I found this forum by chance today. Much to my surprise, it had several interesting threads containing intelligent conversation with complete sentences and proper syntax--something of a rarity these days. I have long believed the intelligent conversation to be dead on Final Fantasy sites; you've happily proven me wrong.

A little about myself: I have been a fan of Final Fantasy since playing FFVI (or FFIII as it was called) on the SNES. Although I consider FFX to be my "favorite" (it's the one I've played the most times all the way through), I love most of the games in the series despite some of their shortcomings. My affinity for these games was not shared by my friends in the old days. Many of the kids in my schools never played the games and expressed no interest in them. They either enjoyed platformers or FPS games, and lost interest whenever I attempted to discuss the complexity of the FF plots. My college days saw little change other than a friend that watched his little cousin play through FFXII.

Indeed, outside of online communities, it's been rather difficult to find FF fans. Recently, I've taken to crafting fans out of my friends by sitting them down to watch me play. It was the only way to get them to understand the greatness of the franchise and dispel the myth that almost everyone seems to have: that the games are sequential continuations of one-another. I found that many people are turned off to the series because they fear picking up FFXIII without having played FFs I-XII, believing that they would be at a terrible disadvantage plot-wise. Now that my friends understand the independent structure of the characters, stories, and gameplay, they're more open to the franchise and have even purchased some of the earlier games.

Unfortunately, they are still greenhorns, so it isn't particularly stimulating to discuss with them Lightning's radical shift in behavior between XIII and XIII-2, or marvel at the irony in FFVIII where Seifer looks to Laguna as a role model whereas Squall sees him as a moron. Hence what brought me here, lol.

Aside from the FF aspect of my life, I'm also a fan of various animes, mangas, movies and books. Whenever I'm not playing Mass Effect 3 with my friends, I enjoy building Gundam models and lending my voice to fandubbing projects. I'm also a political scientist, so I spend the rest of my time writing and giving speeches on foreign and domestic policies.

Anyway, that's enough of an introduction for now. I'm off to go read some of the many intriguing threads on this site.

If at any moment you think it's too sensible, there's always the spam section on this site. :ohoho:

Welcome~

Welcome to FFF, Mr Revolution! Hope you enjoy your time here and all that.

A political scientist eh? Sounds interesting. What are your thoughts on gun crime and the death of Maggie Thatcher? I'm sure her death is a bit old now, but...there are threads around for these kinds of things if you're interested :sir:

Mr. Revolution, welcome to the fourm. =] I hope you enjoy your stay around here.

Once again, welcome!

Hello there, Mr. Revolution! Glad that you like it so far. =] One of these days you should give us a few sample of your fan-dubbing projects. And since you like anime, might I suggest Attack on Titan?

Looking forward to seeing you interact with the community. You sound like an interesting individual! Hope to see you around then. ;)

Btw, Seifer is one of my favorite FF characters. =P

What are your top 5 favourite books? :)

I've never received so many replies to an intro thread before, lol. I hardly know where to start my reply. First, I'd like to thank everyone for welcoming me. It may not seem like much to you guys, but it means a lot to be greeted with posts that consist of more than just 1337 and netspeak.

My political thoughts lean towards the pragmatic and I generally don't take sides with extremists on either the right or left of the political spectrum. Regarding guns: that's a complex issue that requires much exposition in order to give a proper answer. I'll type up an essay and post it in the appropriate thread.

As for the passing of Margaret Thatcher, I have more to say about her life than I do her death, lol. But the fact that her death caused such a storm of vitriol demonstrates just how much of a polarizing figure she has been during her political career.

I think your front page is very nicely organized and informative. I also see that you're hiring staff to post some editorials. Perhaps I'll apply. I love dissecting Final Fantasies and writing essays on my revelations and discoveries.

Interesting hobbies you have there.

Welcome to the forums, mate!

Interesting, but expensive, lol. The price hike in models lately is absurd, not to mention the jacked up tax on paints.

What are your top 5 favourite books? :)

My top five favorite books are mostly nonfiction, lol. At the very top would have to be Escape from Freedom by Erich Fromm in which the relationship between sadomasochists is thoroughly explored and the dichotomy of freedom and authority makes for a shocking revelation into the human psyche.

Second on my list is my complete collection of William James essays--a gift I received from the Philosophy Department at my university for my award winning paper on James and the concept of absolute truth. I treasure those books greatly. James is a great pragmatist whose philosophy is very versatile and applicable to most people.

Third is King Leopold's Ghost by Adam Hochschild. The book explores the history of the Congo and how its history of violence can be traced from the 19th century into the devastating failed state we see today. In essence, it describes in great detail how one man's greed led to horrifying bloodbath that has greatly shaped the politics of the Democratic Republic of Congo. History matters, folks.

Fourth is a bit of fiction: the Millennium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson. Lisbeth Salander's harrowing tale has brought to light the horrifying reality of violence against women. It's a common misconception that only developing countries and failed states treat women as second-class citizens, by the West is also guilty of serious abuses committed against women that are very difficult to prosecute.

Fifth is some more fiction: The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. I'm sure most people here have read it or seen the film, lol. I didn't care for the movie much, though I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Who says professors are only capable of writing dry, uninteresting essays that make your head spin?

Regarding my fandubbing projects: we're currently in the process of recording our latest dub of FFIX. I'll be sure to post the finished product here for everyone to enjoy :)

And yes, I'm a huge anime fan. I'll definitely peruse the anime threads here. Thank you for the link to Attack on Titan. It looks positively epic and I love Production I.G. I unfortunately haven't been watching too many animes as of late… I used to have The Anime Network, and when I lost that I would watch anime on Netflix. But lately, the selection on Netflix is just sad.

Thanks again to everyone for the warm welcome.

Catchy name, respect earned by the avatar, Captain America is one of my favorite Avengers.

Anyhow, welcome to FFF. You'll find a significant amount of dedicated debaters here. I can assure you that FFF is one of the most active Final Fantasy/RPG/Action/Gaming sites nowadays so you won't be bored here. There's almost always something to talk about (regardless of whether or not the Final Fantasy franchise is kinda falling behind ...mostly because of the direction it is heading) so feel free to take a look and see if you like something.

So your major is in Philosophy or you just took courses from the Philosophy Department?

Philosophy is an eye-opener if you ask me, it helps you to view the world from a complete and "out-of-the-norm" perspective.

I recall one philosophy professor saying something like this: "The world does not end, because the world itself cannot end. What ends is a world, and there are many worlds that have ended by now."

I suppose that he meant that the world, in the physical context (i.e. the planet Earth), does not ends, but the civilizations that have come and gone have faced their respective ends and each of them has called their ends the "End of the World".

Gee, my mind drifted away from the main topic... anyhow welcome to FFF. :-)

Ah, a fellow Cap fan! Pleasure to meet you. One of my favorite Cap lines is from the Marvel Civil War: "When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world—'No. You move.'"

I love Cap, but I didn't particularly care for the latest film (not The Avengers, but Captain America: The First Avenger). Call me old fashioned, but I preferred the more realistic take of the 1990 film. I know it's a bit cheesy and the Red Skull was turned into an Italian, but the execution was more believable. Movies these days are too big on CGI. There's no way you can possibly convince me that all those hi-tech airships and weapons existed back in the 1940s during the Chris Evans film.

Indeed, the level of activity I've seen is what inspired me to register here in the first place. And yes, I agree the FF franchise is in a precarious predicament at the moment. In fact, I just finished writing an essay on why I believe FFXIII is a poor representation of a Final Fantasy. I've posted that in your FFXIII section.

So your major is in Philosophy or you just took courses from the Philosophy Department?

When I was in college, I double-majored in Political Science and Global Studies with a minor in Philosophy. My main area of philosophical study during my senior year was William James. I had written a small 12-page paper on his pragmatic views regarding absolute truths and realities.

That is most profound, indeed. Replace the word "world" with that of "reality" and we can add a greater precision to the argument, for what you have is a supra world composed of infinite realities, all of which hold truth yet clash with the truths of other realities. When one reality can no longer justify and maintain its truth, it is replaced with a superior reality, hence the rise and decline of various civilizations over the history of mankind. This also holds true on a smaller scale. When two people hold opposing truths they live in separate realities. Sometimes these realities will coexist; other times, one reality will wither and give way to the influence of the other reality.

Take slavery for example. The truth was long held that slaves were inferior beings and should be coerced into back-breaking labor for their betters, but another truth arose claiming that all men and women are created equal and no one should have to be the slave of any other person. The two truths clashed, and now the superior truth--and therefore social reality--is that slavery has been abolished in most placed in the world.

Gee, my mind drifted away from the main topic... anyhow welcome to FFF. :-)

Thank you kindly.
