Question, is Hojo being controlled/manipulated/forced to forget the truth by Jenova cells or something?

Not that I knew of. He was just a mad scientist, plain and simple. And his evils caused a lot of problems in the compilation.

He's a mad scientist. What do you expect? :wacky:

According to resources? No. He wasn't forced.

He wasn't forced to, he was a mad scientist who just went off his rocker.

Then again, it's Hojo, nothing about him is supposed to add up...

So... Hojo isn't forgetting the truth about the past or somethin'?

Just spell it out loud and clear.
I don't have a clue what you're trying to get at, lol.

But no, as far as I know he wasn't manipulated or forced in any way in the Compilation, and I don't think he had forgotten about anything either.

Okay, this is what I was getting at; can someone explain this;

Hojo:
"What the--? You mean only a failure made it here?"

(Cloud speaks to his back.)

Cloud:
"Professor... please give me a number. Please, Professor..."

(Hojo spins to face him.)

Hojo:
"Shut up, miserable failure..."

(Cloud slumps down. We hear the sound of an electrical spark, and catch

another fleeting glimpse of Sephiroth's visage, then Cloud rises into the
air, spinning, exactly like Sephiroth had at the Forgotten Capital. He
shoots up to the tree-like structure at the ceiling. The screen goes
white.)

Rufus:
"Who... was that?" (referring to Cloud)

Hojo
:"...He's a Sephiroth-clone I created after the real Sephiroth
died five years ago."

"Jenova cells amd Mako, with my knowledge and skills, have been
combined with science and nature to bring him to life."

Can someone explain why Hojo just admitted that Cloud was a Sephiroth clone he created and that he "brought him to life"?

Because, I thought Cloud WASN'T a Sephiroth clone.

Fuck up on SE's part with newer compilation, huh? :wacky:

I thought Hojo was just lying at first, but maybe he honestly just forgot about who Cloud was and assumed he was one of the many clones he made..?

Well they say there's a fine line between genius and insanity and I think Hojo was a bit of both. He was no doubt inspired by his earlier experiments with Jenova and it's likely that he is being driven by his own obsession of Jenova rather than Jenova's influence on him.

That's not likely though.

I think SE just contradicted itself within the game.

I mean, how can a person who was under no influence from Jenova be wrong about a failed Sephiroth Clone he created? Not likely at all, when you think about it. Hojo went on to say he brought him to life, even. He seems to remember a lot.

It's more of a mis-translation on SE's part that they've never really cleared up.

A Sephiroth clone isn't a "clone" in the real sense, but just someone who has been infused with his cells.
In the same way that the Genesis "clones" were people infused with Genesis' cells.

However, the Genesis clones actually looked like Genesis because he could imprint his physical characteristics onto them, which was why he was degrading in CC.

Sephiroth's S-cells meant that he could not transfer over his physical characteristics, which is why he cannot degrade.

So yeah, it's a misuse of the word clone on SE's part.

No fault of Hojo's.

Well, wait now. Hojo says he brought him to life;
"Jenova cells and Mako, with my knowledge and skills, have been
combined with science and nature to bring him to life."

That means Hojo DID create Cloud, which literally would make him a Sephiroth clone.

This could just be Hojo's crazy scientist talking.
He has a tendency to view everything but his research as useless, pointless, etc.

Perhaps he meant that before the experiment, Cloud was a nobody, and by experimenting on him, he was making him into someone worthwhile from a scientific point of view?

Also, we cannot forget that FFVII was translated into English directly by the Japanese development team, so their grasp on English wasn't exactly perfect.
("This guy are sick.")

So in the end, it could simply be a minor misuse of the English language causing all of this confusion.

Yeah, that's just theories, though. :hmmm: Till then, it appears that Cloud was a Sephiroth clone... which is... odd when thought of with the rest of the story.

*is confused*

I think Hojo may have actually thought he created Cloud (I use the word create loosely, more like he altered him with Jenova cells and Mako) because he created a lot of Sephiroth clones. All of the Sephiroth clones are the original villagers from Nibelheim who passed away in the fire.. they were just taken into the Shinra Mansion and experimented on, and tried to recreate another Sephiroth.

Cloud (and Zack) was one of those taken away by Hojo when he was in the Reactor. After he was shirked through the chest by the Masamune, one would only assume he would die from a wound like that. Hense the line "brought him to life" because with Jenova cells and Mako stasis, Hojo was able to breathe new life into Cloud.

But, because Zack and Cloud escaped, they never received their numbers because they weren't complete yet, moreso with Cloud who was a vegetable for a while.

To Hojo, Cloud was his creation. The man has an ego the size of Texas. All his experiments are his 'creations,' He made Cloud a Sephiroth Copy, ergo he 'made Cloud'

Cloud is not a genetic clone of Sephiroth, nor was he created 5 years ago.

Hojo turned Cloud into a Sephiroth Copy via the injection of Jenova cells 5 years ago. That is how Hojo 'Created' him.

Cloud and Zack are both 'Sephiroth Clones', but the term is not used in the same connotation as the Clones of the Clone wars, for example.
Nanaki suspected he might have been made a Sephiroth Clone as well, given he was given a number like all the known Copies were given, but it's just Hojo's labeling fetish.

Wow, Channi, you explained that perfectly. :ryan:
That actually makes perfect sense, too. Why are you so awesome? :mokken:

May I have permission to post this somewhere else? I think it's the best explination of for this so far.

Saying you brought something to life, and saying you created them are not the same thing, Hojo literally says he "Brought him to life" :dave:

Zack was experimented on, but where do you add up he was made into a Clone? Beside from the retcon'd games, lets follow on the original, yeah?

Even Sephiroth says Cloud had no name, hence having no past. He was created from Tifa's memories

Hojo
"...He's a Sephiroth-clone I created after the real Sephiroth
died five years ago."
"Jenova cells amd Mako, with my knowledge and skills, have been
combined with science and nature to bring him to life."

Sephiroth
"Ha, ha, ha...... Think, Cloud!"
"...Cloud? Ha, ha, ha...... Oh, excuse me. You never had a name."

Sephiroth
"Cloud... Don't blame Tifa."
"The ability to change one's looks, voice, and words, is the
power of Jenova."
"Inside of you, Jenova has merged with Tifa's memories, creating
you.
"

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT!

Now I'm confused about those damn quotes. Thanks, you. :mokken:

Channi, my master, please explain these quotes *cries*
