Teeeeefa or Tiiiiiifa (like Tiffany) ?

I know I went with Tifa for the longest time since I always thought her name was short for Tiffany for some strange reason. It wasn't until waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay until the AC movie that I realized I'd been pronouncing it wrong in my head all those years. D:

I've always pronounced it as Tee-fa. I never even considered any other pronunciations. To be honest, pronouncing it like it is short for 'Tiffany' sounds horrible to me. Almost as bad as Tee-dus instead of Tye-dus.

I didn't even realise there was any way to pronounce it other than Tee-Fah.
Like Sacha there, I think pronouncing it as 'Tiffany' is a bit dumb.

There's only one way to pronounce it and that is tee-fah. I think it's irrelevant that it's short for Tiffany. Dick is short for Richard, but it is pronounced dick, not rich-ard/rich-ed.

I'm pretty sure Zack said "Tee-fa" in Crisis Core when he confronted Sephiroth, and everyone else called her the same thing in Advent Children.

I thought it was always "Tee-fa" anyway. I've never thought of an alternative, and the alternative does sound naff. At worst, you could have been calling her "Tie-fa".

I've always called her Tee-Fah (which is surprising because I usually pronounce names like an idiot) but I agree with you dude about Tye-dus and Tee-dus. I remember watching the 'making of' dvd I got with X and the voice actors were saying 'Tee-Dus' and I was like "NO! I'M NOT CALLING HIM THAT D:!" It sounds so...weak compared to Tye-dus (tide...like the sea get it :D).

Tee-fa for me too.

I knew a few people who called her Tif-fa, but it didn't sound right to me. It makes her sound harsher and fiercer, like a rabid rabbit chomping on a baby's little-finger.

If Tifa was short for Tiffany I think I'd have preferred 'Tif' to Tif-fa. I don't know why, but it just sounds better if they were going to pronounce the Tif part of the name in that way.

Tifa is tough, but also caring and soft, and I felt that Tee-fa made her sound cuter. To me, Tifa was very cute and was my first imaginary fictional girlfriend.

You guys are better at pronouncing names and stuff than I am apparently. :( Funfact: I couldn't even pronounce Sephiroth the first time I played the game.

Tee-fa. I figured it was an "ee" sound over an "i" sound because it was basically "Tina" with an f instead of an n. :0

I've always thought she's called 'Tee-Fah.' I have a feeling I had heard the name before I played the game, but even so, Tiffany didn't spring to mind when I read the name and, phonetically, 'Tee-Fah' felt the most natural.

Tidus is the only FF name I have ever mispronounced...and I continue to do so because I dislike 'Tee-duss.'

I always said it like Teeeefa (like tea).

Has that been confirmed as the correct way? That's the way I always said it but I didn't know if it was that or Tye-duss.

Xx..xX

Ahaha before I saw Advent children I would pronouce it as "Tie-fa". I didn't really like the name that much anyway. I like the "Tee-fa" much better but I dot understand why they couldn't just spell it that way. -__- But yea Tiefa for me!

Tifa? I pronounce it as exactly how it looks. Tiiiiifa, not Teeefa. Not interested what the correct pronunciation is, cause when you've been playing it for years like I have and been calling them what you thought you sorta get protective over it, or at least I do..

"It's Tiiiifa and that's final, okay!" <--- Like that.

I could remember me and 2 of my friends playing it back then and we couldn't pronounce Nibelheim properly so we settled with 'Nibilibilum'. Stupid I know. :olivia:

Mind you this is going back like 9 or so years.. Good times though. /insert nostalgia face

LOL @ "Nibilibilum"

Always Tih-fah, even now. It just sounds more right to me...

I don't like the Tee-fah pronunciation...it doesn't make sense! :/
