According to an interview with Hikaru Utada in JQ Magazine, she mentions she may be parting ways with the series. Check out the following tidbits from the interview for more information.
Are you going to be involved in the soundtrack for Kingdom Hearts III?
Utada: I don’t think so, I don’t know. Probably not.
Mr. Utada:
We said no to Disney.
Utada: Ohh…

You turned down Disney?
Mr. Utada: Yeah. Because they don’t pay.

Because they don’t pay, yeah. My parents work for Disney World, so I’m sure they’d be in agreement with you on that.

Utada: They can have a drink over that [all laugh].
Okay, so going back a little bit, the fact that Exodus was released in English also in Japan, was that a conscious decision? Was there ever any pressure either on your label over there, or from other people to say, “Well, if you do Japanese versions of these songs, they’ll be so much more accessible, many more people will get to that?”
Utada:
Uh-huh. Well, from the beginning, yeah…before doing that contract, I’d done a few songs where I had to translate, like for Kingdom Hearts, I had to make an English version of the song “Hikari,” which became “Simple and Clean,” and then also for Kingdom Hearts II, I had to make the Japanese version which was the song “Passion” and then the English version that was “Sanctuary,” and that was so hard, it’s just—and it felt strained—and as a result, I’m happy that I worked hard to do those, because those English versions are really good and “Simple and Clean,” I think, is a really good song, and people…most of the people that know me here, they know me for that—but it’s not ideal for me as a writer, to…because, actually, I changed the melodies for “Simple and Clean” and “Hikari,” because when you change the language you’re singing in, the same melodies don’t work—and as a writer, it’s just very frustrating to have, like…I wrote these melodies for Japanese words, and to have to write in English for that, it’s just not right. And then, so, for this, uh, this contract with Island Def Jam, in the beginning I separated it to this English language album, and I don’t do Japanese translations. I just, my integrity as an artist just would not take that, could not take that.

Yeah. Because they don’t pay.

LOL

arent disney supposed to be very rich???

Well that's too bad =[ I liked her songs >.< Disney are bastards >__> they demand a lot <_<

Highly doubtful that they don't pay much, there is a reason I'm planning to work for them. xDDD I think it is her just having a diva moment.

Shame really, her talent will be missed, but if she honestly feels that way, than it is her choice to make.

damn, her songs were sooo good. I wounder whos ganna take her place. Maybe disney will end up contacting her when they make KH3 and up her pay. Her song Blue would make a good KH song imo.

Nooo.... i have like all of the songs downloaded, she can't just leave. We need to file a complaint to disney, maybe if we get enough people, then they will change their minds. -ponders deeply-

They'll pay her, just not for the time and effort she puts in. She's probably getting paid to actually sing the songs and possibly write them, but chances are she isn't getting paid to translate it to English then adjust the song to fit. I'm not really surprise she's leaving, she's probably better off, though I did like her songs >.>

Hopefully she will do some songs for other games as well.... if she discontinues her Kingdom Hearts songs

That is a real shame. =/

It's all about money money money! If what you say is correct Ryan, I think that's horrible.

Disney should be paying her for any effort made towards the creation of the games. Music is a big part of games and it really made Kingdom Hearts stand out to me because she was so good.

The intros and endings were perfect because of her involvement.

Though it could be that she's a greedy little thing or her family are trying to help her push Disney into upping her pay. Creating a little stunt in order to get Disney to shut their slandering Disney in interviews and such.

Who knows.

The only thing I care about is that even if they get a new person to sing, it won't be the same. =/

I understand why Utada would want to back off if she doesn't get paid. The "English Versions" of Hikari and Passion aren't the same song at all. Yeah, the tune is the same, but if you compare translated lyrics of the Japanese songs to the lyrics of the English songs, they're very different songs O.O

However, I liked her English songs, but I loved her Japanese versions a lot more, so if she's willing to stick on and have a theme for the potential KHIII game in Japanese without an English version, I'm fine with that *shrugs*

Why do they have to make translations anyway. They never did in FFX. And it worked just fine.
Maybe because of Disney's involvement. Sucks though. The Japanese versions of the songs are way better IMO.

But man I'm going to miss her songs in the game.

Well, that blows. I love Hikki's music for the series. And Nomura likes her music too. That's gonna suck to not hear her songs in the games anymore. Why can't they just pay her...

And damn, Hikki, aren't you rich enough!?

I'm so disappointed = ( I love Utada ! Hikari and Passion are so beautiful...I hope she can come back to sing for Kh, Disney is losing something so good !!!

Part of the magic, immo, is also for the songs she sings.
