a taunt aimed at the Legend of Zelda games? or is this a sort of tribute? I don't think it's a coincidence that the inhabitants of Elfheim look like Link either...Your thoughts?

On my last play through on the GBA I found that and was pretty amused by it.

I think they were just playing homage to the Zelda series. When FF first came out the company was going bankrupt and that was going to be their last game, or the story goes something like that. I don't think they were taunting the Zelda series.

Yeah I've only played the GBA version myself so I dunno. But when I saw that I thought it was so cute xD It made me a giggle a little ^^

Yeah, that could be quite the tribute, or a great taunt. XD I thought the third gravestone was gonna say the same thing as the others, and it made me laugh abit. XD

I think their teasing such competition from Zelda. :P

When I was looking for extras online most people said "This is a tribute to Link." I agree with them because at the time this game (GBA) they had just came out with the cartoon Link. I guess they were taunting them now.

It is a reference to Link and it was in the original. When Square merged with Enix, they changed the line in the Japanese version of the GBA version (i think) to a character from Dragon Quest... lemme double check FF Compendium. I remember reading this about a week or two ago.

EDIT: Erm... I was... kinda sorta close... kinda...

"As far as I can tell, only one game has ever had the honor of being ridiculed by a Final Fantasy game. In the first FF, a gravestone reads "Here lies Erdrick". The main competition (in fact, it came out before FF and some say it was even the inspiration for FF) for Final Fantasy I was Dragon Quest (Dragon Warrior in North America). The warrior (not the one you play, one that died a long time ago) featured in this game was Erdrick (Loto in Japan). In the original Japanese, this gravestone read "May Link rest in peace" - referring to the Legend of Zelda series. Erdrick was replaced with Link in the PSX version of the game. However, Phredreeke mentions that the European PSX version still has Erdrick! Big Nutter says that the European version of FF1: Dawn of Souls brings back Link!"

im fiarly sure that it was just a tribute to Zelda - especially since when this game was first made it was released on a nintendo console...i think.
